Songs In The Key Of Life is probably the single greatest response to the statement 'All double albums suck'. While most of them do, it's almost incomprehensible that anyone wouldn't like this record. There's fusion instrumentals ("Contusion"), nods to jazz ("Sir Duke"), superior originals of songs that would later become major commercial hip-hop blockbusters ("Pastime Paradise" and "I Wish"), windswept balladry ("Knocks Me Off My Feet"), sheer joy ("Isn't She Lovely"), socio-politics ("Black Man"), skyscraping, cosmopolitan soul ("As"), even new-age fixations and attempts to sing in Spanish. Rather than being an album with enough classic material to make an even better single disc, this is a record with so much classic material you couldn't possibly get it all on one disc, lest you lose something vital. A masterpiece in every sense.

Stevie Wonder is the only artist that can get me interested in songs with titles like "Love's in Need of Love Today" and "Have a Talk with God." I love this album and I have since I first heard it. "Isn't She Lovely" is lame, sure, but just skip it! It'll be the only song you skip. "Sir Duke," "I Wish," "Knocks Me Off My Feet," "As" ... this one is full of highlights.

There's really not much that hasn't already been said about Stevie Wonder. The man is a legend, a lyrical genius, and a musical master. His soulful tunes have inspired and gained the respect of several generations. Songs in the Key of Life represents what could be considered near the height of his abilities. Songs such as "Isn't She Lovely?" are touching, emotion-packed expressions of true musicianship. I highly recommend anyone who's in need of some inspiration or just some wonderful music to listen to, check out Stevie. This album in particular.
