Outkast take their highly original sound and borrow bits from Funkadelic and Dr. Octagon to create some of the first groundwork for 21st century hip-hop - it's not hard to hear the influence this had on Kanye/The College Dropout. Equal parts raunchy, psychedelic, intelligent, catchy and complicated; it's a blast in the car or on headphones. It's full to the brim with material which is a slight flaw but mostly its charm - the filler moments don't go unnoticed but the amount of awesome packed into this album easily make the hits outweigh the misses.

This one is a current faveourite album of mine. I must say rediscovering their makes me realise how special Outkast are. A hip-hop group with an appeal and ambition beyond any pop group, let alone rap group of their day, things like that are very rare in the it-is-cool-to-bash-pop-music world we have. Anyway, while the 2 songs I was familiar with ('Ms Jackson' and 'B.O.B' of course) are absolutely fantastic, I am slightly dissapointed that the remaining 14 songs aren't quite as ber-brilliant as them, but none are bad (except maybe for 'Hoez') and plenty of songs like 'Humble Mumble' 'Gasoline Dreams' and 'Gangsta Shit' come close to those two crowning acheivements.

'Stankonia' is a beacon for all artists -- this is how you make an album. 'B.O.B.', 'Ms. Jackson'. 'So Fresh, So Clean', 'Gasoline Dreams', 'I'll Call Before I Come', are brilliant, OutKast are miles beyond their competition. The world's best MC's -- Andre 3000(then), and Big Boi(now), prove their worth with an opus of southern rap. Stankonia, everyone should be so lucky to visit.
