 | Ethics love it to death. can't wait to start drift
 | OmairSh Haha yeah having a decent conversation on sputnik/the internet without any expletives, noice. Yeah I know, it's the genre tag that bothers you more than the elements.
 | OmairSh And I think the tag "experimental" could be a turn off for a lot of music listeners. Its also an umbrella term and has many variants but it does give the impression that the music isn't following any song structure, and might not have many "catchy" melodies, etc. Maybe they wanted to avoid turning off many potential listeners, if they had even thought of the term back then.
 | OmairSh And your main gripe is with the word "progressive" being used to describe a genre that might not be doing much that is fresh or unheard of. Yeah in essence the word might be being misused, for example in Dream Theaters case. But it has become a genre tag now and like all genres, it has certain core elements which its bands adhere to. I guess you need to find the elitist who slapped the "progressive" label on this music style and give him (most definitely a 'him') a piece of your mind :P.
 | OmairSh So while every progressive album isn't transcending boundaries, it is adhering to the genre template that has been set. So you can just see the word being used to define what charactersitics the music will pertain, just like any other genre tag. They named it in the 70s and I guess it stuck :P. But moderate innovations have been brought throughout the years, and thats probably why 2 bands can sound extremely different but still be labelled progressive.
 | OmairSh Yeah I see your point since the word "progressive" means constant progress. But I guess it was a little more fitting back in the 70's when bands were writing innovative music for the time. But yeah in that sense the word might not be suitable, but now the words being used to describe a genre with certain characteristics, like all the genre tags.
 | OmairSh I think the discussion should be continued here :P. Okay I think the prog genre might not have "invented" a lot of the traits which are omnipresent in it currently, but it did incorporate them quite a bit. The Dream Theater point you made about DT copying previous bands, what are you saying? That since Dream Theater are copying old bands they shouldn't be called progressive?

 | Graveyard No need for apology dear sir, I'm glad you enjoyed the track and if you want more out of the trip-hop genre just check out my list: http://www.sputnikmusic.com/list.php?memberid=700722
 | Graveyard Wow, that sounds pretty swell based upon your description. I'm definitely putting them on my queue of artists atm and I'll let you know what I think.
 | Graveyard You should definitely check out DJ Krush, he has a wide array of influences that go outside the "trip-hop" label and most of his discography is pretty consistent. Also check out an artist that goes by the marker "Aim" and he as well puts out quality material: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=20H7AtPRuXg
