When it's good, it's perfect. When it's off, it's really dull. The melodic moments are where the band shines but I feel like there could be a bit more variation. That weird, slow, almost death metal track was a strange decision -- what is it doing there? Still, the good parts are good enough to overshadow any negatives and make this a favorite for me.
Nyktalgia manages to create one of the greatest and most atmospheric black metal albums in years. One of the things that really stand out is the guitars. They're more melodic than regular BM, yet they never goes anywhere near Cradle Of Filth territory. In any way. The four tracks each have their own distinctive sound even though the basics are the same all the way through. All in all a fantastic album.
