    July 11 05:32 PM
  • Atari Sweet man i've never heard the Chateau tapes so should be interesting! i also haven't jammed Tull in a while cause i've been going through a black metal/ambient phase but i'll be sure to check it out when i get the chance ;)
    July 10 04:56 PM
  • Atari yeah i know you're talking about the jethro tull album haha but i thought you meant steven wilson did his own version of the passion play and not just a remix/remaster. Do you like it better than the original?
    July 10 04:42 PM
  • Atari sweet man i appreciate the rec! i actually haven't heard steven wilson before should i get acquianted with his other stuff before trying his take on passionp lay?
    July 10 04:31 PM
  • Jethro42 I'll probably end up to buy it in a record store.
    July 10 04:13 PM
  • Jethro42 I'll try to find it somewhere. The thing is that I dont have much place to find torrents anymore. They're almost all closed for the good.
    July 10 04:09 PM
  • Atari it's all good just curious. Just don't forget to share your thoughts once you give it a go :D
    July 10 04:07 PM
  • Jethro42 This sounds interesting. Do you have a link for me?
    July 10 04:01 PM
  • Atari dude have you had the time to check out musk ox - woodfall yet? I'm curious to hear what you think
    July 10 03:39 PM
  • CaptainDooRight Thanks JT, I would be most appreciative of that.
    July 2 04:34 PM
  • Atari no worries man, it's not often i find something i think you might dig (usually it's the other way around) but i know you like ambient and folk so figured it might be something you'd enjoy ;) I just discovered it yesterday so i haven't even listened enough to rate myself, but it's definitely solid
    July 2 03:46 PM
  • Atari hey man i have a rec for you. Check out Musk Ox -Woodfall. I could really see you digging it, it's all instrumental but man is it a beautiful album
    July 2 03:09 PM
  • Inhalation3 Germany vs ghana, not portugal
    June 21 05:04 PM
  • Inhalation3 i stick with my fly as hell statement
    June 21 05:02 PM
  • Inhalation3 Pretty sure Germany have always been playing against Ghana man, but whatever
    June 21 05:00 PM
  • Inhalation3 what do u mean?
    June 21 04:58 PM
  • dannyboy89 Having said that, I do like Skid Row, which I haven't jammed in a while. Need to check the debut and jam the sophomore properly.
    June 6 10:55 PM
  • dannyboy89 But that's just my opinion, and I respect yours.
    June 6 05:57 PM
  • dannyboy89 I used to like GN'R in the past, but as I got into other music, I kinda listened to them less and less. While I understand their place in music history (which is huge undoubtedly), I kinda find them to be overrated. Ofc that's just my opinion. As for Slash, well, I dislike the wah-wah sounds he makes on some of his leads. They're just annoying to my ears.
    June 6 05:55 PM
  • dannyboy89 As for the 60's, I'm not quite as picky, but some stuff from that era kinda feels dated for me, so I like to stick to the bands from that era that appeal the most. I do like to make connections in terms of what influenced what (as you must've gathered by now), but at the same time I don't like to listen to bands just because they were influential.
    June 6 02:14 AM
  • dannyboy89 I mean bands like Queensryche and Megadeth (products of the 80's) are among my faves, but I'm rather picky when it comes to the 80's.
    June 6 02:09 AM
  • dannyboy89 Well the 90's are my fave decade, followed by the 70's, and then the 60's and 80's are about even for me due to the fact that I don't generally jam as much stuff from those decades as I do the others. I guess you're more familiar with 2010's stuff than I am, given that I'm picky with what I check from the 2000's onwards.
    June 6 02:06 AM
  • dannyboy89 Are the 70's your fave decade? you always seem to be a 70's guy at heart.
    June 5 06:45 PM
  • BigPleb Haha, you are a clever one Mr Anderson ;]
    June 4 01:08 PM
  • BigPleb Damn it dude, sack going out HAVE YOU SEEN HOW MANY TIMES I'VE JAMMED IT?!?!
    June 4 01:01 PM
  • BigPleb The first 2 minutes or so are progressive gold with some of Axe's best drumming yet. Then it settles into a more melodic keyboard groove with some awesome layered vocals. Its like Heritage with teeth basically, so cool.
    June 4 12:58 PM
  • BigPleb Good lord you are gonna love the leaked Opeth track honestly man, makes Cusp looks so average. I know thats not saying much man but its like a more melodic progression of Heritage, Axe brings the grooves like a master and the keyboard playing is superb.
    June 4 12:51 PM
  • danielcardoso But only if you REALLY have time to spare, because it's a very long review, undoubtly my longest yet. Anyway, I'd appreciated if you read it and gave some feedback. Take care, man.
    June 3 03:06 PM
  • danielcardoso Hey, Jamie. I hope you're doin' alright. I noticed that you listed Guns n' Roses in your "Favorite Bands" list, and that made me wonder how you feel about Chinese Democracy. It's probably their most controversial record. And it's true that it's more an Axl Rose solo album than a proper Guns one, but I still find it quite an excellent effort. I want to know what's your general opinion on it. If you have some time, I was hoping you could the review I wrote for it.
    June 3 03:04 PM
  • Underflow Just realized that you and I actually agreed on something relating to Opeth. An omen?
    June 2 02:15 PM
  • Keyblade Yep, seems like he's gonna continue his other projects. Good excuse to finally get into some of them I guess. There's a lot of his material I need to check out asap
    June 1 01:56 PM
  • Keyblade Wow that sucks, would've liked to hear more from him. Still need to hear Twin Beaks too. Cheers dude
    June 1 08:28 AM
  • dannyboy89 What's your fave Iron Maiden song, if any?
    May 31 06:28 PM
  • dannyboy89 Yeah, you definitely like DT more than I do, it's not hard to see. I've been familiar with FW for quite some time, and so far I'd say they did some cool stuff, but I don't see myself fanboying over 'em as much as I do with other bands.
    May 31 05:43 PM
  • dannyboy89 Btw, which do you like most out of Fates Warning and Dream Theater?
    May 31 05:25 PM
  • dannyboy89 Queensryche's one of my favourite bands, as you've prob gathered by now, so I guess I can be more than a bit biased towards them.
    May 31 04:27 PM
  • dannyboy89 Yeah, they were amazing. Too bad they don't get discussed enough on the site. They were sort of like a "dream team" in the hard rock world imo.
    May 29 02:25 PM
  • dannyboy89 Do you consider yourself a Deep Purple fan?
    May 29 03:24 AM
  • dannyboy89 Btw, I agree with you that Come Taste the Band is quite underrated. It has to be heard for what it is (as some albums need to be) as opposed to listening to it in light of Mk. II material.
    May 29 12:29 AM
  • dannyboy89 Since Floyd, Genesis and Priest were all influences of Queensryche, I kinda felt it logical that Gabriel influenced Tate. Maybe we've had different listening experiences, I dunno.
    May 28 10:49 PM
  • Mad. Yo, I reviewed this album, I think you'd dig - it's a bit like Wolf People which I saw you reviewed, and one of 2014's best: http://www.sputnikmusic.com/review/62462/Messenger-Illusory-Blues/
    May 25 07:28 PM
  • Voivod Jamie, the Ian Anderson album is streaming here - http://www.progstreaming.com/_wb/pages/play-album.php?activeAlbum=00744 - Ian Anderson - Homo Erraticus. Put the link to your review's introductory post like whenever. Cheers!
    May 25 06:52 AM
  • dannyboy89 It's kind of a shame that DP doesn't get as much attention on Sput as they should.
    May 24 05:31 AM
  • dannyboy89 Yeah, it was pure curiosity. I've never been to anywhere in Europe, so it'd be sweet to do some sightseeing someday.
    May 22 02:51 PM
  • dannyboy89 Have you been to Scotland and/or Wales? What's it like?
    May 22 02:48 AM
  • dannyboy89 That might explain why I can listen to metal, prog, alt-rock and pop without any issues. I can easily be in the mood for one or the other. But everyone's different.
    May 22 02:46 AM
  • dannyboy89 Yeah, I definitely get the impression that we look for different things in music (like everyone does). It's kinda hard for me to put into words what I look for, but for now I'd say eclecticism, energy and/or emotionality, depth, introspection, something that hits psychologically, riffs, and kickass leads ofc. Musicianship certainly helps, although I don't value it so much on technicality as I do on flow, uniqueness and stuff.
    May 22 02:44 AM
  • dannyboy89 How'd you get into Jethro Tull?
    May 18 01:30 AM
  • dannyboy89 I think I already said this, but Priest is one of the bands that has inspired me the most when it comes to guitar. If anything, they've come to inspire me more, riffs like those on Sad Wings and lead work like that on Beyond the Realms of Death inspires me hard. But hey, I'm a fanboy.
    May 18 01:29 AM
  • dannyboy89 It's amazing how well those riffs on Sad Wings sounded though. I'm pretty biased when it comes to Priest, they're one of my Top 10 bands, even if their post SC stuff has grown off me for the most part.
    May 17 07:54 PM
  • dannyboy89 Yeah, it's all opinion. It'd be boring if we all had the same favorites anyway.
    May 17 07:36 PM
  • dannyboy89 I get the impression that you're a bigger prog fan than metal fan. Also, what makes VoC your fave Priest song? I slightly prefer Tyrant, but it's in my Top 5 for sure.
    May 17 04:40 PM
  • danielcardoso Yeah, nice to see you like it too, it's much different than his work with bon jovi and it's pretty good. Nice to see him pursue his blues influences, it's quite a good result.
    May 14 01:54 PM
  • danielcardoso Hey Jamie, hope all is well. I know you dig your blues a lot, so I think you'd want to hear "Stranger In This Town", by Richie Sambora. It's from his first solo album. If you have time to listen to it, I think you'd really enjoy it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KBGV9jM_TQ4Take care, man.
    May 14 01:29 PM
  • dannyboy89 Fair enough dude.
    May 13 04:32 PM
  • dannyboy89 Out of curiosity, why do you dislike bands like DEP and TMV?
    May 13 03:08 PM
  • dannyboy89 We do seem to have similar views on old-school prog, classic metal, and thrash. But yeah, there are bound to be slight differences even there. To change the subject, I really want to work on my guitar skills a bit, given that I have a passion for music.
    May 7 05:17 PM
  • dannyboy89 I know you get along well with zak, Pleb and foxxxy even though they all love grunge about as much as I do, so I don't think that should affect our discussions too much.
    May 6 07:43 PM
  • dannyboy89 Yeah man, I'm a big grunge fan, particularly with Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and Alice in Chains. It's not for everyone though, so I can understand why you wouldn't like it. I kinda feel grunge revived the spirit of late 60's-early 70's hard rock, but that's just my opinion. And yeah, not a big fan of glam, I only care for a few bands like Dokken, Skid Row and Tesla, I just find glam to detract from the qualities I love about rock n' roll. I used to love it, but it grew off for the most part.
    May 6 07:41 PM
  • dannyboy89 I saw on a thread that you think Page is slightly overrated. I agree, he definitely complimented Zep well and was key to their sound, but I'm not that big on his lead playing.
    May 4 12:20 AM
  • OmairSh I hate Chelsea mainly because they beat Barca a couple of years back in the UCL semi's, won't ever forgive them it seems :P. I can see why you wouldn't like Atleticos style. They play well on the counter, and have some good silky passing abilities, but as the seasons progressed they've gotten a little sloppy. Their pressing is relentless and that's the part people dislike the most I think.
    May 3 03:53 PM
  • OmairSh I fvcking hate chelsea. I'm hoping for Atleti to pull the double. I've been rooting for them since the start of the season. It's been such a remarkable turn around for the team over the past 2.5 years
    May 2 09:23 PM
  • dannyboy89 Alrighty.
    May 1 01:38 AM
  • OmairSh ATLETICOOOOOOO MAAAADRIIIIIIIIIIIDDDD
    May 1 01:28 AM
  • dannyboy89 Dude, I have to ask, what are some of the traits you look for in a drummer? You seem to lean towards the more technical dudes, whereas I tend to prefer drummers with a less formal approach.
    April 30 10:13 PM
  • BigPleb It better! Just gonna fawn over how ****ing good Scenes is until then :]
    April 30 06:15 PM
  • BigPleb I'm so jealous Dad :[. Would love to see all the insert art, always knew that album would have much more interesting than what was displayed on the cover.
    April 30 05:58 PM
  • BigPleb Aw man, I've ordered it too cos yano its 'Peth! Does it looks nice? Ugh dude, I want it now! Wahhh :[
    April 30 03:05 PM
  • dannyboy89 I've come to think that they accomplished one of the biggest leaps in rock n' roll history, and I wouldn't say they're my fave band, although they'd make my Top 20.
    April 30 03:48 AM
  • dannyboy89 Yeah, I guess it was a misunderstanding.
    April 30 02:15 AM
  • dannyboy89 I hope I haven't offended you or anything dude. On another note, jamming Vanilla Fudge and Blue Cheer was pretty interesting, it really helped me understand just how important Black Sabbath was to rock n' roll history.
    April 30 12:39 AM
  • BigPleb Ye Dad, definitely check her LP Visions. One of my fave records ever :]
    April 28 05:57 PM
  • BigPleb Well, I obv love the new artwork haha. Hopefully its reflective of the music cos there is a HUGE Ghost Reveries vibe going on, hope its like a hybrid of Heritage and GR!
    April 28 05:56 PM
  • BigPleb Seen the artwork for new Opeth, daddy? :]
    April 28 05:33 PM
  • OmairSh Fvck https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_57e0mUcAE
    April 28 04:50 PM
  • dannyboy89 Having said that, it wouldn't hurt to check Then Play On, and see if I get your love for Peter Green.
    April 28 02:50 PM
  • dannyboy89 Yeah I guess we have slight differences with regards to our taste in guitarists, and perhaps on how much impact they might've had in music. I respect emotion, but don't quite consider it indispensable, however, I don't like guitarists that feel too mechanical ofc. But hey, opinions.
    April 28 02:47 PM
  • danielcardoso http://www.sputnikmusic.com/review/62003/Bon-Jovi-These-Days/
    April 25 07:00 AM
  • danielcardoso Hey Jamie, what's up? If you have the opportunity, i'd like you to check out the review i wrote for "these days" from bon jovi. I'd like to hear what you think. Stay well man ;)
    April 25 06:59 AM
  • CaptainDooRight Thanks man. The iPhones photo ability is pretty dece. Looking forward to seeing your pictures if you decide to share.
    April 19 04:54 PM
  • Onirium Sadly I don't have access to Spotify here in Canada... I guess I'll have to buy the album; I would probably have bought it anyway but I wanted to hear it before. I've heard excerpts from it on AllMusic, and it sounded really cool (for a 60-year old musician trying to reproduce his band's golden sound of the 70s). Thanks anyways!
    April 19 04:49 PM
  • dannyboy89 Yeah, it's def food for thought. When you look at it, the band's 70's era is very different and, in a sense, hard to compare to their 60's era.
    April 19 04:38 PM
  • Onirium Do you know if there's any stream for the new Ian Anderson? I can't find it anywhere... And you kind of have the reputation of being a Tull expert, so I thought you might be able to answer my question
    April 19 04:35 PM
  • dannyboy89 How do you think Floyd would've been remembered if they had stopped releasing albums after Meddle?
    April 19 04:18 PM
  • CaptainDooRight I honestly think you'll like my new album: http://completefreedom.bandcamp.com/album/exit
    April 19 03:01 PM
  • dannyboy89 Interesting. Well I'm a certified history teacher and am currently doing my MA in History. I'm considering studying anthropology in the future as well.
    April 18 04:10 PM
  • dannyboy89 Yeah man, everyone has a pet peeve. Having said that, I admire your skill in presenting your points skillfully and in detail. Not everyone has that. What field are you studying?
    April 18 02:14 PM
  • dannyboy89 I guess we slightly disagree on Heritage, but to each their pwn dude. At least we both like it.
    April 18 08:03 AM
  • dannyboy89 It happens. The world isn't perfect. Also, I jammed Agalloch today, and I gotta say Pale Folklore is pretty awesome.
    April 17 11:46 PM
  • CaptainDooRight ok cool. Well the new ep is only 4 tracks long and on either the first or second track i give a shout out to Fripp, Eunuch, and you because it came into my mind at that particular moment when i was recording. I haven't uploaded the tracks yet but album name, tracklisting, and art is already up on this site.
    April 17 03:03 PM
  • CaptainDooRight That's cool appreciate your honesty. I finished an EP for complete freedom yesterday and just need to finish mixing. Not sure if you'll like it more but you prolly won't know if you don't listen. But if you don't want to I respect that too
    April 17 02:11 PM
  • CaptainDooRight im only asking because i went back and listened to all the songs and enjoyed a lot of them, ill def the ones i didn't like tho
    April 17 01:57 PM
  • CaptainDooRight wait but honestly you didn't like the vocals bro cuz i really like some of them on the previous stuff. Like i won't have it too high in the mix tho but i feel the vox really added to the emotion and atmosphere like on the first track on the first lp with the praying mantis cover, thoughts? like do you have an example of what you didn't like specifically
    April 17 01:49 PM
  • CaptainDooRight oh right on cool, glad you had a chance to check it, yeah man i won't make complete freedom all stupid and stuff ill just be focusing on expressions my emotions and stuff and let loose a little more you know without being all serious all the time and shii, but itll still be a 110% serious project tho, itll just be more free in everyway possible
    April 17 12:48 PM
  • dannyboy89 Pretty s***ty tbh. We've been pretty much swamped economically for over 5 years (perhaps 6 or 7 years). It doesn't help that our politicians do nothing to improve things and, if anything, they have tended to make things worse.
    April 17 02:19 AM
  • dannyboy89 Alrighty dude. Changing the subject a bit, how's the British economy doing?
    April 17 01:54 AM
  • dannyboy89 Ofc, that depends on the album's composition too. Can't judge a 5-tracker, an 8-tracker, and a 12-tracker the same way.
    April 16 11:37 PM
  • dannyboy89 Anyways, to go further in depth with the rating thing. My 5's, (at least nowadays) have to be albums with no weak links or maybe a least-strong track that I don't skip. My 4.5's have to be very consistent as well. However, a 4 can have 1-3 skippable tracks. More than that though, and it gets a 3.5 or a 3.
    April 16 11:32 PM
  • dannyboy89 Not for nothing man, but I think the fact that you're British and I'm Puertorrican might have to do with our differences in perspectives. Brits, particularly Englishmen/women seem to have a reputation for a dark sense of humour, being a tad distant, etc. We, on the other hand, tend to be emotional, impulsive, carefree, etc. So I think cultural difference might play a role in our differences. Just sayin'.
    April 16 08:46 PM
  • CaptainDooRight also, can you please not go, i don't think that's polite
    April 16 01:32 PM
  • CaptainDooRight oh no im way past that bro, im 29 now. and yeah ill keep it honest i mean itll basically be an expiremental project. im honestly gonna just focus on what ive always envisioned with music with it while balancing my other projects, ive always wanted to keep an expiremental thing going so itll be nice to do something without expectations, i just wanna keep it honest you know which ill do
    April 16 01:31 PM
  • CaptainDooRight bro you'll prolly be pissed but im gonna bring back complete freedom and the number one rule will be no metronome its a expiremental and free thing but i promised Dev i wouldn't rate it, review it, or promote it stupidly, im thinking just one list for it and that's it, if peeps wanna check it they can but i just need a musical outlet to expand my beliefs of music, thoughts? cuz only your opinion matters honestly
    April 16 12:42 PM
  • Underflow I'm expecting a 4.5/5 review of the new Ian Anderson album within the week!
    April 15 10:07 PM
  • MisterTornado i've been meaning to listen to diamond dust again, something tells me i missed something on those first few listens...
    April 15 08:57 PM
  • dannyboy89 All their first 3 are flawless imo, so a good case can be made for any of them as far as I'm concerned. Having said that, I think our views on Opeth have become pretty similar, albeit with a different favourite. demi and Crysis also seem to hold similar opinions.
    April 15 04:04 PM
  • MisterTornado on my list, going too V soon! this might be my favorite venn rain yet...
    April 15 02:17 AM
  • dannyboy89 Just between us, Morningrise is rather overlooked as well. Man, that album rules so hard, and yet I've seen a couple of rankings placing it outside the Top 5.
    April 15 02:04 AM
  • dannyboy89 Man, it's appalling to see how criminally overlooked Orchid is in this site. It's my fave Opeth album atm, I love the diversity on it. Mid-era Opeth fans seem to be the overwhelming majority on this site. The fact that Orchid has a 3.7 average is disgusting imo.
    April 15 02:03 AM
  • MisterTornado ahh twin beaks is gorgeous! ~
    April 14 10:05 PM
  • menawati thats def one of the weaker tracks, find puer ferox adventus if its around anywhere
    April 14 05:53 PM
  • menawati I'll leave it jamie, hope you get round to it though it's really decent, feeling like a 4 to me only after a couple of listens
    April 14 12:15 PM
  • menawati just listening to the new ian anderson, sounding really good, are you going to do a review ? if so i'll not do one since you'll probably do it more justice
    April 14 06:58 AM
  • dannyboy89 He sure was a force to be reckoned with. In quite a few ways, he definitely ranks among metal's most unique personalities. He was kinda like the Achilles of metal I guess. He had a short life, but few people can claim to have single-handedly made so much impact on the sub-genre. He was Death, and Death was him. Great songwriter, great lyricist, amazing rhythm guitarist, the man was truly something special.
    April 13 03:09 AM
  • dannyboy89 How do you think Chuck Schuldiner managed to maintain such solid songwriting for so long?
    April 12 07:01 PM
  • dannyboy89 And I agree that Heritage is awesome as well. I love the jazzy elements on there.
    April 9 05:26 PM
  • dannyboy89 I'd say I'm more into Opeth now than I was in the past. Back when I thought BWP was their best, I wasn't really that much into them. But after realizing how much better the first 3 albums are, they've risen more in standing for me in comparison to other bands I jam.
    April 9 05:25 PM
  • Graveyard Ilyas Ahmed is one of my favorite folk musicians. Check out "With Endless Fire" if you haven't.
    April 9 05:22 PM
  • dannyboy89 BTW, did you recently bump down BWP. Not that it bothers me really, that album is very overrated imo.
    April 9 03:20 AM
  • dannyboy89 I only heard like the first few seconds, and that was it. Prob didn't even make it to the first minute.
    April 9 01:42 AM
  • dannyboy89 Yeah, that'd be Hans. He's got all their first 5 albums 5'ed. Ofc I can understand, it was a big part of his life. But yeah, they get bumped a lot. The last song that came out was pretty meh imo.
    April 9 01:16 AM
  • dannyboy89 I never took you for a Metallica fanboy. I will admit that their first 3 records are rock solid, but I def like 'Deth and Anthrax more because I find their music more appealing. I'll admit that 'Tallica certainly knew how to come up with interesting song structures.

  • dannyboy89 Well, we can't agree on everything. Out of curiosity, does the fact that Bruford has a jazzy feel have to do with him being one of your faves?
    April 4 01:26 AM
  • dannyboy89 On another note, I can't say I'm a big Yes fan. I respect their legacy, but Anderson's vocals annoy me, plus I prefer the "smoothness" of bands like Floyd, KC and Genesis. Generally speaking, I don't dig high-pitched vox much, although I feel some vocalists (like Tate in his prime, and the same for Halford) knew how to execute it properly. My opinions in that regard do seem to be in the minority though.
    April 3 02:46 PM
  • dannyboy89 At the very least, those albums I mentioned have nary a weak track imo. Caress of Steel does have a weak track, and Permanent Waves is prob untouchable.
    April 3 07:28 AM
  • dannyboy89 Well, if we're talking lyrics, then I might side with you, since I seldom listen to Rush for the lyrics, whereas PF's lyrics are pretty much unavoidable (dunno if that made sense). However, in terms of producing the least filler, well, I wouldn't be too sure.
    April 3 02:42 AM
  • dannyboy89 I love both bands hard tbh, it's like picking a fave child to me. Both are at least Top 20 in my book. I even saw Rush live (which I think I've said a couple of times) and they're phenomenal in that realm. Plus, I think Rush's songwriting is pretty hard to beat, at least on AFtK, Hemi and MP.
    April 2 03:46 AM
  • dannyboy89 I get the impression that you're a bigger Floyd fan than Rush fan.
    April 1 06:56 PM
  • dannyboy89 Btw, I'm fairly familiar with the Big 4 of Jazz Fusion (Herbie Hancock, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Weather Report and Return to Forever) but I think I've only jammed albums from the first 2, and not really enough to appreciate them. I've also listened to Charles Mingus and Miles Davis, but only superficially. So while I do have an interest in jazz, I can't say I've exploited it.
    March 30 08:12 PM
  • dannyboy89 Tbh I think Nero and facupm are bigger prog-metallers than I am.
    March 30 05:35 PM
  • dannyboy89 balance between sweetness and savoriness, between solid musicianship and restraint. Plus, I worship Tate's vocals, even if he is a douchebag. I believe his voice isn't as good as it used to be though.
    March 30 05:08 PM
  • dannyboy89 One of the things I love about Queensryche is that, in their heyday, they had fairly well-constructed songwriting and great-if-subtle musicianship. Chris DeGarmo is one of my favourite guitar players, sadly the band won't be the same without him. One of the things I don't like about much prog-metal (at least what I've heard) is the overly sweet sound of much of that music, it really irks me. That's why I can't stand Pain of Salvation, for instance. For me, Queensryche knew how to strike a

    March 30 01:54 PM
  • dannyboy89 I like jazz actually, it's just that I rarely make time to listen to it. Other than rock, pop is prob my 2nd most listened to genre. I like hip-hop as well, although I'm very picky there. But music is a journey, not a destination.
    March 30 11:47 AM
  • Voivod Hey Jamie, I think this is right up your alley (Blues based Sabbath rock) - http://www.terrorizer.com/news/streams/stream-graviators-new-album-motherload-terrorizer/
    March 30 04:07 AM
  • dannyboy89 We obviously have a few differences in taste. We both dig prog, metal and classic rock, but I like alt-rock whereas you don't. And I love experimental-type bands, whereas you seem to be picky on that. And ofc, no one can agree on everything, so idk, but I just wanted to point it out. I also don't care much for technicality tbh, I look for other virtues in a musician, for me technicality is complimentary rather than essential.

  • BigPleb Drinks on Sunday sucks :[. Ian does rule though, Tull hard :D
    March 29 04:49 PM
  • BigPleb You having a drink tonight for Ian? :p

  • BigPleb DADDY :D
    March 29 03:08 PM
  • evilford whoa you got contrib, congrats dude you deserve it
    March 28 06:16 PM
  • dannyboy89 I despise dubstep though, **** Skrillex.
    March 28 05:56 PM
  • dannyboy89 I'll check 'em eventually. I'm no electronic music buff, but I do like some pop music, so getting into some electronica should be easy for me.
    March 28 05:56 PM
  • dannyboy89 Anyways, I see you rated two BoC albums. They seem to be pretty popular on this site.
    March 28 05:10 PM
  • dannyboy89 I'm one of the few who likes Queensryche's post-PL output, although it's obviously not on the same level, but we all have our guilty pleasures. OMC is pretty mediocre though, and DtC was really embarrassing.
    March 28 03:31 PM
  • dannyboy89 And yeah, I like PT, Opeth, and Queensryche way more than DT.
    March 28 02:34 PM
  • dannyboy89 WaCF*.
    March 28 02:31 PM
  • dannyboy89 Anyways, was jamming VH lately, and I gotta say, their songwriting wasn't all that great. My fave atm is W
    March 28 02:20 PM
  • dannyboy89 With regards to PT, I've been into them for perhaps 2 years or so, although I came to appreciate their work more in recent times. But I've always felt that they experimented more with their music, which I applaud. With DT, I feel they didn't really do much other than a rehash of their influences. And I don't dig LaBrie's vocals either. But obv we have differences there, and I welcome that difference. You don't seem to be the type to get offended when someone criticizes a band you like.
    March 27 10:22 PM
  • dannyboy89 I guess we have different ideas of what makes a great musician.
    March 27 09:53 AM
  • dannyboy89 If we're talking drummers, some of my faves are (out of order) Matt Cameron, Gar Samuelson, John Bonham, Jimmy Chamberlin and Neil Peart. There are others I could add but there's a sample.
    March 27 09:31 AM
  • dannyboy89 Dude, I'm starting to think that Discipline is rather overrated on this site. It's not all bad, but it just drags more than it should.
    March 27 12:45 AM
  • dannyboy89 Let's change the subject dude. I'm jamming ItWoP atm, and it's a fantastic KC record. Some great musicianship (although musicianship was generally KC's forte, at least on IttCK, Red, LTiA and Lizard).
    March 26 04:35 PM
  • dannyboy89 Portnoy doesn't impress me all that much tbh, I think his playing is wooden and mechanical. I usually like my drummers to have a free-flowing style, aggresiveness and good tone. IMO he has none of those 3, but to each their own.
    March 26 04:20 PM
  • rockandmetaljunkie Btw, I forgot to congratulate you for Man Utd's result against Olympiacos. It came as no surprise to me.
    March 26 01:40 PM
  • rockandmetaljunkie Hello Jamie, I came to say goodbye. Right now I'm at a hotel in Sri Lanka and tomorrow morning I will board to the vessel. We will talk again after 6 months. I wish you luck.
    March 26 01:37 PM
  • dannyboy89 I guess I feel about DT more or less the same way you feel about PT. Nevertheless, I'll jam Awake and maybe Scenes these days and see how that affects my opinion. And yeah, I'm one of the few who criticizes DT on the site, but some diversity of opinion is necessary.
    March 26 01:31 PM
  • dannyboy89 I'd say atm that I'm the other way around with Satriani and Petrucci, but it's all opinion. I just don't identify with his leads. And I think Portnoy is a meh drummer as well. More or less how I feel about Lars Ulrich, 'cept I'd prob be likely to jam Metallica more often than DT.
    March 26 02:32 AM
  • dannyboy89 He was great def, although I'm not sure he'd make my Top 10. Do you think Petrucci's an overrated guitarist?
    March 25 08:04 PM
  • dannyboy89 BTW, you seem to really dig Andy Latimer, and I know that you like Gilmour a lot (his playing was phenomenal imo). Hackett was a solid player too.
    March 21 12:12 AM
  • dannyboy89 Priest definitely appeals more to me on guitar than Maiden, although it could be said that Maiden have generally been better songwriters. Priest was one of the reasons why I wanted to learn guitar, although it took me the longest time to realize that their 70's stuff was best.
    March 21 12:10 AM
  • dannyboy89 What about Adrian Smith and Dave Murray?
    March 19 11:10 PM
  • dannyboy89 I'm a huge fan of 'em, but I think I get you.
    March 19 04:44 PM
  • dannyboy89 Where do Glenn Tipton and KK Downing rank for you as guitarists?

    March 11 02:54 PM
  • Jacquibim Hey man, sorry if I was acting dickish in the GnR thread lol. But I am wondering, what have you heard of In Flames?
    March 9 04:55 AM
  • dannyboy89 Personally, I think I'd put them together with 'Deth and Anthrax and above Slayer and Metallica. It's all opinion though. Having said that, Sckolnick is a fantastic lead player.
    March 8 07:53 PM
  • dannyboy89 If you were to match up Testament against the US Thrash Big 4, where would they rank?
    March 8 02:27 PM
  • Onirium I see... Then, maybe you would like his side project Incredible Expanding Mind****, which is more like a krautrock/ambient thing similar to Signify. I hope PT comes back with something more original someday, as Wilson said they were bored of doing metal stuff.
    March 7 06:44 PM
  • Rowan5215 You're very welcome. Give Wet Dream a spin too, sometime.
    March 7 05:28 PM
  • Rowan5215 Well I'm very glad I was able to recommend you something, instead of vice versa. It is a fantastic album, only gets better with time.
    March 7 05:02 PM
  • SgtPepper Hey man. I dont know if you've heard this, but it is so good: youtube.com/watch?v=JFdaOHBvMYY - It's collaboration between the flower travellin band and another japanese prog-rock artist. The vocals are in japanese (I dont know if you're cool with non-english lyrics) but it rocked my head of. I hope you like it.
    March 6 10:14 PM
  • Onirium Yeah, well, I was introduced to PT by a friend who gave me Deadwing and I was really amazed, because the only things I was listening to were Dream Theater and Pink Floyd. However, I now know pretty well every of their albums and I would say their early years were not as original as Deadwing or Fear in my opinion. I actually think Wilson's songwriting skills are pretty good though. Maybe check out his solo career if you haven't already.
    March 6 06:22 PM
  • zakalwe He's one that by-passed me for awhile, a few tunes resonated and I picked up a few of his albums last year. Goldrush has been a constant since and is rapidly becoming one of me all time greats. Thoroughly recommended dude.
    March 6 05:08 PM
  • zakalwe Ello dude. Neil Young - After The Goldrush. Please discuss.
    March 6 04:14 PM
  • BigHans dude you have to jam that Ranger EP I reviewed, so many fists I guarantee youll love it
    March 6 11:04 AM
  • Rowan5215 I'm very very pleased. Wet Dream is a fantastic album too, both focus a lot on instrumentals although Broken China is much more atmospheric. Just don't ever even think about getting the album Identity he made under the "Zee" name. Trust me on that.
    March 6 05:55 AM
  • Onirium But, just curiously, what is your opinion about Porcuoine Tree?
    March 6 12:53 AM
  • Onirium You don't need to be sorry, it was indeed funny
    March 5 10:28 PM
  • Onirium This is why I prefer Porcupine Tree; everything they do is perfect.
    March 5 08:40 AM
  • BigPleb He is a turd, agreed.
    March 1 07:33 PM
  • BigPleb HAHAHAH Jamie dude, I love your hate on Wilson :]
    March 1 07:27 PM
  • dannyboy89 Do you like Mastodon?
    February 28 05:39 PM
  • rockandmetaljunkie Yeah, it will be a shame, but what can I do ? That's the seafarer's life. I'm quite sure that I will miss a lot during my travelling. Well, I got to live with the choices I've made.
