What a great guitar album m/. Seriously this is like riffs, riffs, and more riffs. Accross Forests and Fjords, Re-animaniacs, and Deathonomics are all about the guitars winding and ultimitley captivating passages. On other songs though Revocation truly show themselves to not only be talented instrumentlists but also amazing song writers such as Leviathan Awaits, Anthem of the Betrayed, Existence is Futile, and a Tragedy of Modern Ages. Hopefully in upcoming albums we will see more of this amazing guitar prowess combined with equally amazing song writing ability.
It breaks my heart to give this album a 4.0, but I have to. It's amazing, it's technical, the drums and guitar are spot on near constantly (and do I hear... jazz?), but it's not anything that's groundbreaking or completely innovative. On the flip side of that coin, I absolutely adore this album, and have listened to it near constantly since it came out. FANTASTIC work by the band, and I'm definitely interesting in what they've got in store for us next!
Catchy from the beginning because of the memorable riffs, tolerable vocals, and highly technical musicianship. Many other bands in this genre try to impress with skills (and drag on for too long) rather than with songwriting. The songs on this album are short and sweet.
