Zeltron is pissed. With its distorted production that guarantees its RYM "trap metal" tag, 13 is Curry's most pissed-the-fuck-off release - acting more as an escapism than a true artistic statement. It doesn't always work - "Heartless" - but when it does - "Zeltron 6 Billion" -, phwoar boi.

Strong EP, with 1 and 2 both being jams with interesting prod - although 1 is superior. 3 is nice and hits hard, and 5 is a cool track. 4 feels like it comes out of nowhere to ruin the record, compiling all the bad traits of Imperial in one track and bringing the record down a couple points. Still a 3.75

As a whole, the EP doesn't appear to be fully developed. That's not too bad though, as it
mostly seems to serve as a teaser for a coming full length. As such, 13 succeeds completely.
Everything, from the production to Denzel's incredible flow, is a step up from the already
great Imperial. Now, I couldn't be more excited for Taboo.

Denzel Curry has all but established himself as one of Florida's most exciting hip-hop artists and one of the most naturally talented rappers in the game today. It's because of stuff like 13; great flows, killer hooks, banging production, vivid lyrics, and clever wordplay are all on display when Denzel takes the microphone. The production here is more abrasive than anything else in his discography, though it does get let up somewhat on closer "Zeltron 6 Billion", which has of all things a Lil Ugly Mane feature, which naturally means it's great. Opener "Bloodshed" is perhaps the true highlight here, with all of the aforementioned qualities firing on all cylinders to make an anthem for the ultimate. If the rumors are to be believed and he releases Taboo later this year, it could possibly be his finest work yet, if 13 is anything to go off of.
