  • hal1ax this is considered a pretty legendary coldwave album --- Siekiera~Nowa Aleksandria.
    November 30 07:56 PM
  • hal1ax coldwave is basically europe's gloomy / atmospheric / depressive version of new-wave/post-punk. it is very synth-oriented too
    November 30 07:53 PM
  • hal1ax actually maybe try /// Lebanon Hanover~Tomb for Two. they are much less 'cold'wave but they still cool as fuhh
    November 30 07:51 PM
  • hal1ax ya my man of course! and fck no that is a very insightful comparison actually. kraftwerk was one of the first every 'coldwave' groups so u more spot on than u think with that. but ya i love them. i wish i had more coldwave similar but sadly it's a pretty small musical spectrum

  • sach it's coming to a bit of a head (i.e. the choice is alcohol or homelessness), so I think there's a good chance I might kick it this time. fingers crossed at least.
    November 30 04:05 AM
  • sach it's all case-by-case yeah. but for me, at my worst with opiates, i was able to get up in the morning and function. not well necessarily, but i was able to get up and do things. with alcohol i had days where i wouldn't get out of the bed, days where all i could do was put the bottle to my mouth etc... hell even now i've had close to 1L of vodka and this is a quiet day.
    November 30 03:48 AM
  • sach i'd argue alcohol is almost as debilitating as opiates (when abused "correctly")... almost to the point where the only cure for the hangovers is/was another bottle of vodka
    November 30 03:38 AM
  • sach it unlocks my lethargy and "boredom" i know that much!!!! it also grows my brain cells, which is good. it's like a supplement for me.
    November 30 03:31 AM
  • sach yeah, dude WEED
    November 30 03:25 AM
  • sach tf u laughin at ****er
    November 30 03:17 AM
  • macman76 Yeah, the social sciences are sort of going through a realignment of sorts. There is a push to increase replications of classic or popular studies, preregistering what statistical tests are to be preformed before a study is conducted, and to in general have more scrutiny wrt what methods researchers employ. Unfortunately, the incentives will only get worse as grant money goes away from researchers.
    November 30 01:11 AM
  • macman76 "Life-Hacky" might not be the right term. Rather, some researchers are spending less time developing and testing sound theories and are rather collecting a lot of data, doing a lot of tests, and publishing papers out of statistically significant results. This article talks about how it affects nutritional sciences: http://fivethirtyeight.com/features/you-cant-trust-what-you-read-about-nutrition/.
    November 30 12:56 AM
  • macman76 The author of the power pose study published with about 40 subjects and nobody has been able to replicate her results since. However, her results got her a book deal, a TED talk, and an appearance on Colbert.
    November 30 12:51 AM
  • macman76 yeah, I read that blog regularly, the guy is a political scientist/statistician and he argues that often many experimental conditions will have some effect, but it will often be tiny relative the noise of your estimate. Sometimes you'll find an effect that's big and significant, but extremely unrealistic and unreplicable especially when you have a small sample size. Currently, though, there is an incentive for scientists to find life-hacky type effects. For example, search "power pose".

  • macman76 http://andrewgelman.com/2015/03/02/what-hypothesis-testing-is-all-about-hint-its-not-what-you-think/http://andrewgelman.com/2016/11/13/more-on-my-paper-with-john-carlin-on-type-m-and-type-s-errors/
    November 29 11:12 PM
  • macman76 I don't remember much from my formal stats courses, but the p-value would be your type 1 error. Whatever your t-stat is (which would be calculated given the difference between your mean and the null mean as your "u", and the SD as the SD calculated, and from a t-distribution with degrees of freedom of 14 (n-1)), you find the corresponding p-value for your t-stat. I hated my stats course, so I don't remember terminology very well and frankly I've read too much about how hypothesis testing is bad.

  • macman76 http://www.mathsisfun.com/data/standard-deviation.htmlThis is pretty nice, check tvc's shout box where I explained it

  • GhostOfSarcasticBtrd Dude you probably don't even realize how utterly damning demographics are to the left. But, like I said, nobody will touch it cause of fear of being called all sorts of names.
    November 27 02:12 PM
  • GhostOfSarcasticBtrd The best* yeah I know. They're also the ones that piss off lefties the most cause they are the most political of the sciences and statistics as a field is basically the left's sworn enemy when used appropriately. If you combine good stats knowledge with understanding of human biodiversity leftist ideology crumbles before you. Unfortunately most don't know how do to this and there are also SUPER taboo aspects of it.
    November 27 02:06 PM
  • GhostOfSarcasticBtrd Fr tho, cause I did the heavy stats/bio core with it.

  • Storm In A Teacup what lol the top 250 users? lol
    November 23 03:06 PM
  • Chortles very good my man! yeah it is a tad barebones sometimes, not as you might expect with shoegaze (lush and full) or noise rock (in ur face) but somehow combines both into a more laid back style that complements both aspects well i think. anyway glad you're digging it! haven't found anything quite like them yet
    November 22 04:12 AM
  • Futures yeah idk man it's weird. mom said i always hated it growing up, never ate it again.

    November 21 08:18 PM
  • OmairSh Yeah I hear you. I'm tempering my expectations atm, but I'm glad the band's alive. That intro is apparently Rangar's voice with effects according to Leo. Sounded really cool and not like vocals at all.
    November 21 06:56 PM

  • Chortles oh yeah and speaking of gaze and noise rock, you should def check swirlies if you haven't before, i imagine it as the child resulting from passionate lovemaking between mbv and sonic youth or something (blonder tongue audio bacon is the best alb to go w/ if ur interested)
    November 19 12:59 PM
  • Rowan5215 it was roger waters, he knows you called him an egoist that one time and he's come back for revenge
    November 19 06:59 AM
  • Futures there really was no """legal""" avenue he could take. he took the right approach. someone like chelsea manning took the wrong approach and was a little careless. the line is drawn when the government is trampling on your constitutional rights in secrecy. it's been proven his releases haven't put anyone in harms way.
    November 19 06:58 AM
  • Futures what the **** dude lol he released documents that first of all put nobody in harms way and exposed the disgusting unconstitutional trampling of our right to privacy. he is a hero.
    November 19 06:19 AM
  • GhostOfSarcasticBtrd I am the establishment.
    November 19 06:13 AM
  • Futures so pompeo has said mass data collection is completely fine and called for snowden to be executed.
    November 19 06:07 AM
  • Futures so uh how about jeff sessions as ag and pompeo as cia director? lmao
    November 19 05:43 AM
  • GhostOfSarcasticBtrd I have to write/edit legal memoranda so it's ingrained in me tbh.
    November 19 05:43 AM
  • GhostOfSarcasticBtrd I refuse to correct you, though, cause it's only one user that I've decided to do it to. User BallsDeep is the chosen one.
    November 19 05:26 AM
  • Rowan5215 man would love an auto-dropping needle, that's literally like the high life right there. sip some don perignon, throw some caviar in with the lotus and then watch your needle descend hands-free. a man can dream
    November 19 05:24 AM
  • GhostOfSarcasticBtrd It's nice to see that it's appreciated. At this point I feel compelled to do it for consistency if nothing else. Can't let him get away with such appalling freewheeling with our shared English language.
    November 19 05:14 AM
  • Rowan5215 I have an el cheapo player that you can record onto USB, although I've never tried that because apparently the quality is shocking. it's dece but doesn't do the albums justice
    November 19 05:13 AM
  • Rowan5215 dunno, don't care, I'll buy a whole new vinyl player and speakers just to hear that bit after the first chorus where Ricky goes ham on the piano
    November 19 05:10 AM
  • Rowan5215 nah just torrented, would love to have that kinda money but didn't unfortunately. tho would kill for those replica vinyls of the early singles, especially See Emily Play, gah damn
    November 19 05:07 AM
  • Rowan5215 there's some great stuff in there. highly recommend "In the Beechwoods" and the remastered Man and the Journey show. it's nice to hear the songs from More actually played well
    November 19 05:03 AM
  • Rowan5215 is it a smashing pumpkins cover? no one can sing as good as billy corgan, imo. on a serious note have you heard any of the early years boxset yet?
    November 19 04:47 AM
  • Rowan5215 never heard of them are they like led zeppelin?
    November 19 04:28 AM
  • Chortles yaaaa i thought it looked familiar! poor jason. i wouldn't worry, this sounds p dope and it's a bet i'm willing to take... we'll see if this rec plays out my friend
    November 19 03:09 AM
  • Chortles ohh that sounds perfect dude i'm downloading right away!!! ps - nice prof pic. the only one that could have gotten away with replacing the old one lol
    November 19 02:57 AM
  • Chortles haha yeah dude it's kind of wack, i guess they are more specific genres so not a lot of people have it on their pies. to be fair tho the last few chunks of my chart change like every day somehow (without me even rating anything) so they've both been on there at some point haha. dude no excuses, you're the shoegaze king. btw if you have some good recs, toss em my way - i've been mega into shoegaze this year after finally realizing loveless was perfect after years and years of listening 8-)
    November 18 10:05 AM
  • Chortles oh nice 8) didn't even know i was in anything yet until now, thanks dog. i'm interested to see the final list. ps #3 on shoegaze god damn i didn't know u went that hard!!!

  • Futures i watched the whole thing lmao. the gleeful cheer to suicide watch. one of the most glorious things i've ever witnessed
    November 16 02:37 AM
  • Futures https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UiWY0iRLV94 this is the funniest thing ever
    November 16 01:58 AM
  • Futures well his shortlists seem to speak the opposite. bolton is the opposite of the foreign policy he was advocating. there are plenty of qualified non interventionists he could'v apppointed.
    November 15 10:18 PM
  • Futures i was really hoping trump would actually stick to non intervention doesn't seem likely now. he is now a neocon puppet. btw rand paul came out today and said he would not confirm bolton or guilini which is awesome.
    November 15 09:20 PM
  • Futures sorry bolton to me is pure evil. a draft dogger in vietnam who now masturbates over sending men and women to die in war. gets me fired up.
    November 15 09:16 PM
  • Futures oh my ****ing god dude you have to be being ignorant here lol. he has said he has no regrets over the iraq war. he has said we should bomb and invade iran. he has spoken for war in syria. he has said we should start war with north korea and overthrow their government.
    November 15 09:13 PM
  • Futures are you ****ing kidding lol how could it get any worse than bush era neocons and corrupt lobbyists?
    November 15 08:57 PM
  • Futures how about trumps cabinet list lmao rudy giuliani or the biggest neocon warmongerer ever john bolton lmao
    November 15 08:54 PM
  • Conmaniac hey I finished the album. I really enjoyed it man it was really interesting stuff. Very unsettling though so next time I listen to it I'll have to be in a more comfortable place yknow. definitely what I was looking for though. prob a solid 3.5/5 on a first listen through but I def see it growing slowly. a lot to digest/decipher
    November 13 04:32 PM
  • Conmaniac hey will do man ill shoutbox ya when i listen to it

  • Titan haha yeah it was a picture of a woman crying with all of her DNC garb on....a true classic
    November 11 10:31 PM
  • Titan his victory feels like the cowboys just won the superbowl
    November 11 10:19 PM
  • Titan i agree with everything you said. the hate won't die down, it's just the democratic nature. people protesting because of a fair democratic election in which they lost. like one of those viral memes, "you don't know how to lose when everyone gets a trophy"...
    November 11 10:19 PM
  • Titan absolutely thrilled! loving the liberal misery as well lol
    November 11 09:46 PM

    November 10 04:02 AM
  • GhostOfSarcasticBtrd Get turnt tf up this weekend boi.
    November 10 03:28 AM
  • Futures it's awesome to see man. gary covered the spread in virtually every important swing state including a massive 5% in colorado. people will either listen and appeal to libertarians or face another election swing their choice.
    November 10 03:14 AM
  • Futures no unfortunately not. 3.2% and over 4 million votes though. this is a movement that ain't going away.
    November 10 03:02 AM
  • Futures isis is a unique thing. it's a really bad situation. it's either mass drone war, boots on the ground or do very little.
    November 10 01:28 AM
  • Futures i honestly don't think isis is a threat. they are regionally contained. there have been no direct isis attacks in the us only inspired ones. drone wars are not good man especially concerning american citizens which he doesn't seem to care about.
    November 10 01:17 AM
  • Futures i mean sure but he is awful on civil liberties which is my biggest concern. we gotta kill the families of terrorists, shut down parts of the internet, open up the libel laws, drone the s*** outta isis, etc
    November 10 01:14 AM
  • Futures well you said a lot of them look great for a republican. i'm not one so i do not care lol. i don't believe a word the man says and don't know how anybody could believe him.
    November 10 01:01 AM
  • Futures i'm not a republican friend.
    November 10 12:58 AM
  • Futures not like the whole machine is a big fan of him lol. ryan is getting ousted. there will be no wall. there will be no muslim ban. there will be no dropping out of nato.
    November 10 12:44 AM
  • Futures he will probably be a forgettable president policy wise tbh. he ain't getting no second term though. any democrat will destroy him. the great hope is rand paul still. i think he is going to fail in the primaries again and run as a libertarian. it's the dream.
    November 10 12:41 AM
  • Futures tweets with tens of thousands of retweets telling johnson supporters to kill themselves. the salt was delicious. love getting the blame. johnson is going down in the history books.
    November 10 12:31 AM
  • Futures well you know that's bulls*** right haha. most people who voted gary lean repub. check the numbers in colorado, nevada, minnesota and arizona. without gary she seriously would've been embarrassed even more.
    November 10 12:24 AM
  • Futures dunold tump
    November 10 12:20 AM
  • LordePots didnt mean to insult im just worked up about this s***. and i had a similar conversation about vote shaming earlier that got me riled up as well... like i get the attitude that it is pretty anti-democratic to judge people on their vote but i think once we have an election like this its a pretty ****ing real time to start asking some serious questions about the kind of people that live in the states
    November 9 07:33 PM
  • LordePots My response was indeed abrasive tho, sorry
    November 9 03:52 PM
  • LordePots You said something of respectable integrity and then felt the need to make sure I knew you think I'm "an ass" after
    November 9 03:49 PM
  • LordePots Cool, way to devalue the integrity of your own comment by being salty about it.
    November 9 03:41 PM
  • Spacesh1p What Obama said is spot on though - now we should all be rooting for Trump's success. Let's hope people listen.
    November 9 01:31 PM
  • Spacesh1p At this point I'm just sick of the extraordinary negativity of the campaign. I'm ready to move on. Both sides appeared to be running for power as an end in and of itself rather than as a means to realize their vision of the country, so we'll find out what that is. In any case it won't be a sci-fi, dystopian society like many would have you believe.
    November 9 01:30 PM
  • Spacesh1p I mean I basically am the establishment given my education, job and where I live and the s*** that Clinton and her media partners said month after month got on my nerves a lot too. I can only imagine how people who are actually in a bad situation felt about it.
    November 9 01:23 PM
  • Spacesh1p Agreed. Both sides engaged in mud slinging identity politics and I wouldn't say that Trump's version was all that much worse than Clinton's. I have some hope that he can make things better for people and, combined with a changed temperament (still a big if), maybe people can come around to him. What voters agreed with on both sides is that the system isn't working and I hope that they can appreciate progress in fixing it, if it happens, regardless of who is causing it.

  • Spacesh1p Reasonable man. I didn't vote Trump as I believe you did but he has a massive opportunity to make a lot of positive change during his time in office. I hope he can do it by bringing people together because that's what we need right now.
    November 9 12:59 PM
  • zakalwe It's always been a mess touted as flawless. I'm not having it bro.
    November 9 03:24 AM
  • GhostOfSarcasticBtrd Here's grandaddy elaborating: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xtpgkX588nM - This is the video I used to sell Starless on the idea.
    November 7 03:57 AM
  • GhostOfSarcasticBtrd Here's grandaddy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q3d7YKAeLWc
    November 7 03:56 AM
  • GhostOfSarcasticBtrd Same thing, proposals are all just variations on implementation.
    November 7 03:46 AM
  • GhostOfSarcasticBtrd It's the same thing as a NIT.
    November 7 03:40 AM
  • Futures it's not a be all end all but it sure as hell would be a lot cheaper if we got ubi and axed all those programs.
    November 7 02:12 AM
  • Futures lol believe it or not gary is disliked by so called "purists". as a pragmatist i love him though.
    November 7 02:04 AM
  • Futures well i just told you the libertarian version would cut all forms of welfare and replace it with ubi. it would cost massively less. check this short article out http://thelibertarianrepublic.com/gary-johnson-is-open-to-universal-basic-income/
    November 7 01:59 AM
  • GhostOfSarcasticBtrd Not at all, I'm just saying that short of eliminating welfare of any kind provided by the state there is no better solution than the NIT.
    November 7 01:58 AM
  • Futures it would be a massively less burden on the taxpayers then the current welfare programs. it is actually very libertarian to support it.
    November 7 01:50 AM
  • GhostOfSarcasticBtrd It's infinitely cleaner than compartmentalized welfare with a million different governmental agencies like we have now. It cuts so much middle man cost it's crazy. Plus, like I mentioned, you can place requirements on it, i.e. you don't get it without some sort of work.
    November 7 01:49 AM
  • Futures just wanna chime in here and say ubi and get rid of social security, medicare, medicaid and unemployment.
    November 7 01:47 AM
  • GhostOfSarcasticBtrd Then portion y has to be used to purchase a private medical plan etc. so that you can eliminate as much government waste as possible and spend waaaaaaaaay less money than we currently do with no material loss to anyone in society. Except bureaucrats, but **** them.
    November 7 01:45 AM
  • GhostOfSarcasticBtrd Only if you don't have strings attached and they just get it for nothing, which isn't what I'm arguing in favor of. You can put all sorts of restrictions on it, e.g. you have to do x for 40 hours per week so that you at the very least have to forfeit your leisure time, which is already better than the current system.
    November 7 01:43 AM
  • GhostOfSarcasticBtrd So you have zero government safety net. That's as hardcore as they come.
    November 7 01:36 AM
  • GhostOfSarcasticBtrd Bruh, incest I place in the same group as any other voluntary sex between consenting adults of capacity. Then for gambling it would be legal for anyone to do it so that monopoly wouldn't exist, and then the NIT is EASILY the best welfare solution unless you're arguing for no welfare at all.
    November 7 01:34 AM
  • GhostOfSarcasticBtrd Most people would consider legalizing heroin, prostitution, gambling, polygamy, incest, etc. "radical." Also want to basically restrict the government to defense of property rights and nothing else, so like the military/police/courts/EPA and then a negative income tax to cover the entire safety net. That's it (abbreviated version ofc)
    November 7 01:25 AM
  • GhostOfSarcasticBtrd Yes. What do you mean by "pretty laxed with what you argue for"?
    November 7 01:13 AM
  • GhostOfSarcasticBtrd Most of the people around who oppose gun ownership live in fancy zip codes full of white people and wouldn't venture into places like Anacostia unless absolutely necessary.
    November 7 01:08 AM
  • GhostOfSarcasticBtrd I'm actually from NOVA (Arlington) [North Arlington] so the Democrat / Republican split is like 70/30 in my county. I'm ultra right wing around here.
    November 7 01:06 AM
  • GhostOfSarcasticBtrd VA.
    November 7 12:49 AM

  • GhostOfSarcasticBtrd pbateman is easily one of the biggest pussies on this site. Dude has no integrity whatsoever and will talk s*** then avoid the argument entirely once he gets called on it.
    November 3 09:24 PM
  • GhostOfSarcasticBtrd He's still searching his brain for an answer to my question of why 15 American states that have the same gun availability as the others have murder rates equal to or lower than European nations. And, naturally, he erases all my posts cause he doesn't want a record of it.
    November 3 07:01 PM
  • GhostOfSarcasticBtrd Look at my shoutbox he folded in like three posts hahahaha.

    October 26 02:04 PM
  • Futures oh and got some inside info actually from the mass lp that it's rumored that weld's people asked for those polls to happen.
    October 26 04:44 AM
  • Futures http://boston.cbslocal.com/2016/09/30/elizabeth-warren-curt-schilling-senate-poll-2018-president/within the margin of error. he is an extremely intelligent and well spoken dude if you listen to him talk. plus kicking out one of the most socialist members of congress would be a win for everybody involved.
    October 26 04:43 AM
  • Futures there's talk of the current libertarian vp nominee bill weld (former gov of mass) running for senate and taking out elizabeth warren as a libertarian. a super early poll had them dead even.
    October 26 04:37 AM
  • Futures 10-15 years from now the republican party will be the libertarian party
    October 26 04:32 AM
  • Futures fair enough man. curious what do you think about marco rubio?
