Upon first listen I was disappointed but after a few listens Ruining lives improves somewhat though its not as good as Carved into stone and sounds a bit rushed. The bass seems strangely low in the mix and I would have liked to hear a return of a few industrial noises/samples. Highlight 'Windows shut' would make a great choice for a single, a superb companion piece to 'Revenge...best served cold' from the previous album.
Being quite similar to the previous release Carved Into Stone in terms of songwriting and overall feeling, Ruining Lives turned out to be another powerful and energetic Prong album. Of course not a classic as Cleansing or Rude Awakening but still very enjoyable. Absence of Light is absolute killer, my personal fav on here!
This is good, but Prong have lost the intensity that made their first handful of albums so awesome. They've dropped the industrial influences and the riffs have loosened up considerably. To me, there's almost a catchy, mainstream, punk influence in the sound. This is definitely their most instant album and their most accessible -- for whatever that may be worth.
