2.0 poor | bobafe6604 | August 25th 08 | Sadly, Walls of Jericho do not enthrall me. In fact, there is little material on "The American Dream" that does much of anything for me; although the instrumentation is solid and the genre blend (punk, hardcore, thrash, etc.) does its thing; all in all "The American Dream" is just another ho hum by-the-numbers metal album. My main problem (*bracing for the flak I will receive yet again) lies in the vocals. Yes, the screams are produced by female vocal chords, but that doesn't giver her any special attention in my book (If you ask me, Opeth's scream is haunting and genuinely frightening). Candace just has the wrong idea here: she sounds more manly than most men screamers. Her guttural delivery is not without technique, but completely without any sort of range. This leads her to be placed in the bin of screamers that just don't rub me the right way: those who can't sing nor bring something new/exciting to the table. Besides solid drum work and some very nice guitar licks (can't forget the inaudible and thus uncredited bassist!), "The American Dream" is a been-there-done-that retread. Skip it.
