This record just misses the delicate melodies of their previous records. The album is overall good, but nowhere better than that because of the kind of monotone, soft songs. For people new to the Notwist I'd recommend 'Neon Golden' or 'Shrink'.
Although The Notwist's Markus Acher sings each track on 'The Devil, You and Me' in what amounts to a dry and haunting monotone, the subtle and deliberate variations in melody and rhythm nevertheless create a stunning low-fi indie pop album. Check out the surprisingly catchy, albeit somewhat restrained 'Boneless' and 'Good Lies.' For fans of Pinback, Say Hi to Your Mom, and M83.
