 | tiesthatbind Yeah I know that feeling, about 3 and a half years or so ago when I got into Dream Theater they were the first prog band that I'd gotten into and I was just blown away. I barely listened to any other band for a while, I went through their discography quickly and was impressed by the majority of their albums. Even though I enjoy other prog bands more nowadays, DT is where it all started for me.
 | tiesthatbind So yeah Panopticon is amazing. Looks like I've found another discography to explore!
 | tiesthatbind I've meant to listen to them but for some reason I never got to it. I'll definitely check that out, I haven't been excited about much new hard rock in a while so hopefully they can change that.
 | tiesthatbind Glad you're liking DT, I don't listen to them as much anymore (burned out on them unfortunately) but Scenes From a Memory is a brilliant album and still one of my all-time favorites. Riverside is definitely influenced by them. They pretty much took elements of a bunch of different prog bands including DT, PT, and Opeth and combined them all into a unique sound. I guess I'll check Panopticon first, thanks. Almost as good as Chevelle, eh? ;)
 | tiesthatbind If you want a Buckethead rec, for you I'd recommend Decoding the Tomb of Bansheebot, it's pretty metal-oriented but still melodic and one of his easier ones to get into. Now, which Isis album should I start with? I don't really have any experience with post-metal but I see Vheissu compared to them a lot and that's one of my favorite albums ever so I figure I need to give them a shot.
 | tiesthatbind Thanks man, yeah it took longer than I thought too, I know there could be more but if I did anything like that again it would be for individual bands or something, cause I just kept wanting to put more Riverside moments. You really do have more similar tastes to me than most users on this site, that hard rock/prog mix is something I don't see from many people on here.
 | tiesthatbind Check out my "favorite moments in music" list when you get the chance, pretty different overall but I have a few of the same ones you put on yours.
 | cb123 yeah i used to do that aswell until a lot of the mediafire links got taken down so kinda forced into trying out the others a bit more
 | Masochist Oh, man, ITCOTCK is something else entirely! If you dig Pink Floyd, you should, at the very least, be able to appreciate King Crimson, if not love them. Just watch out for the last 9-and-a-half minutes of "Moonchild." And if you like their first album, also check out 'Red'.
 | cb123 lol ok, weird :p filestube is usually a good place to search for things on filesharing sites ive found
 | bloc Haha, I'm not the one to ask when it comes to mainstream rock recs dude!
 | bloc It was really bad. Think all that crap played on the radio but several times more annoying.
 | ProfessorVeerappan you have off shot into so many other genre so thats why you cannot hear 1 full album in all also whatever it is of so much of Progression then have you heard Echolyn
 | macadoolahicky Hell yeah it does! I need to listen to it in full again before I rate it, though. It's actually on my to-buy list.
 | macadoolahicky Profile picture is just a random picture I found that had my mind trippin balls. My avatar is Bjork ^.^
 | tiesthatbind Yeah I'm really loving Oceansize right now, although I still prefer Effloresce to Frames by a bit. I'll check out that album, thanks for the rec.
 | fromtheinside better than ttot ans damn close to wwn. its theory best in years. mastodon and soad rifts everywjere
 | tiesthatbind If you like an epic rock sound (which it looks like you do) you'll be addicted by the time the second track finishes. And yeah, I actually started off here as a mainstream rock guy, but that's changed a lot these last couple years, I've been getting more and more into prog as of late. I've got Oceansize's first album and I like it a lot, so I'll definitely snag the rest of their discography pretty soon.
 | tiesthatbind Since you 5'd Deadwing, you should check out Riverside's Second Life Syndrome, you would love it.
 | DeadStarShine How dare you calling BB a s*** band when listening LP? You bastard . Hey, I'm kidding! But seriously, it's like me, who occasionally listen to Simple Plan, started trashing out Yellocard for being too teenagerish. I'll have to listen to the album you rec me. But actually I'm more turned into alternative stuff now. Things like Radiohead, Anberlin, Parades. Try Parades, they're a surpisingly good thing around now.
 | DeadStarShine That sound like me at times. Speaking about reviews, I've just submitted one on Breaking Benjamin's best of, if you wanna take a look.
 | DeadStarShine I definitely see some similarities. The obvious difference is that you write one for pretty much every album you rate LOL. I see we have some bands in common too.

 | bry11 Thanks for the recommendation, I have heard a few songs off the new Alice In Chains but haven't yet actually sat down and played the whole album through. I will check it out. By the way, awesome review on Sci-Fi Crimes
