  • oltnabrick Opeth has became one of the most respected bands in modern metal. Their music goes beyond a mere collection ofsoundsand invokes thoughts and visions in listeners' minds. Concerts have been played to celebrate their eight-albumaccomplishment and their development over the years. While critics may believe they are just another talented metalband, tothe fans, Opeth is more than a band. It is a life-changing experience proving that music can affect people in deep, moreprofound ways than ever imagined.

  • Torontonian As far as your ranking go. There are of coarse some disagreements i have but i respect your decision since you're much more exposed than i am, and as a result probably know better. But the ONE album that i sincerely think its ranking is absolutely abysmal is Rush-2112. That album (for me at least) is incredibly moving on an emotional spectrum and was a great experimental/progressive album. I dunno thats just me, but i think 2.5 is incrediby low. Your rationale would be cool. Once again, cheers m8
    August 15 09:11 PM
  • Torontonian For example, whenever my friends come over, who usually have zero/little music exposure. They see my vinyl collection (which is only about 50) and comment on how "hipster" or "underground" my music is when in reality its just porcupine tree or king crimson or some other decently recognized band . I find it quite funny actually.
    August 15 08:51 PM
  • Torontonian Nice. Thats a good idealogy to have as far as ranking system is concerned. And i'm finding that you are 100% right about music, in the sense there really is an immense amount of music out there. And its funny/ironic because as i'm exposed to more music i realise how much there really is to uncover. Kinda like "the more you know, the more you know you don't know" i guess. anyway cheers.

  • treeqt. (((eternal echo)))
    August 14 09:00 AM
  • Torontonian Just out of curiousity, how do you go about your rankings? Out of over 5000 albums you have 5'd only a handful. Out of those, the only one i've heard is BSASL (which is indeed magical, probs the most complex piece i've ever heard, not sure if i will ever fully understand it). But what gives those albums the edge over others albums that are also fantastic that you have lower ranks? Sorry if this was a little abrupt or random but i am extremely curious :)

    July 25 08:36 PM
  • Skull917 True, factors such as mood, knowledge, experience, place, equipment, your state of mind, even physical condition play a part. With the memory I can understand dealing with facts and general information but art just won't be very clear for long since you experience it, atleast for me, I have to go through it to refresh that. You are alright though, and since you were nagging me about Scaruffi, do you have any other sources for relatively good music?
    July 23 06:14 PM

  • GrandpaSeth3000 Ask any metal fan in the world and they'll tell you there's no band quite like Opeth. Since 1990, Opeth (Stockholm, Sweden)has been writing some of the most unique and extreme progressive metal ever created. With roots spanning from death metalto jazz and 70's progressive, Opeth is an extreme act like no other. Mikael Akerfeldt's voice shifts between the most soothingclean singing ever heard and the most menacing death metal growls this side of the threshold of hell.

  • ethos that 4.5 on dez anos despos though X) it's a game changer for sure but not sure how much yet for me. have the feeling this is the type of bossa nova album that's just going to keep growing with time the more i become acquainted with the melodies and tunes, it's sitting at a real weird spot right now for me cause it hasn't hit HARD off the bat like most of these type of jams do but has got me even more excited for that exact reason
    May 20 06:34 PM
  • ethos lmao, we'll see. i'm not huge on rating things i don't like anymore and never really have been to begin with, i'd rather let people know what stuff impacts me on a positive rather than slaughtering an attempt to create music and offending (lol) fans who dig it. that psyched3D brazil bro release rules for sure though from what i've heard (need to give it another listen soon). speaking of which.. ugh they locked up a certain account under a similar name recently ;~; RIP

  • ethos god, and sputnik's community has just been so s*** lately. i look on the front page and see "what are your most hated bands" or "do any new users (under 3 years) not suck" then start thinking to myself like what the **** has happened. i mean yeah it's the internet and we're gonna find this kind of pessimistic attitude anywhere but it never used to be like this. on top of all that a few of my friends have been in like NEAR suicide wah wah life suxx mode and coping/talking to them trying to ease
    May 10 07:41 PM
  • ethos reflective/secluded mood lately. all i listen to is a paper doll's whisper of spring, anima and like idk pretty much all my 5s. i need new music that kicks my ass badly. like so so so badly or im gonna jump out a window (jk lol) but yeah. i wanna head into more classical or **** i don't even know. i don't normally ask for recs but you're the people's champ and all (still) and ily so PLEASE throw me something that may just get my gay taco ass moving. i've never hit this kind of drought before :\
    May 10 07:35 PM
  • ethos down from kate bush/animal collective to arthur russell/vladislav/messiaen and it's so cool cause i've NEVER known anyone personally who's this open and willing to just listen to things and enjoy it for what it is/establish their own opinion on it. like just relaying thoughts and hearing feedback from someone who doesn't normally go hardcore insane on the listening grind is so refreshing to me lol. i'm having more fun giving her stuff than hearing things myself. i've been caught in just some mad
    May 10 07:31 PM
  • ethos as though i need to find something new and engaging quick. i've been listening to so so so much music lately, like relentlessly scavenging through stuff nonstop all day for the past week or two - and i found irrlicht/cam'ron/untranced (which wore off a lot on repeated listens) but idk man nothing's making me do a 180 like it used to. i recently made a friend and she's suuper cool with just hearing new stuff, like i've shown her so many albums within the past week or so im talking all the way
    May 10 07:28 PM
  • ethos some strange music vortex where if i go back and listen to something i once was absolutely obsessed by at a younger age - it just feels so transparent (?) idk. best way i can describe it is like maybe visiting a house you lived in as a child or walking the streets of an old neighborhood. the memories of being enthralled/living within it all are still there, but they can't be recaptured again - the old friends aren't within the same door you used to knock on. im not pissed or even sad, but i feel
    May 10 07:24 PM
  • ethos just something so specific about the mood it kinda held and the personality/attitude i gave out back when i found it 3 or so years ago that somehow cemented itself within me to carry up until now. like, man.. there's so many albums that have this effect on me (which is why you can prob recall me 5'ing EVERYTHING back in the day) but lately everything doesn't affirm/relate like it once used to. yeah, i mean im getting enjoyment back out of it but for the past three weeks or so i've been caught in
    May 10 07:17 PM
  • ethos it's so great, almost as if had you not listened to it on that particular moment in your music jamming life it wouldn't have presented itself to you in the truly proper/natural way it's capable of. speaking of which, like.. take for instance something you find WAYYYY back when you're young (i.e for me Jeff Buckley's Grace). i'm almost entirely sure that had i found that album around now i probably would have just fairly enjoyed it and passed it on to sift through something else, but there was
    May 10 07:13 PM
  • ethos ugh i had like a whole paragraph written out lmao but i lost it somehow. anyways, yeah.. exactly. you can't force those kind of listens and they really make all the difference. like i love when you just kind of "know" when THAT album's gonna make a huge impact - especially in releases more along the lines of Irrlicht, you get into that kind of languid/sleepy feeling (which can't be forced) and nothing else seems as though it will latch on as hard as those kind of releases will.
    May 10 07:09 PM
  • ethos first listen was late at night outside/under a tree at like 1 AM drifting off into sleep lmao, had NO idea what to expect before heading into it. can't even remember how i even came across it. other than the treble being super sharp on certain areas and for a moment or two waking me out of my sleep to think - "WTF did i just listened to??" (which i can't complain about now cause idk it kinda fits the mood) the song was near perfect
    May 8 01:48 PM
  • ethos i'm skeptical about pulling out this card already (i hope you don't take offense), but that first song may even out-transcend every single one of your field recordings :X and we all know how hard GiaNXGX and you were chilling in that improv/spiritual realm alley on that Erstlive '77 split
    May 8 01:31 PM
  • ethos LOL
    May 7 02:40 PM
  • Inhalation3 Do u even Gregory Porter? If not listen to it. Unless you dont like jazz...
