For Animal Collectivecore playful and zany psych pop, this manages to actually put (some) of its melodies in the front of its soundscape - when it doesn't, it's as obnoxious as the genre can be.

I think the highs of this album far surpass its lows (which admittedly, there are some). But O.N.E. was one of the very top songs released last year, followed closely by Ambling Alp. I think songs that are widely panned like Rome and The Children work as great mood pieces. The band members may have been way too high or something to come up with proper choruses but the songs work without them, with the former bringing a morbid sense of wonder and the latter still managing to be catchy.
