Words cannot describe how intense this album is. From the fuzzy power chords that open 'The Stench of Burning Death' to the closing "Fuck!" of the title track, this album never lets up its chaotic assault on the senses. This album is a milestone in Extreme Music, and has been cited as a huge influence by legends such as Napalm Death, Carcass and Entombed. And make no mistake, this album is fucking fast.
Often regarded as the first grindcore album (recorded a few months before the A-side of Scum), Horrified shows off thrashy riffs and leads at every possible opportunity. The production is terrible; a good deal worse than Scum, which suffered from its own host of production issues. For the most part, this LP is much more about the influence than the quality, but hyperfast blasts like Six Feet Under and Maggots in Your Coffin prove that Horrified is well worth a listen for any fan of grindcore.
While this album influenced many bands and had a great impact for the time it was released in, there is still not much to it. There is little to no variation between songs. Despite the negatives, this album still accomplished the goal of having consistent speed and high intensity.
An album that was so classic the band couldn't create another one. The album is especially original, and to date is still as fast and brutal. However the band is not credited enough, and when I saw them in concert with carcass people weren't responsive to it, which is a shame.
