Ugh, most of you that gave this below a 2 probably listened to about 15-30 seconds, and turned it off. What is so bad about them anyway? I admit that when I first heard their CD, I didn't like them that much. But after a few listens, they really grew on me. The screams are fine on this album. The deep, low screams sound right at home in a heavy metal release, and the high ones keep you interested, so it isn't monotone... Surprisingly, there are a couple good breakdowns on this release, such as the one around the 2:10 mark (or so, cant remember exactly) of Pathetic, Ordinary. All in all, this band has some great potential, as long as the mainstream media doesn't influence them to change their ways, to make them more 'accessible'. Their lyrics are good on some songs, but others do need a bit of work, I admit.

I admit to having "Ambrosia" on my MP3 player during a point in my life just for how addicting the chorus was. Looking back at On Frail Wings of Vanity and Wax's already made me realize just how much of a cliche storm the entire album truly is. North Carolina-based rock band Alesana incorporate classical elements into their emo-tinged post-hardcore style, which basically makes them out to be a carbon copy of Chiodos except remove the keyboard sections and add in the melancholic piano. None of the songs on this record do much of anything to grab one's attention barring the aforementioned second track and "The Third Temptation of Paris", and the vocal interplay between Dennis Lee and Shawn Milke could've been handled better by a dozen other tag teams.

If you asked me when I was 13 how I felt about this album, I would have been incoherent, obnoxious and defensive of it's flaws. It's a good album, but seeing what these guys can do years later really shows you the things they were doing wrong in this album, that they've corrected down the road.

I find this band very mediocre, mostly because i dislike the singing. Some of the songs are great while other feels very generic. But even the great songs gets very boring after a while.

I really enjoyed this album. Alesana is the only screamo band I've ever liked and, honestly, I'm not quite sure what sets them apart from the other bands in their genre. Perhaps it's the fact that I've never heard a band so blatantly over-the-top and so unapologetically stereotypical. Whatever it is, I love this album.

Okay there are worst bands...like Paramore, and Boys like Girls. When I hear Alesana's singing thats what comes to mind, the screaming....good lord please shoot me. I think he just screams and hopes for a good sound to come out.
This band really does try way too hard to be emo. Yes, I've seen them live, they all come on in all black with eyeliner on. Take the eyeliner off and stop crying about the girl that dumped you in the 3rd grade. Nobody cares. I'm from NC so I've had my share of Alesana and I will tell you this now. We do not support this shit of a band.
Actually I retract that last statement, the scenesters and emo kids gobble Alesana up. The rest of us who know good music throw this garbage in the trash along with Paramore.

ill admit that i was annoyed at the sound produced when i first heard it. i thought the singing was too whiney, and the screams were hard too understand, but after awhile, they grew on me. altough the lyrics are a bit repetitive, the melodies mix with break downs makes for a great first album. best song (despite the emo beggining) is "congratulations i hate you". anyone that claims to hate alesana needs to listen to the full album before judging them.
