Fucking hell, this album is absolutely insane. Some of the most intense drumming you will ever hear. Hold Your Horse Is is a relentless album from start to finish. The best math rock album I've heard in my opinion. To put it simply, this album is has no ups and downs, light and shade or slow and fast - It's just an overwhelming, non-stop shred-fest of crazy drums chops and hyper guitar licks.
strange clanks and crashes form beautiful peaks and valleys and it's all amazingly unpretentious. it's a seriously silly burst of childlike energy with grown-up musicianship, and that's where the art is.
I can't dispute the technical proficiency Hella displays, they're amazing. However, it's so complex and there's so much going on that it gets hard to listen to. They approach catchiness and accessibility here on a few tracks (1-800-GHOST-DANCE). As it is though, only those who appreciate how difficult this music is will like it.
