| 4.5 superb | IkhabaatCrane | October 7th 09 | What can you say. Rollins and Mother Superior deliver a record with a fresh sound.
The lyrics are bread-n-butter Rollins: "Hello, darkness, pain, memories, shame... all the
time wasted... sin, pity and blame," with his great sense of humour "it's better to give
than receive, what a lie, you'd rather sleep late, never work and get high."
The music on the other hand features the upbeat boogie of Let That Devil Out and funky Up
For It, which add diversity to the heavier moments like Hangin' Around, We Walk Alone or the
sludge of Going Out Strange.
There's undeniable chemistry here between Rollins and his band, possibly unheard since
1994's Weight, which is what maintains a cohesive sound for such a diverse record.
But make no mistake. This is heavy, grooving, ballsy rock 'n roll.
