The first few months I had this album I liked listening to it, because the songs are short and catchy. However,
now, a few months later, I have no desire to ever listen to it again. These songs aren't bad, but they don't
have any reason to exist. The only people who ever liked this album were people who actively wanted to like
it because they were fans of the band.
After their 2004 release, "Around the Sun" met a cool response from critics and fans, their latest effort has marked a blistering return to form for R.E.M. "Accelerate" comes storming out of the gates with a loud and ultra fast paced rocker "Living Well is the Best Revenge" that immediately sets a sit down, shut up, and strap on your seat belts tone. Like with most albums, there are some missteps such as the annoying "I'm Gonna DJ" but the vast majority of the songs presented are great listens and are some of the best music out this year.
This album just shows for me what R.E.M were in the mid to late 80s, they were fun yet serious rockers who produced good music, & for the first time in the 21st Century they have produced something brilliant. Some songs are rock songs like Man Sized Wreath & Supernatural Superserious, and some are spellbinding melodic calmers like Until The Day Is Done & Sing For The Submarine. I say congrats to R.E.M for making a First Class Album again
