First of all, this is not your typical album. It's one song that is almost one and a quarter hours long. Immediately all hope of this album ever being accepted into the mainstream or played on the radio is smashed. So, what's left? Well, this album is intended to be the audio equivalent of surgery without anaesthesia- an interesting idea. This record is like a combination of ambiance, metal, noise music, and many other genres. Patton doesn't "sing" in the traditional sense- there are no lyrics to be found here, but rather moans of pain, humming, yelps, and freak outs. The other instruments aren't as upfront as they are on the other Fantomas albums, with the exception of maybe the drums (at 30:30 there is a drum solo). The big problem with this album is replayability. I rarely find myself coming back to it, partly due to the length, and partly because of the weirdness of it. Also, the fact that the final nineteen minutes are the same repetitive tracking noise over and over again is minorly annoying. This is really unlike anything you'll ever hear, both in good and bad ways.

This is definitely not the record for a spin whenever. It's a 74 minute "song" - a musical journey, likened to having surgery without anesthesia - a fitting description. It's not really "music" - random blurps of sounds (medical tools clanking, screaming, clocks), percussion (an effective drum solo at 30:30), and ambience find their way into the record more so than the guitar or bass. There is also a lack of "singing" as it's more of Patton making percussion noises with his mouth, or other sounds. Some might say this is terrible, and shouldn't be considered music, but it's a work of a genius (albeit a very crazy one). It's hard to pin a rating, as there's never really been something like this before. It's a work of art, definitely, and something like this will definitely live on as a cult favorite.

Wow, what an album! I've never seen an album that use that kind of concept, a kind of real interaction with the listener...always by my point of view and what i know about music now. This is an aventure, like an horror movie. You are trow into this spooky ambiance and it grow on you..slowly but certainly if you really take attention to it by just relaxing and listening. Be relax...there are about 20 minute of nothing: the time for you to sleep an make an horrible nightmare caused by the ambience. You felt asleep then....1,2,3,4! Get up, the cd is over. Awesome.
