I can see this being a grower. Although it is not entirely my cup of tea musically it has some great fusion moments e.g. Keep It Greasey, Packard Goose and Fembot. rIt is also incredibly long, and I cannot help but feel like much of it could be left off. Still, the story deserves more listens, and I will comply.

Listening to the first act of Joe's Garage was a disappointment - most of the songs are even more of what Zappa has been putting out throughout all of the seventies, that is lame "satires" on groupies etc. The second act, however, while still somewhat weak conceptually, contains some of Zappa's finest instrumental workouts (especially "Keep It Greasy" - unbelievable!), and the third act, while technically less impressive, is just pure beauty: an emotional (!) record from Zappa! The "Watermelon..." guitar solo is so sensitive it could have been played by Gilmour, and "A Little Green Rosetta", with its abstract lyrics and simplistic backing track just screams "... but the music's so beautiful!" after all the nightmares Joe had been put through. Read Act's I summary, give Act II a chance if you're a fan of technical prowess and enjoy Act III - hard!!

Frank Zappa has far too much material for me to follow, but if there's one album of his I'd most highly recommend, it'd be 'Joe's Garage'. The album combines a very humorous, yet serious social commentary with some of Zappa's most memorable songs. There's too many great songs to mention in this short blurb, but it, like many of my other top albums, is an album that needs to be listened to in its entirety.
