  • osmark86 I get what you mean mate. personally I really dig the more psychedelic tendencies of FlyLo et al but I suppose, as you say, it's down to personal preference. any new electronic stuff you care to recommend? (seeing as we're both big fans of the genre)
    April 15 02:59 AM

  • Betray Thanks a lot for the feedback on the review. I fixed it up a bit. That sudden switch to first person... *shudders*.Stare at a draft of anything long enough and you won't notice it, though.
    March 13 11:24 PM
  • Deviant. Never used that term before. Regardless of who they're affiliated with and who likes them, people can still make bad songs
    March 10 06:49 PM
  • Deviant. Lol, is that what they call themselves or what you call them?
    March 10 09:06 AM
  • Deviant. Well that was horrible

    March 5 09:39 PM
  • osmark86 yeah they're both legit. been spinning that lapalux album a lot lately, and it's p not a 4 which I gave it (some tracks are pure brilliance whereas others are a little to jagged and chaotic for their own best). give shlohmo's Bad Vibes a spin. imo it's better than the EP although they're quite different in sound so I guess that depends what you dig, the former being more lo-fi bountiful. great listening either way ^^.
    March 5 10:29 AM
  • osmark86 thx for the tip. you like a lot of electronic music I see. checked out any of the stuff on my latest list?

  • thelastsignal Hey man, congrats on the staff position! We haven't really communicated much on here, but you gave me some feedback on one of reviews before. You seem very good at proofreading and establishing voice, so I was wondering if you could check out one of my recent reviews when you have time and let me know what you think (read: tear it a new one)? Thanks either way!
    February 11 11:25 PM
  • Eloriaz Still have to listen to the Shogun comps Deviant rec'd me (Way Of The Warrior). I don't know about Rockwell, I'll find some tracks of his on YouTube!
    February 11 11:04 PM
  • SadAndHolyGlow No problem, man.
    February 11 10:58 PM
  • Eloriaz God damn ampersands thatd my message! I was gonna say: I take it you're more into techstep and neurofunk. I love those as well. The only DnB style that doesn't do much for me is commercial and generic jump-up (which is easily understandable I guess, haha!)
    February 11 10:51 PM
  • Eloriaz I only gave it one listen, but I was impressed by many of the tracks, yes! From what I can understand, many Hospital artists have gone full//too much commercial in the recent years, which is a shame, but that comp has some hot liquid tracks that are totally worth it. I would say it's a keeper :) This track for instance:

  • FromDaHood I wouldn't sweat it. Your assumption was logical (he's definitely the best user reviewer right now and would probably be a top contrib in short time) and I don't think it was as harsh as people made it out to be. Congrats on the promo, you deserve it for everyone reason I can think of.
    February 11 03:29 PM
  • SgtPepper Congrats, Will. I'm glad to have you on board.
    February 11 02:51 PM

    January 20 04:17 PM
  • Bassclef Just thougt about it because of your Review of Naibu - thanks for the answer ;)
    January 20 02:33 PM
  • Bassclef 'sup Brostep, what about a review ob Hybrid Minds - Mountains?Think you might like it
    January 20 11:55 AM
  • MortimusPrime dude you like electronic music right? check out ed Harrison - neotokyo if you haven't. its got a nice 4.5 average on sput and its free on bandcamp (its really good) . oh and btw thanks for showing me Crying in plug (you probably don't remember) but that stuff rules. do you know anymore chiptune like that?
    January 19 09:15 AM
  • Rinx7 It is definitely one of my favorite releases from last year. It hasn't really gotten much attention though.
    January 16 11:55 PM
  • Rinx7 Yo Brostep check out Raum und Zeit by neosignal I think you will like it.
    January 16 11:06 PM
  • SadAndHolyGlow Will do. I'll let you know what I think.
    January 4 11:06 PM
  • SadAndHolyGlow I did not. I hadn't even heard of them until today whilst looking through the list of new releases from this month. They don't really sound like my style, but I'm still checking them out.
    January 4 10:45 PM
  • mindleviticus oh yeah sixdegrees was telling me about it
    January 2 03:23 PM
  • mindleviticus what's your avatar from?
    January 1 02:24 PM
  • SgtPepper Congrats in getting into Princeton! Hope all is well. Also, out of curiosity, when is the user's list getting posted? I saw the google doc, but I'm excited to see the blurbs.
    December 22 10:31 PM
  • clercqie I'm planning to. It's gone on Nodata though, so I'll have to look around for it a bit.
    December 9 07:08 AM
  • mindleviticus r plus seven is odd and not beat driven at all you woudlnt like it but hyperion already said that so poopy poop
    December 7 12:46 PM
  • theacademy also if u havent listened to amaranthe get their first album its horrible but the best thing ever
    December 7 10:22 AM
  • theacademy aite u asked for it: neko case is my runner up aoty, females: miriam bryant, sarah jarosz, new mazzy star are all great... chelsea wolfe another level obviously; bad electronicore i dug: blessthefall ****ing sucks but i like the new album a little, also "hooligans" by issues is my jam. tbh u seem like u dig the type of music that i come to sputnik to get recs about so idk if this is much help. gonna do my 2013 list when i get some time but itll be full of whack s*** dude
    December 7 10:20 AM
  • theacademy lol r u sure i have like the worst taste ever
    December 7 10:08 AM
  • Hyperion1001 i doubt it. it goes past being beatless into a kind of foreign sound design that couldnt even really be described as beatless or rhythmic. idk though its very different, you might as well just give it a try. youll know quickly if its for you or not.
    December 6 02:59 AM
  • Gwyn. i don't think it's all that unsubtle but after watching high school of the dead i think anything can be subtle lol. and moe isn't for everyone, i suppose
    November 30 11:05 PM
  • Gwyn. Kyoukai No Kanata rules yea
    November 30 04:21 PM
  • MisterTornado When do you need this by? By the way, the link isn't working for me. Haha, mayb......
    November 27 01:56 PM
  • bach I can't find any links to the cokiyu single/compilation. But, the whole thing is on spotify. Not much help but i stream music
    November 26 02:28 PM
  • stepmaniac thank you for introducing Sputnik to IU
    November 25 09:39 AM
  • TMobotron I don't hate that track but I can't help but compare it to the original and think it's worse. I love all the prod on Old so much.
    November 24 10:55 PM
  • Omaha yeah i knew youd understand that! gotta admit, man, i admire you for trying out so many things in your write ups. i guess staff is intimidating because you know noooobody will miss your review, haha
    November 12 05:40 PM
  • Omaha ain't it good to know that any experimentation in writing that we do on here will get torn apart unless it's flawless? Haha, no wonder I've been in a safe zone with my writing for so long.
    November 12 05:25 PM
  • clercqie :] Lots of good stuff in the comments.
    November 5 01:22 PM
  • clercqie In case of Trentemoller, be sure to check out his remixes as well when you get around to it. Those really do a sort of cross-over to electro and house styles. E.g.
    November 4 05:35 PM
  • clercqie This Bliss and The Last Resort, respectively. Especially that last one is one for the ages, imo.
    November 4 05:33 PM
  • clercqie Pantha du Prince and Trentemoller are the way to go then. :]
    November 4 05:10 PM
  • clercqie Some essential / otherwise excellent techno albums imo are Shed - Shedding The Past, Ben Klock - One, Plastikman - Musik, Basic Channel - BCD (1 and 2), Frozen Border - Minutes In Ice and Ricardo Villalobos - Alcachofa; among many many others. I really like the very minimalist kind though, I don't know if that's your thing; or if you'd rather listen to more melodic stuff.
    November 4 04:24 PM
  • Omaha I'd say the self-titled is perhaps the most accessible entrance point for 311. Listen to that and let me know what you think, and then we can move from there.
    October 28 06:41 PM
  • FromDaHood How the **** do you have more reviews than me? You're gonna get Staffed before me too fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
    October 27 01:37 AM
  • Glokta Thanks for the continued advice mate, really appreciate it. Gonna' upload a new review either today or tomoz, The Cure (def gonna' try and stamp either my personalilty on it, or just go all out with the emotional connections, just to try something different). Cheers once again bro.
    October 25 06:36 PM
  • Jom I don't make the agreements with Metacritic or Wikipedia but I can tell you with certainty that contributing reviews will not be published or included on Metacritic at all. This is also not a 'new' rule, it's just SUPPOSED to be more rigidly enforced for reasons I'm sure you can figure out. You're free to try to add your links to Wikipedia or whatever, though.
    October 25 11:32 AM
  • Deviant. But Vapour continues that sound, so Room(s) is where you should start. Everything else he's done is more hip hop, idm leaning
    October 25 03:30 AM
  • Deviant. I'm actually one of the few people who didn't think that that album was really all that I could just tell you to read my review for it, but... basically I feel like it lacked a personality, the way it adopted footwork so loosely and played around with too many different sounds It's a producers trick that works some of the time, but I don't think it worked there. Lacked cohesiveness as far as I'm concerned
    October 25 03:30 AM
  • Xenophanes What?
    October 24 06:25 PM
  • Rinx7 Yeah Koan Sound is pretty good I have really enjoyed their past couple of EPs. I am wondering how their collab with Asa is going to turn out since it seems like a bit of a departure from their regular style.
    October 20 05:49 PM
  • Ecnalzen It probably got a little too hyped for me before I actually got around to listening to it. I would take Norah Jones or Sara Bareilles over her anyday, but that's just me. I might need to give it another go. I listened to it straight through in one sitting and nothing really jumped out to me.
    October 18 10:40 AM
  • Ecnalzen I saw that you mentioned her in the write up. I was not a big fan of Pure Heroin. I was a little dumbfounded when people were calling her the savior of pop and whatnot.
    October 18 10:13 AM
  • Ecnalzen Ah, that is a bummer. Honestly, I am not even sure what to put it in. What would you classify it as? Electronic pop or something? I dunno. Thanks for the link though!
    October 18 09:51 AM
  • Deviant. They're not saying that's it's literally inaudible, just that so it's so low end that it's almost pointless. There's utilizing space to create tension within a beat, and then there's laziness and ineffective song writing/song production
    October 18 08:50 AM
  • Deviant. RA gave Asteroids a 3
    October 18 07:41 AM
  • Ecnalzen Hi, Brostep. I have been really enjoying that Until the Ribbon Breaks EP you reviewed not too long ago and since I am not really familiar with this style of music, I was wondering if you could recommend some other stuff with a similar vibe to it. I checked your recommended by reviewer section for it, but I did that, so...
    October 17 08:19 PM
  • Deviant. Sure, if you're only basing the ratings solely on this site. And if by everyone you mean the dozen or so people who gave it higher than a 3.5
    October 17 07:29 PM
  • Deviant. Or I just don't like overrated dubstep, one or the other
    October 17 02:36 AM
  • Glokta Might be cheecky, but i just did another review and since ur 1 of the only users 2 give me sum intelligent feedback I would greatly appreciate it if you took a look at it. Cheers m8.
    October 11 09:35 PM
  • clercqie Oh nice! Cheers man.
    October 8 11:33 AM
  • treeqt. ^ _ ^
    September 22 09:54 AM
  • ShitsofRain Hey Bro :D Can you recommend me some great drum and bass of this year? I really liked the Fall EP. Thanks :)
    September 19 02:16 PM
  • Mongi123 No prob dude take your time
    September 17 10:50 PM
  • Mongi123 Hey dude! Can you do me a favor and read my latest Porcupine tree review for me? You give the best feedback so I wanna see what you think. Thanks man.
    September 16 09:05 PM
  • Glokta Hey mate, I appreciate the feedback on my "The Longcut" review. I have to say I agree with all of your advice and will take it into consideration when writing my next one. Cheers for the pos also. Also, it's good to have someone give some genuine feedback rather than calling me a dick or whatnot. Thanks
    September 6 10:08 AM
  • treeqt. the new songs are mostly pretty bad
    September 5 06:00 PM
  • clercqie Yeah I have. Not a huge fan of his stuff, it's a bit too slick imo, but I'd certainly dig it in a club environment. Production quality is nice though. Check out the Factory Floor debut (leaked on NoData) if you're in for some really groovy techno. I've seen them live this summer, and they killed it.
    September 3 11:56 AM

    August 22 04:51 PM
  • Crawl Fennekin sucks. :/
    August 22 02:18 PM
  • TMobotron Oh and I'm about to head to work so if you send a revised version, questions, rebuttals, whatever, I'll definitely be happy to respond but it might not be for a bit.
    August 21 01:31 PM
  • TMobotron Okay man I sent back some notes. Sorry if it's unnecessarily long-winded (which it is).
    August 21 01:30 PM
  • TMobotron Absolutely do you wanna just send it over fb?
    August 21 03:22 AM
  • Irving I'm really glad to hear that. It's a fantastic summer album and I can totally see myself returning to it again and again over the next few weeks. Did you get it on vinyl or something? Also, I just noticed that I somewhat namedropped you in my review hahahah.
    August 20 10:50 PM
  • slep ah, gotcha. wasn't sure if there was an actual quota that needed to be met. thanks for the answer.
    August 20 07:51 PM
  • TMobotron No real need, I just wanna get the word out about it because it needs attention.
    August 15 09:51 PM
  • TMobotron If you get time, check out my review for Old Apparatus - Compendium and see if it's something you would dig.
    August 14 09:58 PM
  • Mongi123 Alright I emailed it to you haha. Enjoy your time away by the way!
    August 5 05:29 PM
  • Mongi123 Oh ok no problem man. I personally thought it was my best work, but I got two negs so I just wanted to see what you thought cause you really know your s***. No big deal though!
    August 5 05:13 PM
  • Mongi123 Yo man could you please read my latest review? Just wanna know what you think. Thanks!
    August 4 02:52 PM
  • clercqie Oh cool, have fun with your vacation (?). Nope, I'm kinda against the whole fb thing. ;]

  • Jom Adios, enjoy your summer! Or winter. Or whatever.
    July 24 10:48 AM
  • TMobotron Absolutely man, that would be no problem.
    July 21 11:19 PM
  • clercqie Just so you know, I would pos your latest comment in the Drumsound thread hard if I could...
    July 21 02:21 PM
  • TMobotron Word yeah man it rules pretty hard, any plans on reviewing it?
    July 21 11:12 AM
  • TMobotron okay I'm on Need to Feel and it's rocking my socks already
    July 21 05:57 AM
  • TMobotron Sweet man ill just give the whole thing a listen, you can always bet on hyperdub. Hope you dig zomby.
    July 21 12:50 AM
  • aok so i made the alt but for different reasons that should reveal themselves if you check steveaoki's list lol. thanks for the advice
    July 18 12:52 AM
  • clercqie Hey Will, I'd like you to give these a listen: and You have no idea how nostalgic this is to me, and I'm shocked that those songs are already six years old. Anyways, some of the greatest bangers ever imo.
    July 17 02:05 PM
  • Mongi123 What's up dude. Do you think you can check out my latest work today if you have any time? I just wanna know if I've improved or not.
    July 10 10:18 AM
  • Rev Hey dude, I was wondering if you'd have ant interest in checking out my new album. I dunno if it's quite what you're into but TMobo just posted a review for it on the front page and Royal's posting one later so you could probably read those and decide to check it out before you waste an hour listening to it haha
    July 7 04:27 PM
  • aok lol somethin like that
    July 6 11:22 PM
  • treeqt. i mean i play dota so close enough i guess
    July 4 06:50 PM
  • treeqt. definitely not. but you are american right? because there is a US wow player with that name, and I'm fairly certain he plays league.

  • i don't pour through new stuff like 95% of this site seems to. just go to lotsa shows and listen to the same music over again mostly until something grabs me. new zomby was solid, i get to see him in a couple weeks . you should come visit (where you from anyway?)
    July 1 11:21 PM
  • aok lol. still haven't heard the album
    July 1 09:53 PM
  • aok right there right there let the grove get in there there right there
    June 30 11:04 PM
  • Omaha Yeah probably, it's just hard for me to view it that way, you know? Maybe I'll appreciate it with the more time I spend with electronic music though
    June 30 12:32 PM
  • Omaha Honestly, man, I just am much more into what Burial has been doing lately. There are a few things about Untrue I don't dig, one of which is the vocal samples he utilizes. They take away too much attention from the music imo, and I find most of them to be pretty grating. Also, the percussion feels a lot more upfront, and I prefer the subtleties of Kindred.

  • TMobotron I made a comment on that in the zomby thread, but basically I agree with some of his points - I do think the album has its flaws, but the tracks are just so strong for me that it's still a solid 4.5 and some slight homogeny on disc 2 is forgiveable. He says at the beginning he wasn't really into Zomby's last two albums which makes me think he just isn't big on his style. So he puts a ton of focus on the negatives without mentioning the fact that there are 33 tracks all of which are stunning.

  • Metalstyles Cool, thanks :)
    June 23 06:25 AM
  • Metalstyles Hey man, I've got a request for you. I'm no electronic music aficionado, but one of my friends is a DNB artist and he released an EP earlier this year which I find to be really good. Now, I think I would be a rubbish DNB reviewer, which is why I turn to you since I know you know your s*** and you can write really well. Here, give it a go and let me know what you think of it:
    June 22 11:15 AM
  • Jash That's lame, hopefully they get that sorted out for ya soon
    June 16 02:22 PM
  • TMobotron You should check the new Zomby album if you get time. I wrote a review for it and I'm not sure it'll completely be your thing but he's my 2nd fav producer to burial so I gotta rec it, and it's pretty varied so there's something for pretty much everyone even if you don't dig the overall style. Someone said it's on Spotify if you have that, but you can find it elsewhere too (it comes out mon/tues).
    June 15 05:17 AM
  • greg84 I'm only rec'ing this to you 'coz I'm too lazy to write mine. Haha. I've been pretty lazy lately.
    June 11 07:16 PM
  • greg84 You should review the Disclosure album dude. It's really good.
    June 11 06:17 PM
  • Atari Cool what indie pop band and what's the name of your other site again?
    June 3 10:24 PM
  • Atari hope you're still planning on reviewing real friend's EP ;)
    June 3 02:28 PM
  • Passive Madman Gotcha. I feel like it shows a lot of potential, and it has a lot of interesting ideas, but it does kind of get trapped in the EDM cliches that it's obviously catering to. On a related note: Is it just me, or is the focus of most EDM producers right now about 95% on production techniques and 5% on actual songwriting?
    May 29 04:42 AM
  • Passive Madman Dude, what's your opinion on this? I'm kind of curious after reading your 7 Minutes Dead review.
    May 28 06:57 PM
  • TMobotron Totes agree with your SP:MC soundoff, I'm so tired of all these deep dubstep producers making technically well-produced and weighty tracks but not bothering to actually concern themselves with quality musical content in the process.
    May 25 08:41 AM
  • Atari hey man i don't want you to think i'm trying to challenge your feedback was just trying to get a better perspective of why those phrases/words bothered you. Maybe they are unnecessary, I've just never been bothered by little things like that. but i'll be taking all of this into consideration as I continue to write ;)
    May 21 04:20 PM
  • Acanthus Thanks, I'll try and check it out!
    May 21 11:15 AM

    May 11 09:42 PM
  • coocoocachoo what is your all time favorite dubstep album? you seem to be an avid listener of the genre for sure
    May 11 04:26 PM
  • Deviant. Jash is the kind of person that labels like Black Box are designed for: here's dubstep 12 years after the fact when all is said and done and is swayed enough to try and make it himself
    May 2 06:06 PM
  • Deviant. Yeah it's pretty average. Just more of the same stuff that was revolutionary in 2006, but now is just recycled
    May 2 05:56 PM
  • Jom I don't mind (and you shouldn't have to worry since people can't retaliate against your reviews as a contributor via the pos/neg system), but cheers for letting me know either way.
