There is a Brand New thread where I've noticed a minority preferring this record over The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me; I'll probably suffer the wrath of the peoples' dust and bones, though I'm still in agreement. With Clarity, the American emo band Jimmy Eat World have constructed a genuine album that masterfully binds unyielding pop melodies which become borderline infectious with a tranquil, refined nature which just makes you want to keep jamming this offering for hours and hours. Jim Adkins is a very thoughtful frontman and the rest of JEW are luckily never behind in the skill and feeling departments. The guitar work is simply amazing even by itself and the compositions pull you under right before sending you back up - just to make your body descend once more since everything about Clarity is downright charmingly beautiful while never really being toothless, either.

Quite simply, one of the most moving and effecting albums I've heard. It's taken me a while to really appreciate why this is often considered a masterpiece and a landmark record of the 90s music scene. I love their blend of mellow, emotive tunes mixed with faster and punchy numbers. All with great lyrics and delivery. "Goodbye Sky Harbour" is also just a masterful, 16 minuted epic of a tune!

A huge step up from Static Prevails. Clarity is a wonderfully constructed record, varietous enough to hold attention but maintaining a consistent theme and flow. The production is fantastic, the strings are integrated excellently, and the performances are great (particularly Jim Adkins, who has taken over all of the lead vocal duties [besides the up-tempo "Blister"]). The record isn't all excellent-- "Goodbye Sky Harbor" goes on for way too long, "Table for Glasses" doesn't do much for me, and "Lucky Denver Mint" is mostly uninteresting-- but Clarity is nonetheless a masterful work, which I highly recommend.

The band's first foray into post-Christie Front Drive worship, and it's a pop masterpiece of sorts. The production is a bit over-the-top, but the songwriting showcases the band at their best, a level they'd never be able to recapture on a full length LP (every other LP has great songs, but also some shitty ones) as there isn't a dud on this double LP!

This was, in my opinion, JEW's major debut (sadly, I'm not a big Static Prevails fan). Each song is great, and like I said with Futures, can relate to emotions we've felt or experiences we've had at many different times in our lives. It's a masterpiece that showcases a more mature sound from Static Prevails and gives you a taste of their probably most known and loved album, Bleed American.

I'm going to be honest, It took a long time before I realised this album's true potential. It wasn't really until an inspired and intimate Leeds-Lock-Up-Stage-Festival set where I realised how incredible this record is.
Coming back to it with new energy and anticipation, now I was hearing all the amazing things people were telling me to look out for. With beautiful production and equally awe-inspiring songwriting; this has recently risen to become a total favourite as of late. There is just something amazing and romantic about every single song on this album, starting off with the more poppier, upbeat tracks of; 'Lucky Table Mint' and 'Your New Aesthetic', this album slowly and subtly get more and more deeper and expansive, including the beautiful addition of violins on tracks such as 'A Sunday', 'Just Watch the Fireworks' and of course 'Goodbye Sky Harbour'.
It is truly essential listening and an album I would recommend to virtually anyone.
