Today, when I was browsing the used section of FYE with my 6 dollars, I didn't expect to find anything affordable for me at the time. I looked through nearly the whole section when I got to "Y" and found Neil Young's "Sleeps With Angels" for $4.99. I knew nothing about the album, but being big fan of Neil, figured it couldn't hurt since it was only 5 dollars. When I got home and put this in my CD player, I was thrown off by how melancholy this album is. At first, I almost regretted buying it, but I continued to play this in its entirety and by the end I was in near awe. Neil's lyrics coupled with his piano playing create a much darker feel than most of his work, one that by far exceeded my expectations of this album. "Sleeps With Angels" is one of Neil Young's most overlooked releases, and continues to show us why so many people have fallen in love with his music.
Most be Youngs most underrated album. The 3 last tunes is not that great (medium). But the rest of album is very, very, very strong. And then a rare thing: On this album Young both sound like him self and contemporary (album from 1994). Young was contemporary in the 70s. But doing the 80s and 90s he sound dated (of cause almost old legends sound dated the newer the material are). But not on this album. It have a very alt. rock/grunge sound to it that really fit the album.rAnd leaving the last 3 songs for them selves, then the rest of the album have great songes on it.
