The Human Abstract is a mixed bag. From a technical standpoint, the band is quite impressive. But once you really listen you notice that the massive amount of shred on this album more or less serves as a mask to lacklustre songwriting. Plus, I'd trade in a few arpeggios here and there for a semi-decent singer. It's a good album, no doubt about it, it's just not all it could be. 2 Bumps | Bump

These guys are much more than just a metalcore band. Sure, there's breakdowns and the typical catchy chorus, but these guys incorporate many genres besides just your typical metalcore band. Combining technical extreme metal, classical guitars, neo-classical arpeggio sweeping with an almost poppy chorus, this album can almost seem like too much. This album is nothing special in the now vast world of metalcore but there are some jems to be found on here. If you are a fan of BTBAM or The Misery Signals you might enjoy these guys. Bump

When compared to all the other great vocalists out there, Nathan does stand out much. However, all the instruments in this album are quite well done. The guitars, my favorite part, were superb and the drums left me dumbfounded. Bump

This is metalcore for alternative rockers. Honestly, as I look back at myself and this record, this was what got me hooked on metal. Although their new direction is naive and ill-informed, this album is epic, catchy, and interesting, especially for a major myspace band. If you're coming from deathcore, it simply won't have the same effect. Appreciate it for what it is, rather than hating it for what it isn't. Bump

I remember when I first heard "Crossing the Rubicon". I didn't really like it, with all the tempo changes, and with the vocals all over the place. But I bought the album actually last year and it's one of my favorite albums. Yes, there's a lot of arpeggios and sweep picking, but I really enjoy that in this album. The vocals are nice, sure they can get nasally and throaty, but it works for this album. It gets melodic, heavy, and then soft, and it just works. The only part that I can say is boring, is how the guitars always do something fancy, and it seems like it's just to keep the song going, when it should be ending. And the vocals can get irritating, but nowhere near as irriating as on their new album Midheaven. All in all, a great start. Bump

while it is a fun listen. Nocturne lacks in areas where acts such as BTBAM, PTH, and Opeth all succeed in. also the amount of sweeping makes me grateful for songs like Selkies where they are used appropriately, and not overused. Bump
