This is a great ominous, haunting album. There's a certain tone or feel present throughout the album that ties together each song and the story the album tells as a whole. The story, laid out on the band's website, is very interesting and adds a nice twist to the music. The songs are unique and very well crafted. The prominence of the cello and piano is beautiful throughout the album. I would rate this CD a classic except that the second half is a little lacking when compared to the first half. This album makes for excellent driving music as well.

I'm a little biased probably, because this is a concept/storytelling album with themes that I'm interested in. But geez, the Devil visiting the wild west to ruin a little town? That's a nice story. And the cello parts that MbD is known for suit this amazingly well. The tracks sound a little somber thanks to it, along with the piano and the calm guitars. It was a great album where you could imagine the story throughout the tracks. I want more albums like this. FAV TRACKS: The Desert's on Fire, Devil in Mexico

Who Will Survive And What Will Be Left Of Them? is truly a gem in the indie world. Sounding like nothing I've ever heard before and maintaining that sound throughout an entire album is a very hard task, but Murder By Death are up to it with their country horror movie style. Some songs are absolutely beautiful, while others are relentless and attacking. This album is excellent in every way.
