Although their overall sound has been done before, by bands like August Burns Red and Misery Signals, Texas in July takes the prog metalcore sound and twists it, makes it darker, adds some guitar solos and ultimately releases an unforgettable album.
This band is competent. All of their instruments and vocals sound good. But the actual riffs are about as uninspired as they get. The song Reflections sounds alright until it attempts to be BTBAMesque with an epic solo and it just fails because the solo notes are poorly chosen, especially on the sweeps. The solo sounds like a bad videogame soundtrack.
