I swear, if Chris Taylor isn't crying during "The Lonesome Waltz Of Leonard Cohen", he's pretty convincing. These two legendary bands have a lot in common, seeing as how they share members and thus minds. You can hear that pretty clearly on this split, with both sides of this record containing downtrodden, tear-soaked moments and impassioned, lively moments all the same. I'd give the nod to pageninetynine, but only barely. They sound better, but City Of Caterpillar's songwriting is a bit better as well. Of course, they'd both achieve better things, but it's nice to have a reference point to hear how close-knit these two bands were both sonically and in the scene.
