3.0 good | Rudy K. EMERITUS | September 20th 12 | Exceedingly pretty but it seems each Stars album has less songs that latch onto you than the one before. Here, there's "Progress," "Do You Want To Die Together," and a whole mess of frosty ballads between Amy Millan and Torquil Campbell that sound pristine yet strangely airy and insubstantial.

I think it's because the vocalists with their lazy '80s throwback vocal styling sound so uninterested but still, most of the songs have such great sounds that I'll probably come back for more listening. I feel the band could benefit in trying to achieve more charisma with their music because their albums feel like a beautiful flat-line for me.

0.0 | Sowing STAFF | September 6th 12 | Stars have always been a band that I admired for their song crafting abilities and soaring melodies. However, they are also a band that can't seem to get out of their own way. The North is rather homogenous, flowing smoothly and freely but also forgettably. Basically, it is another Stars album.
