Emmure wrote a a pretty good record here. It's a fun, heavy record that really cashes in on the breakdown, but if you like breakdowns they won't disappoint. This review was way too biased, though. It really didn't give you a good feel for the record at all. Lyrics aren't amazing, but enjoyable in a weird sort of way. The problem with some of the comments, in my opinion, is people are too quick to defend "their" band and not look into the positive qualities of other bands. I try to be as diverse as I can with my metal and hardcore because then you really can look at albums objectively and accurately. I'd like to think that everyone who has posted enjoys at least one of the bands I listen to regularly. Bands like Emmure, All That Remains, Every Time I Die, The Devil Wears Prada, Misery Signals, Between The Buried And Me, Comeback Kid, Iced Earth, Pantera and Hatebreed are just some of the varied bands I listen to. Instead of looking at these bands as just one genre I look at them all individually because each are different and people should start doing that instead of being close-minded to anything different. I'm not saying everyone should embrace screaming heavy music, but if you do listen to heavy music you should remain as open as possible because most of the time bands aren't going to sound the same record to record.

It's been done over nine-thousand times before. I am so sick of bands trying their hardest to be, "BRUTAL," and then constantly throwing in breakdowns. I'm so sick of the robotic sounding fake growls. What ever happened to death metal sounding dirty and disgusting? Screw this shit.

how could you say that emmure is the shittiest of hardcore metal bands?...they are definetly head and shoulders above any hardcore/metal band that i have ever heard, they are not just a misery signals ripoff, cause misery signals suck!

Ah yes, Another Victory Records release! Everyone and their dog knows that Victory Records has been known for a while to release some of the most generic and boring albums in the past three or four years, Endwell comes to mind as a silverstein copycat, their seemed to be no hope for victory records to regain what they once had with Earth Crisis and between the buried and me. Then out of no where comes Emmure,with their debut Album "Say Goodbye to the Gallows" which victory records is stupidly proclaiming their debut album as the "the heaviest Album of 2007" not hardly, but its pretty damn heavy. Emmure is a band that play melodic metalcore, they sound almost like The Acacia Strain, only The Acacia Strain never added the melodic part to their band. they play the typical chug-chug riff''s and have a insane amount of breakdowns in almost all of their songs (except the 2:00 atmospheric "travis bickle") you may wonder why its a good album. While the music is not really different then youd hear from Misery Signals or The Acacia Strain, what really got me to like this band was the vocalist, he does the typical hardcore growling but then lets out some pretty damn good shrieks that almost give a death metal feel to the Album, his vocals fit perfectly for the music. "10 Siigns you should leave" is one of my favorite tracks on the album, it starts out with a pretty intense breakdown in the guitar and some pretty simple drumwork, then the vocals come in. "you know its all a game, that we play back and forth. I Leave, you chase and its back to square one!" lyrics arent the most impressive, typical relationship problems. but overall in my opinion this is a solid debut from Emmure and maybe victory records is finally getting the point that people dont really like their mainstream garbage theyve been putting out Recently.

Let me remind all of you that I hate Frankie's guts with all my burning passion; his ego grew tenfold ever since the Lionetti brothers' departures. However, Emmure's first full-length album, Goodbye to the Gallows, is perhaps the band's only effort in which emotions - aside from anger or superiority - were ever mustered up. While the record is mostly devoid of creativity and chock full of laughable breakdowns, there are times where the songwriting goes up a few notches; this is especially evident in "Rusted Over Wet Dreams" and "Sleeping Princess in Devil's Castle".

I remember buying this for my then-girlfriend on her birthday 2 years ago, because i knew she loved bands like Emmure and Whitechapel. I wound up listening to it myself on a particularly stoned evening thinking i picked it up for myself but didnt open it yet. It was pretty good

The whole album is one big breakdown. There's really no other way to describe it. The vocals are awful beyond belief and the riffs are extremely bland, simply stunning how such a band could get signed and recognized. What's scary is that people consider this Emmure's best effort. Wow

Ok, you know what? This album is alot of fun, flawed, but fun. Ok, bad is, way to much breakdown focus, and
sometimes I gets to feel overdone, but then when it nears being to much, then its gets to the good stuff, the
breakdowns are alot off fun, and this album just...makes me wanna dance, or something, the vocal work on
this album are fucking amzing, the lyrics are so-so, but worth it, very worth it for fans of heavy music. If you
are sick of breakdowns though, avoid.

I'm a bit of a breakdown junkie, so naturally Emmure are a band i enjoy. GTTG is one of my favorite CDs primarily because the lyrics are decent throughout the album, spiking at a couple particular tracks to amazing, but also because it's one of the first CDs of the genre which I really had a strong feeling about in a positive manner, so it kinda sticks with me.

There's a lot of good stuff here. Yes there are breakdowns and plenty of them, but I think it's here where it actually helps out with the intensity of the music. Frankie is a capable vocalist, from screamo based spoken vocals, metalcore growls, and deathcore high-based screams, however his lyrics are near atrocious (see "10 Signs You Should Leave").

This is one of the greatest hardcore albums of all time. I have read reviews from many people bitching one long breakdown. You must have liked it or you wouldn't have finished the entire thing. Track 8 is the best. Listen to and enjoy while dancing in your seat.

I definatley dont think its the most brutal album of anything ha. But i did enjoy it and some songs are quite catchy. The downtuning may make them hit harder, but other then breakdowns, it pretty much makes everything sound like shit. And to say they are "deathcore" may be a bit of a stretch but i cant classify them as anything else, sadly :O

This is a fantastic album I must say. They aren't MMetalcore, and they don't sound like In Flames or something like that. They are Emo for the death-metaller and vice versa. They force it a little on the Drop-B, but that's it. They are a great bunch of musicians, but they seem a little shy, because there is no need for a 2 minute track of someone walking through foliage at night. But otherwise, Deatmo perfection.

This is one of my favorite metal albums. Every track has something great to deliver. Heavy chugging guitars, deep grouchy vocals, heart-pounding drums. The music is definately not where the album suffers. Sometimes the structure of the songs would seem a bit weird and I thought it could of been done better. The breakdowns are definitely not a disappointment. I have been listening to this album since I have gotten it and I still love it.

If your in the mood for earthshattering breakdowns and satisfyingly processed heavy screams, this album is the be all-end-all. Just dont expect anything revolutionary, or even relevant to, well, anything in general other than to satisfy your immediate need to listen to something "holy shit" heavy.
