Los Campesinos! stake their claim in one of the best years of music in recent memory with the long awaited follow-up to the shaky Hello Sadness. The most interesting thing about No Blues is that so very many of the silly idiosyncrasies that have become hallmarks in the Los Campesinos! brand of punk-fueled college indie pop have been stripped, and what we're left with is a pure, heavy pop rock behemoth tuned just right in atmosphere by the production of John Goodmanson, set on pink fire by a pounding rhythm section and given a soul by uplifting melodies and vocals from the always spirited Gareth David. Most important to note is that beyond the highlight of yet another of Gareth's unstoppably infectious hook-tsunamis is inspired, flowing songwriting that holds No Blues together as one of the most cohesive works of the Los Campesinos! discography.
