Vanilla Ice has been slammed for a series of bad decisions and poor musical endeavors forced on him by his record label. Eventually, he went indie and produced a couple albums that were actually...good.
The first thing you will notice is that "Hard to Swallow" is VERY different from Ice's earlier works. Namely, the music isn't the pop he had formally performed. Gone are the samples and beats, and in their place is a sonic transformation courtesy of Ross Robinson.
"Hard to Swallow" is a very good rap-metal effort. Not a classic by any means, but certainly a lot better than it has been rated here. Coolest track here is "Too Cold", a rock remake of "Ice, Ice Baby" that is way better than the original.
Check it out.
Never thought I'd listen to Vanilla Ice. Although Nu Metal is a fairly hated genre of metal, I do enjoy listening to it, and this is pretty darned good as an album. I won't buy any of the other stuff he's made (maybe Bi-polar) but this is a very good album.
Awesome album, tons of fun to blast in the car with. I found this today and wow it's great. It's simply good ole' nu-metal fun, nothing groundbreaking or amazing, but more so for chilling and saying "fuck yes."
