With a doom edge, this hardcore band really puts a through bullets through your ears with this stunning and heavy release. The drawn out guitars and heavy drumming (and heavy EVERYTHING), Xibalba is a force to be reckoned. They show that they may be a slave only to their own redundant sound, but are otherwise very creative and enjoyable.
First listen is a 3. Some of the riffs are fucking awesome and they blend many different influences really well. The production's crazy good as well. My only problem with it is the length. 55 minutes is too long, especially for a hardcore album. With a lot of the tracks running over 5 minutes, even up to 8 minutes, it makes it difficult to keep concentration. An improvement over their debut, but still has many flaws.
This band gets a lot of hype and I don't really get it I guess. This album has a few stand out moments but its quite boring as well. Its good for when you just want something heavy, even though there are still many far better options to choose from.
WTF guys ?! This album is awesome ! The production is just one of the best I've ever heard on CD and it's a perfect blend of death metal, sludge and hardcore. In comparison to this, any All Out War album is a My Little Pony episode !
