The Complexity Of Light is a concept album written and performed by Children Of Nova. This extremely talented band manages to mix amazing musicality, an interesting story and catchy tracks. This band is probably one of the most talented bands I`ve seen in years. It IS too short though, but great enough to let you listen on Repeat And Shuffle for hours.
Since this is a concept album I'll show you what I know of the story behind it. *SPOILERS* .... Kinda
The story is set on a plant called 'Arcaedion'. The name of one of the six tracks on the album.
Their are two main characters, Nova and Corbin.
Nova is the leader and defender of light. One of the two main characters to be tested as leader of his world. He believes he can save the world and everyone in it by instilling hope and courage into their souls. Since childhood, he has suffered extremely lucid, vivd dreams of the future which he has used to bring the hopeless and deprived back to the light.
Corbin is the leader and defender of darkness. Born from intense reactions of energy on his home planet, he too was chosen to pursue leadership over his world. But what he craved was control. Although more powerful than his nemesis (Nova), he lacked the ability of forsight. In his experiences he found that crows on Arceadion carried small fragments of time inside them. When they gazed into his eyes he saw a piece of his life, either past, present or future. His connection to the birds was immediate and with their aid he formed his destiny; which ultimately leads to the destruction of the sun.
Corbin commands an army of followers called The Order, another one of the songs on the album.
He promises to lead them to a new star system.
Second Sight Blackout is a prophecy in which Arcaedion is destroyed and Corbin's last steps into darkness are revealed.
Another track off the album is called 'The Fall Of Aphonia'.
Aphonia is the inability to speak, so this means that people are starting to be heard. (Information on characters directly off the Children Of Nova Myspace page.)
Now onto the musical portion. Children of Nova`s `The Complexity of Light` is their first album and they are believed to be working on a sequel of some sort.
The album starts with the song `The Complexity of Light`
This song starts off with an amazing drum solo, leading into some awesome guitar riffs. The lead singer is extremely talented and hits some amaaaazingly high notes without hurting your ears. It sounds perfect. There is great harmonizing throughout the song, great use of cresendos and fades. This song ends with some epic vocals. One of my favourite songs to date. The song is a great length at 6 minutes and 37 seconds. Not for people with short attention spans though.
Now I'm not going to a review for all the songs because you should just check it out for yourself, but I will add that the band incorporated many different types of musical elements perfectly. With some screams here and there to keep it interesting. With many drum and guitar solo's, great bass lines and awesome vocals this band is just outstanding. If you're looking for mainstream music stay away. This IS a concept album and isn't meant to have love songs and the such. It's a story told from two different points of view and is quite interesting. So if you like metal, rock, alternative and so on totally check it out.
