Bizarre and unique. Definitely not without its flaws, but overall impression is that it's a shining gem within the genre with several of its strengths outshining most contemporaries. Some really good riffs here, and amazing drumming. I honestly can see why some people think it's incredibly overrated, and why some people think it's one of the best DM releases of all time. For me, I really like this album.

Like a good piece of art, Elvenefris leaves you puzzled upon your first encounter and keeps you coming back to contemplate and analyze its meaning. An intense, spiritual experience--this album is so perfectly dense that it gets better with subsequent listens. Even the outro instrumental, while a tad long, gives you time to reflect and meditate after the intensity of the vocals and riffs have washed over you.
Don't expect to like it on the first listen! It took me several play-through's to really absorb the tasteful song structures, incredible drum fills, unorthodox lyrics, and emotive melodies. It's technical enough to keep your mind occupied, but simple enough to remain memorable and that's what makes it such a rewarding listen.

One of the most unique Death Metal albums that I ever had the pleasure to listen to. A perfect mix of atmosphere and absolute face smashing brutality. Other than the snare from St. Anger making an unwanted guest appearance and the house music like beat at the end of "On The Way Home", Elvenefris is an outstanding album.

Lykathea Aflame a.k.a. Crackpeth (Opeth on crack) have created a very unique album in "Elvenefris". It may not be flawless, but it's a very interesting listen nevertheless.
