It has been a long time since Jason Newsted has been anywhere on the metal map since he left
Metallica. This EP was good but not great. It is what it is and he definitely shows some
of his old influences on this EP: they are mostly Black Sabbath, Motorhead, and yes,
Metallica. I definitely am interested to see what he comes out next with his new band. It
is definitely good to see him back on the map with this EP.
A pretty cool way to start off the year. I am glad this has been getting a lot of press. Newsted has been largely ignored since he and Metallica split ways 9 years ago. "Godsnake" is a bit on the weak side, but the other tracks are total jamz. If a full length comes out later this year, hopefully it will carry on the momentum of this release.
A throw back to 80's thrash and metal in general, Newsted's Metal EP boasts four tracks in 20 minutes and is just that; Metal up your ass. It suffers from the occasional missteps with poor riffs or bland drumming but overall, the album largely succeeds in being a fun ride with great vibes and is a nice indication of the future for the trio.
