Foundationally this album is very interesting but it has a tendency to lead itself astray midst seas of passages, which sometimes steals focus from substantial songwriting. It keeps changing its mind when progressing from passage to passage and loses itself in what sometimes feels like a mess of passages that although not necessarily disjointed, maybe just a bit unfocused. On paper, Hybris' formula reads like a dream but when brought into practice it kinda falls a bit on its back. Very nice musicianship, individual passages and impressively diligent use of many instruments though somewhat negligently assembled and sometimes it feels as if the songs never quite lead anywhere.
My friend who listen's to alot of Prog. gave me this cd out of the blue saying it was "one of his favorite 5 cd's". I didn't know what to expect but was pleasantly surprised. It's not my favorite kind of music but I enjoyed it very much.
