 | Rev That was referring more to how it's probably terrible haha :p. The sound is pretty derivative of my past stuff, with some new stuff thrown in, I guess
 | Rev Hey man! The bansheebeat full length drops next week and I was wondering if you'd be willing to give it a listen. It's probably not quite up your alley but I'd love to hear what you think of it
 | clercqie Idk, I was really looking forward to it, but it just seems like a recycling of LA beat ideas that others have done far better. Most of the songs don't compell all the way through their playing length either. Practically the same reason why I didn't like the Lapalux album all that much.
 | clercqie Looking forward to it! And maybe if we're talking regular pils, but the specialty beers can get you pretty baked. I'm speaking from experience. ;]
 | clercqie Ah good to hear! Yeah, Bruges is very touristy, but beautiful nontheless. Kinda like Prague actually. It's such a shame none of my friends like going out/clubbing, so tbh I haven't experienced the nightlife in Brussels yet. It really bugs me. The bars/cafés are very chill though, and the beer is nice. ;]
 | clercqie Hey man, how was your Belgian trip? Again, I'm sorry I couldn't make it, it's a shame...
 | mindleviticus And odd that you find Fullmoon to be the song that hits you every time because it's my least favorite song on the album. My favorite is Ringvanes
 | clercqie Lol no offence but I totally can understand why you hate it. Around here, that's pretty much the garbage-study for people who just want to go to college, but don't have any business there. I've nearly graduated in Physics and Astronomy. I only still need to do my Master thesis next year.
 | Rev Thanks bud, I'll hit you up for more after I get through those
 | clercqie Haha thanks. What are you studying?
 | Rev Yo jonny throw some recs my way
 | clercqie Yeah, starting from May 27. I'm terribly sorry man, I'm not trying to weasel out of it or anything. Kinda bummed about it myself... :[
 | clercqie Oh crap, I'm just kinda remembering that I have examinations coming up in June, so unfortunately I won't be available then. :-/
 | clercqie Lol, long away in Belgium. :p Ghent is around 35min from Brussels with the train. If you have 5 days, Antwerp is another big city that's interesting to visit (they have a zoo!). Or Liege, but that's in Wallonie, so I still have to get there myself someday.
 | clercqie And you could also come to Ghent if you have the time. It's the city were I study, so I know a lot more cool places here. ;]
 | clercqie The AB, Botanique and Handelsbeurs are to places to go for concerts of popular music. There are also a lot of bars with local bands, jazz and stuff, but I'm not all that familiar with them, sorry. The comic book museum is fun as well, and you can do the comic book walk which is a great way to explore the city centre. If you have the time, there's a cinema affiliated with the Rits, the biggest art school in Belgium, that plays nothing but old classics on the big screen.
 | clercqie Tbh, I'm not all that familiar with Brussels (shame on me, I know). The old city centre is great for a walk, and you'll get to see all the tourist stuff. Be wary of stands that sell chocolate, beer and stuff - if you want to try some, go to the supermarket and buy some Cote D'or chocolate. For beers, there are a lot of cafés in the area of the Grote Markt. Go to one in near the Galerie Royale. Some of my favorite beers are Tripel Karmeliet, Rochefort 10, La Chouffe and Gouden Carolus Tripel.
 | mindleviticus I'm gonna be listening to it for a while trying to decipher it
 | mindleviticus I don't know how hard it will hit me, so far it isn't hitting as hard as BBGT or Tryshasla but who knows? Maybe it'll hit REALLY hard hopefully. Regardless this deserves no less than a 4.5
 | mindleviticus You commented on my secede review about it and holy **** it's so ****in good
 | Omaha never really liked my username, and with my newfound staff powers I am higher on the totem pole, #yolo !!
 | geasoftime Have you heard Nightmare Ending? If so, I am downright envious.
 | Typhoner I hope you find the time or inspiration to finish that Krieg und Frieden review you were talking about, would be cool to have him covered, too
 | Casablanca dude, your truant review is spectacular. i'm gonna try doing the same thing one day if you don't mind
 | aok jus noticed your tag. a lil late but very deserved
 | Brostep I have no idea who ASC is, sorry
 | Brostep dude, congrats on contrib! have fun taking over where dev left off in the realm of electronic i don't listen to much. stinks that your burial review lost all its pos's though
 | Gyromania congrats on the promotion man! your writing has progressed a lot - that burial review of yours is legendary
 | Typhoner I liked your reviews (at least, the ones I read). Keep up the good work now you're promoted!
 | Eclecticist I haven't listened to Pattern Language enough to give a thorough critique but it's hard for me to give it very much love except for the fact that it's by A.M. Architect. They dropped my favourite part about them which is love super fresh, clean electric jazz guitar licks and smooth bass. Those brought depth to The Road To The Sun and I feel like Pattern Language is hollowed out for that reason and I know that their debut would not have been nearly as good without the real guitar and bass.
 | Eclecticist Did you hear what I mean when I said that their debut is the ****ing bomb?
 | Brostep Would you still like criticism for your latest review? I've been busy lately but I may find time to give some.
 | Rev jonny do you have any new digs? it's been a long time since i jammed anything new
 | mindleviticus Hey dawg is that blog that you told me about still open for new members?
 | Jash Thanks for listening man, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
 | mindleviticus I haven't heard any of those! Thanks I'll check them out. And I follow just random blogs; none that I can name off the top of my head
 | mindleviticus Hey Jonny, it's rec time! Check out Silent Harbour - Silent Harbour / Andy Stott - Merciless / Martin Schulte -Odysseia / Emeralds - Just To Feel Anything / Dron - Homeworld :D
 | Ethics Hey, I wrote another review. I remember you talking about wanting to read another if I ever got around to it and I really appreciated that... so - http://sputnikmusic.com/review/52013/maudlin-of-the-Well-Leaving-Your-Body-Map/
 | mindleviticus Also, they're one of the highest rated artists on discogs
 | mindleviticus I'm surprised cv313 isn't on this site... ever heard of them?
 | mindleviticus Also I have to leave for a bit, but I'll do it later.
 | mindleviticus Well if Indie-Folk is a part of it :| Perhaps. I want some drone. :]
 | mindleviticus Oh lol, Yeah I try to keep my classical and ambient seperate like I'll listen to Dvorak, Bach, Arvo Part, Tchaikovsky etc. and then I'll listen to Steve Roach, Mathias Grassow, Klaus Schulze, Demdike Stare etc.
 | mindleviticus I've already listened most of Alio Dies stuff. It's pretty damn amazing. I love Television Sky though and I talk to the guy who makes the music occasionally.
 | clercqie It's rare that an ambient album can hold my interest, so thanks again for the (kind of) rec! That Loscil album is also very good. Really relaxing stuff.
 | Hyperion1001 what are you're favorite electronic albums from this year? ive been spending way too much time listening to old things and am not really caught up with this years stuff
 | clercqie You don't happen to have a link for that Night Shift album, do you? :]
 | mindleviticus =O I hate it when I try to rec people stuff when they've already listened to it ;]
 | mindleviticus http://xcv-music.bandcamp.com/album/endless-surfaceI swear to god this is THE BEST AMBIENT ALBUM THIS YEAR
 | mindleviticus REC TIME! Check out Mika Vainio - FE3O4 Magnetite / Bruno Sanfilippo
 | mindleviticus Thanks bro, I still need to listen to a whole bunch of sh1t I have bookmarked, but I'll get back to you on those soon enough :]
 | clercqie Indeed, anything with lovely Tilda is gold (except for that Narnia flick, but let's forget about that one...). You mean the review or album? I'm still not over the fact that it's such a big letdown. Saw them live last week as well, and they were terrible. Gargh, all my favorite bands start to suck nowadays :[
 | clercqie Yeah but still... In any case, I'm glad I saw it when it was up, because the album is awesome :]
 | mindleviticus Yo, I keep hearing a whole lot about this Max Richter review/thread. Youd it and I don't know what happened? :[
 | clercqie Sorry for participating in the ruining your Max Richter thread, man. Things excalated way too much again :-/
 | mindleviticus http://eastgatesound.com/album/eikevThis is pretty sweet. You'd def like this
 | TheGardener Thanks so much, I'll check it out for sure :)
 | TheGardener Have you heard the newest album from 36? It's called Lithea; it's ambient/electronic/drone and it's one of my favourite albums of the year so far. I'd be interested to hear your opinions on it.
 | mindleviticus To be completely honest,I find with dubstep/ garage/ bass I can't really seem to get into it. For example I loved your Borealis review and I liked the songs, but I have a really hard time actually picking it up again and listening to it multiple times. Maybe I'm just crazy ;p
 | mindleviticus I feel like we're kind of balanced when you rec me new stuff and I rec you old stuff (old meaning like early 2000's late 1990's ;P)
 | mindleviticus Thanks for the recs, man. Really diggin' Eternal Sunset :)
 | mindleviticus Back with some sick recs, Jonny. Donnacha Costello - Growing Up in Public, Roll The Dice - In Dust, The Nautilus Project - Solid State Society, Nathan Fake - Hard Islands. These range from ambient, glitch, dub techno, minimal techno :]
 | BaselineOOO umm didn't really enjoyed his older stuff as much as his last, still lots of an albums to check.
 | aok shot you a note on fb . hit me back
 | Gyromania well in that case, thank you, good sir =]
 | bach Thanks for the ambient recommendations.
 | kingsoby1 i rec'd you for contrib, sorry you didn't make it. just keep writing well ( new releases) and you should get it soon enough
 | Gyromania I can't tell whether your post was meant to be sarcastic or not lol. I'll definitely check it out, but I'm super busy right now. Will look at it and give you some feedback when I get home in the morning =] Also, perhaps you can make contrib yet if you keep the reviews coming in the next couple to few weeks.
 | AGuyIsWatchingYou Was just listening to this and thought it might possibly interest you, it's this neat drone, (almost dark) ambient, psychedelic album. Plus it's free, what more could you ask for? http://fydhws.bandcamp.com/album/o
 | mindleviticus check out Zoviet France ? Mohnomisheit's so weird and creepy but it's amazing
 | mindleviticus thanks for the heads up, will check out soon after done Ruby My Dear and Noisia
 | mindleviticus Is that All is Silence? No, I haven't heard it yet. Is it as good as Nothing's of the North?
 | Xenophanes Robot music, eh?? That's what we're calling it now haha? I almost always enjoy your recs, so I really trust you on this. Once I get back from my vacation I will assuredly give a go, pal ; ). No it is my turn to find a genre to turn you onto hehe
 | aok http://www.thatsdeck.com/2011/09/smoke-room-vol2-zl-09.html so up your alley it's ridiculous. now what should i be listening to that's from this year?
 | mindleviticus Have you ever heard of The Detroit Escalator Co.? They are amazing and their album "Soundtrack [313]" is incredible.
 | mindleviticus Pleiadians ?? I.F.O.If you are into Goa/ Psytrance I highly recommend this album.
 | mindleviticus So have I, Ametsub -Nothings of the North, Pleq - Sound of Rebirth
 | BaselineOOO foobar2000 is foobar, you should just get a new version and try the last.fm plugin and make it work cuz without you last.fm feels so empty and cold
 | BaselineOOO http://www.blockcoders.net/wp-content/themes/blockcoders/images/posts/install.jpg
 | AGuyIsWatchingYou Just stalking, noticed you haven't reviewed/rated anything as of late.
 | BaselineOOO well I'll end my life soon so I should be more true to myself these days
 | BaselineOOO No really, iamamiwhoami is a 4.5 but I accidentally 1d it and now I'm too lazy to fix it. Will try the new Retral soon.
 | mindleviticus Scion - Arrange and Process Basic Channel Sooooo good. Check it out.
 | mindleviticus "Proem ?? Socially Inept" is so good, check it out if you haven't already
 | mindleviticus Oh yeah and I like that song untitled by beefcake. Real good ;p
 | kingsoby1 cant feature stuff in such quick succession. maybe in a few days.
 | mindleviticus and also you should check out "Uusitalo ?? Tulenkantaja" it's really really good
 | mindleviticus Hecq is amazing. If you're into weird electronica check out "Dino Felipe - Xanaconversex"
 | mindleviticus I've listened to a few songs of beefcakes in the past, just never got to raring it
 | mindleviticus I like your choice in music. Could you recommend me any ambient/glitch recs? That I could check out? You should check out Environments II by Future Sounds of London.
 | VlacDrac I love your lists, especially the ambient ones, they have lots of albums that i haven't heard of.
 | gosk8n Thats cool man i love art i work at a gallery do you have any other pieces
 | gosk8n Sweet profile picture where is that from?
 | Rev I've actually found it to be quite the opposite. Despite being a long time user of cannabis and hallucinogenics, I find "psy" genres (mainly the ones associated with electronic/dance music) to be extremely grating, and most of the fans are people who have no tripping experience whatsoever
 | Rev thanks. I have 76:14, Benn Jordan's stuff, and Solar Fields, will check out the rest. I actually really dislike electronic genres with the "psy" prefix, because they tend to suck and aren't actually psychedelic in the least (psytrance is the biggest offender) lol
 | Rev hey dude, what's up? i was wondering, since your ambient catalogue has far exceeded mine, I was wondering if you could throw me some recs? i'm really look for stuff that gives the vibe of being on an alien world, if you can kind of get the kind of thing i'm looking for (super vague i know :p). thanks!
 | Xenophanes Haha, I don't think you're a fat whore if it's any consolation ; ]As for the SJF record, I downloaded it but haven't yet listened to it. Is it good?
 | Xenophanes And yet you give it a 2.5. Whaddya doing givin' me your D-List recs man? I want the good stuf -_-
But yeah I'll give it a go. It's free, I dig the artist, and yeah it definitely sounds like my bag.
 | TheFonz123 again, it's vikki jackman-"of beauty reminiscing. i can provide you with a link if you like.
 | TheFonz123 Hey dude, you appear to be the ambient offical on the site right now so I have a proposition. There is an album I love called "of Beauty Reminiscing" by Vikki Jackman. i dont know how to add something to the database and it is one of my favorite ambient albums. great stuff. if you could add it to the database that would be fantastic. thanks
 | Graveyard if you need any post-punk recs, just let me know ;)
 | Days of Future Passed Just saw your "free music" list and went on a d/ling binge. The Colony/Akito Misaki album seems really interesting. Thanks dude!
 | TheGardener Just wanted to thank you for your review of Bersarin Quartett's II. Such an amazing album and I don't think I would have found it if you didn't write it. So thanks :p
 | Xenophanes I have not stopped listening to it since it dropped...so maybe its just Stockholm syndrome lol. But really, it succeeds as a substanceless piece of pretty music. So instead of me expressly enjoying it, I guess I'm saying that I find it "good enough" now that my initially disappointment has worn off
 | Xenophanes I'm actually beginning to come around to "Valtari"
 | Xenophanes Yeah i get what you mean. I attempt to talk to my friends about music and it almost always fails. Example, me going into great depth about my disappointment in the new Sigur Ros, only to have my friend say--they make music in Iceland?? We sputnikers are all we have lol
 | Xenophanes Haha, actually I was going to message you the same. I genuinely feel bad about posting a dickish critique earlier. I distinctly remember disagreeing with you about a winged victory, then eating my words later when I fell in love with it. So I will continue looking for what you see in that record. But what I'm really saying is, baby forgive me!
 | Deviant. You'll have to ask in the meds thread, staff don't have anything to do with that. We can only feature lists
 | AGuyIsWatchingYou I dunno, I'm just not seeing it, Mick even turned down the link and offered to wait for an official release. Maybe it's just my who position against thinking about the hype an album gets for fear of disappointment, kind of like what I've been doing with Fleet Foxes since forever. Oh well, I haven't even listened to the album yet but I've heard it's darker than their other releases. Any truth to that or is it just a rehash of the second half of ( )?
 | AGuyIsWatchingYou I don't think there's a hype train for an album that leaked in s***ty quality a few days ago....
 | Xenophanes he always manages to impress me. HBW is one of my favorite albums ever, and even 7 Idiots kinda blew my mind. Thanks man, I'll let you know what I think, even if you don't care what i think because that's how I roll.
 | Xenophanes Is the new WEG that soundtrack? If so, might I ask how you came across it?
 | Xenophanes Yeah I kind of hate that I agree with you in regards to the new Sigur Ros. While I'm not so harsh on it, it saddens me that my favorite band has disappointed me so badly. It's as if they took the most boring parts of ( ) by taking out all of the dramatic climaxes and made a short album out of it. There's no explosive or memorable moments...it's just flat and lacking in any sort of passion. I'm going to continue to listen hoping I feel something but goddamn
 | BaselineOOO Thanks, getting it. And yea I know who he is, he's pretty great.
 | BaselineOOO Starry Starry Night soundtrack? I'm looking for it for quite while but I can't find it anywhere so if you can send me a link I'd be grateful. I think I heard a compilation from them once but I'm not entirely sure which, had a similar album cover but I don't think I've heard this one, thanks.
 | breakingthefragile Hey man. Sorry about posting 7 reviews in a row, I just switched from reviewing music on Tumblr. to using Spunik, and I'm a complete newbie when it comes to this site. Those where all reviews I had previously written on Tumblr, and I just wanted to post them and get some reviews already posted on my profile to get started. I had absolutely no idea it would cause problems. No hard feelings? lol.
 | DeafMetal "The whole point of ambient, or at least the way it was envisioned, is that you can both listen to it passively and actively."... people who don't like ambient do not understand this key concept and i applaud you for drawing attention to it, as it is the cornerstone of what ambient/drone music truly stands for and encompasses...
 | ThroneOfAgony yeah same here. i typically like to listen to ambient during the winter and more dubstep/house/trance duringh the summer.
 | BaselineOOO I could say the same thing about The Romanovs.
 | BaselineOOO Your taste is pretty incredible, that Okkervil River album is brilliant, I feel so guilty for not loving it as much as I should.
 | cwhitMD Hey man, think you can email me? caseywhitman@muzikdizcovery.comI have an offer of a position for you.
 | Piglet do you live in melbourne?
 | Knott- Ha, no, I appreciate it. If you wanna let me know outside a public forum, just email editor@byvolume.co.uk - and you're definitely right. The thing is, starting up, I wanted - and do still want - people to feel as free as they can. But I definitely acknowledge the point you're making, and agree to a certain extent. I just have to find a way towards a healthy medium.
 | Knott- Yeah, it's interesting because I want to give people as much license as possible to express themselves; I think every writer we have is a top-notch reviewer with some genuine insights. But I recognise that it could at times feel like a collection of writers as opposed to one publication. Out of interest, which pieces would you say don't fit the tone? If you don't mind.
 | Knott- By "tone", you mean the tone of the actual writing, sí?
 | Omaha Fantastic! That makes me feel a lot better. :] I really appreciate you taking your time to discuss my review; I feel like I really learned a lot about my writing, what I like and don't like about it.
 | Omaha Hey man, I made some heavy edits on my review. If you would be interested in reading through it and seeing if the changes you mentioned have taken place, then I would be very appreciative. Cheers!
 | Cells When did I ever proclaim myself an anarchist? Never. Just because I said I like a girl that is rebellious doesn't mean you can assume that and doing so makes you look like an idiot. And what the **** are you saying? How is that a "hollywood belief"? Just because I have STANDARDS and PREFERENCES doesnt mean its a hollywood belief. If anything my preferences go against that of the hollywood archetype. Just stop being mad cuz YOU said something stupid and I pointed it out.
 | Tacitus BLAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH. TACITUS IS ALMIGHTY. ALL HAIL TACITUS. THE OMNIPOTENT BEING!!!!!!!!!!!!!
 | DaveyBoy Wild Beasts are clearly unique and original. No doubt about that. Unfortunately, I could only get into Two Dancers. There is something about Smother which is just too sterile for me. We clearly have different priorities in the type of music we like to listen to. I am glad we agree on this and can still give other types a try. And it definitely was not me who negged your review.
 | DaveyBoy In a Twilight Zone twist, when we were having that discussion on original music, I was about to mention Wild Beasts, as that is what I was listening to at the time. Lo and behold, I go to Smother and who reviewed it. Freaky.
 | balcaen you're on a ****ing roll with these reviews, man. nice work
 | ECRbubs you've got great taste, keep up the good reviews and if you want any recs just let me know.
 | demigod93 you seem like a pretty cool guy. welcome
