2.0 poor | SteakByrnes | February 6th 20 | Petals aren't a very good armor choice, I recommend either Daedric or maybe even an Orcish build just for the aesthetics

3.0 good | davezillaMP3 | July 28th 20 | While I do really like the sort of 80s aesthetic being used here, some of the hooks can be rather annoying (mainly the first 4 songs), however overall it is enjoyable enough

2.5 average | Gene Gol-Jonsson CONTRIBUTOR | July 7th 20 | More far from means better. Ambition of dividing an album into a triptych is barely justified here, as each section is pretty much the same in themes and in arrangement. Moody murky musical malnutrition masquerades as abnormally ambitious artistry. But the quality mostly barely supersedes the quantity resulting in a draining and exhilarating experience.

3.0 good | SinNanna | June 8th 20 | Paramore frontwoman Hayley Williams -despite past claims about never wanting to do so- delivers a moody, personal solo effort that toes the lines between art rock, art pop and new wave with her distinct soprano vocal taking a bit of a less upbeat tone this time around. Petals For Armor overall has a sometimes danceable, sometimes more subduedly poppy sound with some more prominent bass popping up here and there as well, alternating between melodic and rhythmic basslines giving a few of these tracks a bit of an extra pulse. The choruses range mostly from decent to pretty good overall and Hayley's pengame on a lot of these songs makes them worth diving further into, as this record features a lot of personal themes detailing her struggles of working through her depression and rocky past relationship with ex-husband Chad Gilbert. Although none of the songs here to me are truly bad, a majority of them I find to not go anywhere musically that I find interesting enough despite being enjoyable and pleasant sounding on the surface, and as a result this record kind of leaves me half-fulfilled every time I finish it. I'll say that for being 55 minutes in length it doesn't quite feel as long-winded as I would expect, but there just aren't enough highlights packed in here for it to truly feel like a solid record. I think if some of these tracks where a bit more daring and expressive and didn't wear their influences on their sleeves this would've definitely been a more standout pop record for me, but as is, this is still not a bad effort to start your solo trajectory with.

2.5 average | RaylanCrowder | May 20th 20 | Far too many songs for me and not very memorable overall, except for "Dead Horses" for the wrong reasons. Alright enough to qualify as background music at best. "Simmer" is the main highlight

5.0 classic | OnlyGive5s | May 19th 20 | Beautifully poetic. You can feel the transcendence of pain that Hayley Williams overcomes on this album.

2.0 poor | grandbazaar | May 11th 20 | This sounds like pop without any real hooks and Haley's tendency to sing the title of the songs ad nauseam is grating.

4.5 superb | ajcollins15 | May 11th 20 | Haley Williams, one of the most well-known names in music today, especially the most well-known name if you had an ?emo? phase when you were younger. Well, she finally comes through with her own solo work to test the waters on what she can do for the music scene, and in my opinion, she almost nailed it. What Haley is able to produce sonically is something that very few artists today can do. Part 1 of the three-part record shows her grasping Art rock style instrumentals a-la Radiohead's ?Ok Computer? and ?In Rainbows?. Lyrically she discusses the issues of being apart of a toxically controlling relationship and what that can do to you emotionally during and the several months (or years) after you leave said relationship. Part 2 of this record sees Haley dabbling in a Talking Heads, New Order, and Primal Scream style alternative dance with lyrics about her final acceptance of what happened in that relationship and her moving on from it. Lastly, we get a fairly new style of sounds of New Wave made popular by most bands in the 80s with lyrics about the freshness of a new, non-toxic, relationship. In conclusion, she is influenced by all these sounds from past artists, but she revives them into a very fresh, fun, and sunny sound that is again something not many artists can do. My only flaw with this is the track ?Cinnamon? isn?t as fleshed out as the other tracks (especially the opening with the very winy oh-oh's).

3.0 good | Erwann S. STAFF | May 11th 20 | Basically the same as garas: it's too long and the lyrics are meh, but the basslines are cool and overall I had a good time.

3.0 good | Gary STAFF | May 10th 20 | Hey, it wasnt't half as bad as I expected. It has some pretty nice and catchy songs but there are pretty awful ones there as well. And oh my... some lyrics are soooo AWKWARD! Oh, and the nice bass lines worth some bonus points! But minus point for the overlong runtime.

2.5 average | Lucman | May 8th 20 | For the most part, this is fine, but it severely lacks colour compared to her work in Paramore. Every vocalist has to stretch out and experiment with their craft on their own at some point, but paired with the unexciting sound and unapproachable layout, it's difficult to be invested with what she's doing.
