So it all comes out now - the reason The Tipping Point was so mediocre is because it was a contract filler for a label they hated. Now they're being backed by Jay-Z, a man smart enough to give them free reign to do what they like. And lo, The Roots suddenly have a point to prove. And prove it they do. This might just be the finest Roots album yet - a cohesive, powerful, forward-thinking record that displays in full, for perhaps the first time, the potential force that a 'rock' band this gifted playing hip-hop could be, because this is the first record on which they're unrestrained by the pressures of label expectation. The Public Enemy-quoting "False Media", "Atonement", "In The Music", and "Babies" are all stunning. At times, the songs flow together so well that you're almost reminded of the first 20 minutes of Dark Side Of The Moon. Another record like this and their status as one of the top 10 hip-hop acts of all time will be unquestionable.

This is an amazing smooth and nostalgic cd. I has been a while since I have listened to this band and after hearing this album I am amazed by the progress this band has made. One of the few Cds you can listen the whole way through. A++

Far and away the best hip hop album of 2006, and definitely the most consistent album The Roots have ever made. The album circles and ranges through different sounds and emotions, and Black Thought has come through sounding like he's a young buck still hungry and not ready to throw the towel in.
Only reason why it doesn't get a 5 is Atonment should have been the last track... Can't Stop This, while an okay tribute to J Dilla, goes on way too long, and doesn't fit with the rest of the album.

This is one of my favourite hip hop releases, this is their most consistant album, with danceable tracks throughout. This is a must for anybody who is the slightest roots fan. My favourite tracks being long time & don't feel right.
