The only sub-par entry in the Built to Spill catalogue, Ancient Melodies of the Future seems to lack what makes all their other albums so enjoyable; the songs just aren't quite as epic, catchy or memorable. There are some bright spots however in 'Strange', 'You Are' and 'The Weather'. Not a terrible album, just average especially for the band's standards.
