this record really is just...pathetic. vocals suck, the music sucks, the production sucks. its not painful to listen to, but its a fucking joke. the least inspired sounding album of all time.
The musical aspect shows potential (the intro to bleeding hearts shed no tears is pretty cool and dissonant, even with alex growling) but generally the vocals are so frickin awful they ruin everything. I'm not even sure if Alex knew what "beats" or "measure" meant at this time. He is just screaming around with no sense of direction
Is this album a joke? They don't even try to play their instruments well. The lyrics are even worse. It's just a bunch of rich kids from Orange County, who have everything they could ever want, whine for half an hour about how they'd rather be dead. Listening to this album (if it can even be called that), I start to sympathize with this whole "rather be dead" concept. Everything about this album, from the terrible vocals (See chorus of "Bleeding Hearts Shed No Tears") to the confusing and ridiculous titles ["Love is Illness", "Of Gods and Monsters", or, my personal favourite, "The Dinosaurs Became Extinct (And You're a Fossil)"] is completely intolerable and downright laughable. This album is a failure in every sense of the word.
