  • PlatonicMushroom Looking forward to it [:
    November 22 06:39 PM
  • PlatonicMushroom That song you released last week was pretty good. Any estimation as to when the full album is out?
    November 22 05:55 PM
  • TalonsOfFire thx, sent it
    November 20 04:06 PM
  • TalonsOfFire Hey dude can you give my Abigail Williams review a look in the proofreading thread when you get a chance?
    November 20 03:27 PM
  • jesterhead92 Good to hear! You've definitely gotten a new fan in me, I liked your facebook page so I can keep track of upcoming tunes.
    October 24 11:55 AM
  • jesterhead92 That's kind of awesome, it's really good for a joke album haha. It kind of amazes me that you achieved such a massive sound with such basic means, I feel inspired! Do have a kit or are the drums programmed?
    October 23 12:48 PM
  • jesterhead92 With* the second one, typo~
    October 22 10:29 PM
  • jesterhead92 It looks like it's available on Hell's Headbangers. I like the first album too but dang, you outdid yourself by a good margin worth the second one. Could I inquire about what software and equipment you use? I'd like to try my hand at doing some solo stuff and I'm not really sure where to start.
    October 22 10:28 PM
  • jesterhead92 Jammed your latest album twice today and I mean it when I say that I loved it. I'm going to buy the CD tomorrow.
    October 22 06:25 PM
  • TalonsOfFire I like pretty much all bm, and what you're doing sounds awesome, am excited to hear!
    October 20 10:38 PM
  • TalonsOfFire Less necro? So you're making a Sunbather ripoff?? haha jk that sounds really cool, I only asked about genrebending out of curiosity, I'm a sucker for that stuff
    October 20 08:50 PM
  • TalonsOfFire Interesting, is it going to genrebend at all?
    October 20 08:37 PM
  • TalonsOfFire I can't even imagine doing that, spending eight years on something and writing and playing all the instruments myself, and it even being good, it's pretty damn impressive. I'm sure it takes forever, and whenever you make more im excited to hear it, keep up the great work!
    October 20 08:00 PM
  • TalonsOfFire That makes sense, and good to hear you concentrating on music since Falling Ash was one of the best black metal albums of the year
    October 20 07:27 PM
  • TalonsOfFire I was going to anyway, but you're not reviewing anymore? Any particular reason?
    October 20 07:14 PM
  • TalonsOfFire Hey Noc you gonna review the new Abigail Williams?
    October 20 07:07 PM
  • Hawks Not a problem at all brother!
    October 19 11:31 AM
  • osmark86 time for some Ethereal Shroud again. juicy stuff indeed.
    October 19 09:06 AM
  • Hawks Just got done with my first spin bro and holy s*** this rules. You're talented dude, excited to see where you go from here. I currently have it as number 18 on my top 25 metal albums of 2015 so far after just one listen. :]
    October 18 11:11 PM
  • Hawks About to give it a full listen now! Will report back with a rating when I'm done. :]
    October 18 10:44 PM
  • Hawks Not in full bro, but I sampled the first track and it sounds amazing. Gonna give it a full go either tonight or tomorrow.
    October 18 07:22 PM
  • bnelso55 That sounds great! I hope you get there. I'm sure the results will be excellent. You've already managed to capture solid guitar and drum sounds. Ethereal shroud getting the studio treatment would be top notch. I can understand recording the vocals in a place where you're in your element. I think that would be challenging to get an honest performance in a studio when you're not comfortable with the surroundings. Im concerned about that part of my music too.
    October 16 09:34 PM
  • bnelso55 Glad to hear the living situation has improved. Wow, that album is even more impressive to me now that I consider all the barriers and limitations you overcame. Haha it also probably means I really have no excuse. With a label backing you, do you think you'll be able to make it into a studio for the next record, or are you content with where you're at?
    October 16 04:32 PM
  • bnelso55 Thank you! I will certainly do that. It's a similar situation, where I've been mulling over the same material for 6-7 years and I've come to that "now or never" phase. I'm hoping to record some definitive versions of the music as soon as I can afford to do so. Everything I have recorded up to this point is lacking quality-wise, to say the least. If the final result is even halfway as successful as "...Falling Ash", I'd be thrilled.
    October 16 04:15 PM
  • bnelso55 Wow. After all of that you should be proud! Man, that's has to be a great feeling. That makes me happy for you, a little envious too. :) Hopefully one day I can feel the same way.
    October 16 03:49 PM
  • bnelso55 I'm really not surprised to hear that. The best music it seems either occurs in an instant or evolves over the course of many years. I feel like I can hear the blood, sweat, and tears that went into creating "They Became the Falling Ash".
    October 16 03:40 PM
  • bnelso55 Oh, and yeah, I know exactly what you mean. Even if I'm not committing anything to tape, I'm always kicking ideas around in my head. Sometimes it just takes time.
    October 16 03:09 PM
  • bnelso55 I'm thoroughly impressed by the latest Ethereal Shroud! Even after just one listen, I think I can say that it is your best work to date. I found myself completely enthralled at multiple points throughout the record, especially during the latter parts of "Look Upon the Light" and "Echoes in the Snow". Congratulations. What an accomplishment.
    October 16 03:09 PM
  • bnelso55 Please do! I enjoy the work you've done thus far. Right now I actually feel kind of stupid that I did not make the connection that you are Ethereal Shroud. I recognize the artwork for "They Became the Falling Ash" and I've seen the title appearing in the comments thread and I just never got around to checking it out. I will most certainly give it a listen now. I'm excited and glad to see you're still creating music!
    October 16 02:21 PM
  • bnelso55 Hey Noctus! Just stopping by to say I revisited "Starlight's Guide" recently and realized I had never really congratulated you properly on its release. The music is excellent, man. "Illuminance" is probably my favorite track, but I've added the whole EP to my "autumn playlist" and it'll be in regular rotation as the seasons change. Cheers!
    October 16 11:04 AM
  • Hawks Also, idk what happened or who's being negative towards you here, but **** them dude. You've been here for a long time and are a great user and reviewer. Don't let these idiots around here bring you down. You're a good guy buddy.
    October 16 09:44 AM
  • Hawks Yesssss! It's about time. ;] Will jam hard bro.
    October 16 09:41 AM
  • Deviant. I took a look and the person in question doesn't stick out as a "problem user". I even looked at some of your other reviews and couldn't find any consistent pattern either. Sorry dude
    October 16 02:22 AM
  • Atari Didn't realize people have been negative towards u outside of the negs, that's lame. I can't convince u to keep reviewing but I can say I hope I still see u around these parts because I respect your opinion on music. When I first started getting into bm on this site you and Kyle are two of the users I looked to the most to help me discover new music.... Even tho I don't really talk to u guys much at all lol.
    October 15 09:04 PM
  • minty901 It's odd but I wouldn't dwell on it. I see nothing wrong with the review at all, it hits on all the key points and is plenty concise yet descriptive. The album finally hit UK iTunes so I got it in (relatively) decent quality now. First track is better than I remember from the video so I'm looking forward to the rest.
    October 15 08:55 PM
  • Atari no worries man, I hope my comments don't make matters worse, but I just had to speak out when I saw how quickly the negs were piling on. and I really do dig your music too : ] the new ethereal shroud ruled, gonna be revisiting and re-rating it here pretty soon
    October 15 07:16 PM
  • Hawks Sweet def let me know bro! m/
    October 10 02:54 PM
  • Hawks Yesssss! When is that gonna happen bud?
    October 10 10:36 AM
  • minty901 so hideous album is streaming in full on their facebook fyi
    October 10 03:52 AM
  • Hawks I'll have to look into it bro, never heard of them before.
    September 25 12:11 PM
  • minty901 thats so cool. the new track is really great but not sure if it blows their previous album out the water or anything. its a lot more orchestral which is really cool. yeah im pretty excited about this band now.
    September 24 03:54 PM
  • minty901 I checked out So Hideous's first full-length and it's so my kind of thing I love it. It's what I wished for Deafheaven's Sunbather to sound like. Thanks again.
    September 24 09:21 AM
  • minty901 oh man that song was awesome. like an angrier version of for my parents. how did you find out about them?
    September 24 04:09 AM
  • TalonsOfFire i can respect that :)
    September 23 03:36 PM
  • TalonsOfFire it's interesting that you freely admit that you have poor taste, though i'm assuming as a result of all the users reactions as ive seen all over the site, which is why i asked
    September 23 03:11 PM
  • TalonsOfFire oh ok
    September 23 03:02 PM
  • TalonsOfFire so what's the deal with your ratings
    September 23 02:17 PM
  • minty901 the dissonant guitar melody right at the end of the title track is a stroke of genius. its a really good song but im struggling to get excited over the album as a whole. probably just arcs of command and the title track that im ever gonna be compelled to go back to. i know you dont agree, but i finally got round to checking out envy's latest album and for me that blows caspians album out of the water. also with the dear hunter coming out recently... i feel ive got better stuff to distract me.
    September 19 06:37 PM
  • minty901 also there is way too much modulation on so many of the guitar melodies. makes me feel sea sick. and some of the melodies just dont repeat in a way that is satisfying to me. but i love the heaviness of some of the tracks and i do think it has some of their most interesting ideas in it. the last track is excellent, especially the off-key lead guitar near the end that sounds so heartbreaking. i need more time with it because its not grabbing me. have you listened to it yet? (its streaming online)
    September 17 02:08 PM
  • minty901 re: the caspian album. oh man i dont know. intellectually there is a lot to like about it. its experimental (for them) and tries some cool things. but some things fall flat for me. the downtempo song with vocals does nothing to me. the penultimate track is too dry and nothingy. but i totally get what theyre going for. i like these little "experiments" of like really rough acoustics mixed in with an ambient album and stuff like that. theyre great ideas executed in kind of a "meh" way for me.
    September 17 02:05 PM
  • bach had no idea you were ethereal shroud. decided to check it out and it slaps hella hard man. seriously one of my favorites from this year.
    September 17 01:44 AM
  • Spag Aaaaaah. I need to revisit TLTS. I listened FTM album last night and I dig it. Gonna take time to digest it more now. I only have 3 more albums I'm waiting on luckily, Thy Catafalque, Mithras and Borknagar. This is the best year of music since 2011 for me. Really surprised with a lot of great albums honestly :]
    September 12 05:02 PM

    June 25 02:36 PM
  • Spag Yes! They grew on me pretty fast and I'm glad they did as I'm normally not big on death metal. :) I still need to check out their first album and if I have heard right I THINK they'll have a new album this year.

  • AlphaBetaFoxface Dude! Just found out about Ethereal Shroud! They Became the Falling Ash is absolutely banging! Keep it up!
    June 3 01:00 AM
  • Spag Haha, I'm still deciding my favorite track on here. I'm really fond of tracks like Game Over, Pale, Crashland, Angst etc. This album was something I've been waiting for since 2011 and I'm very satisfied with the way it came out. The production doesn't even bother me anymore either (wasn't too fond of the drum sound at first but now it's ok for me).
    May 7 06:35 PM
  • Spag Whoa! Glad you like the Arcturus album man. I didn't think you quite dig it. I'm actually pretty relieved lol.
    May 6 10:20 PM
  • Gameofmetal Request sent. Sorry I don't look as black metal as you hehe
    May 5 08:59 PM
  • VisionsFromTheDarkSide I had no idea that They Became the Falling Ash was a user-made album, such is its quality. Seriously good job man, probably my favourite release of 2015 so far!
    May 2 04:32 PM
  • Spag Ahh I see. Hopefully so then! Personally, there's no way in hell I won't love this album lol. Same goes for the Arcturus for me. :)

  • PortalofPerfection Speaking of passionate, don't know why I've never thought to rec you this before but I think there's a decent chance you will really like this. Wrote the review a while back, not terribly good, but the album sure is. Give it a shot, I think it's either gonna sound ridiculous or you're gonna love it.http://www.sputnikmusic.com/review/61162/Darkflight-Closure/
    April 29 12:08 AM

    March 15 11:52 AM
  • cryptside I'm really glad you like the review, it's always a little scarier when you know the person that created the music is reading what you're writing haha.
    March 14 07:58 PM
  • cryptside Posted. :]
    March 14 04:51 PM
  • cryptside My review is shaping to be one of my one-paragraphers; I hope you don't mind. I just cut a lot of stuff where I was repeating myself over and over.
    March 14 03:06 PM
  • cryptside Hey man, got some thoughts written down on the album. Will be up on Saturday at the latest. :)
    March 13 12:49 AM

    March 8 03:46 PM
  • Gameofmetal That's pretty interesting. Glad it worked out after all.
    March 6 10:42 AM

    March 6 10:32 AM

    March 2 01:01 PM
  • osmark86 well I'll be damned. new Ethereal Shroud ey? gotta get on that.
    March 1 12:52 PM
  • Wizard You should be proud you did an album of that calibre by yourself. I simply love those almost-symphonic moments when the black metal just comes screaming out of the blue from the quieter sections. Still gonna give your first album a listen ; ).
    February 27 01:46 PM
  • Wizard http://www.sputnikmusic.com/soundoff.php?albumid=183817

    February 23 08:15 PM
  • Wizard And I ****ing love it hahaha. I got really baked and put it on last night....love spacing out to atmospheric bm. Also, I've had a promo for new Leviathan and it rules pretty hard.

    February 22 02:14 PM
  • Crysis ooooo yeah i definitely will
    February 22 12:25 PM
  • Bombastus Yo, bro, could you rec me some doom? I'm currently listening to Shape of Despair and MDB a lot. Contrasting elements - piano, violin, synths - are mandatory.
    February 2 07:18 PM
  • CaptainDooRight Whoa bro, sounds really good. I love that clean drop too and the progressions taken from there. I really wanna listen to it again through a good stereo system.
    February 2 01:46 PM
  • thacoconut94 Okay man cheers
    January 18 08:31 AM
  • thacoconut94 Your dig, would you say it sways more towards death or black? Looking for something to spin but with blackened death I'm fussy cause I much prefer the pair separate for more clarity
    January 17 11:17 AM
  • pedro70512 awyes. this looks like fun. do we /really/ have to wait four months? ughh
    January 6 01:09 AM
  • pedro70512 Hey Noctus. You gotten a chance to listen to the whole album yet?

  • pedro70512 Noctus I need your name to credit you on the album broseph
    December 12 07:49 AM
  • johnnydeking29 Oh, it was an album of rerecordings? Which albums had the originals?
    November 20 07:48 PM
  • johnnydeking29 Hey dude, just discovered Kauan through their new album; could you explain what you found average about, and what you like about their past work?
    November 20 11:22 AM
  • JohnnyOnTheSpot hey man, giving you a heads up that I posted that Grouper review since you asked
    October 28 11:15 AM
  • CaptainDooRight yeah man def enjoyed the music aspect quite a bit, I look forward to your future works and I feel privileged to be able to associate with you
    October 27 11:37 AM
  • CaptainDooRight def enjoying the ethereal shroud album but what's really holding me back in the drums, its not that they're programmed but it was the chosen compositions for them, they just feel out of place and subtracting from the music, which is really good. It's taking me a while to digest because of that. I'm trying though. I worked out to it a few days ago as well.
    October 23 02:12 PM
  • BigPleb cheers buddy :]
    October 21 10:12 AM
  • BigPleb Thanks a lot! Never been a huge BM advocate but need to give the genre a chance tbh.
    October 21 10:09 AM
  • ExplosiveOranges Yeah, I just came off an awful writer's block, so I do feel like it turned out a little rough around the edges. Rest assured, though, I aim to cut down on the amount of irrelevant content with my intros in my next review and so on.
    October 19 09:46 PM
  • JohnnyOnTheSpot Gotcha, thanks man. Yeah I could whittle things down a bit. I've got a review for the new Grouper album in the works, and I'll try and adjust it a bit based off what you said.
    October 19 07:48 PM
  • ExplosiveOranges Hey man, just saw your comment on my Winterfylleth review. You were pretty right about the whole filler intro, and I'll be sure to avoid doing that in the future. Thanks for all the feedback.
    October 19 07:05 PM
  • JohnnyOnTheSpot cheers. I guess if you're particularly bored in the next little while, maybe scope out a handful of my more recent revs and shout box me any shortcomings you might notice in my writing? Just general stuff, I don't need an in depth proofread or anything. Any help is appreciated man, and I'm always willing to improve. *No rush* whatsoever though
    October 19 05:31 PM
  • JohnnyOnTheSpot hey man, I've seen to offer criticisms on a few reviews and was wondering if I could get a bit of input if you have a moment
    October 19 05:13 PM
  • CaptainDooRight so let me ask you, why is it you're keeping your identity confidential with ES? do you not want people to know its you? just curious because I have no problem honoring that. I was thinking of putting it on one of my recommended albums list
    October 17 02:22 PM
  • CaptainDooRight Loving the Ethereal Shroud album! I'm thinking somewhere between 3.5-4.
    October 17 12:13 PM
  • ComeToDaddy hey Noct, just wondering if you were going to review Sines? I'd love to put one together, but you're Sputnik's resident Jakob fan so you definitely get first review dibs. I'll just archive it until you've posted yours if so (:
    October 15 04:42 PM
  • CaptainDooRight still digesting it, and how about that new Jakob!
    October 15 10:08 AM

  • osmark86 I've heard Woman is the Earth and I dig it. very "organic" stuff with plenty of feels. what did you think of it?
    October 1 03:51 AM
  • osmark86 sounds awesome man, excited for the release! what is your black metal project called? I want to check it out. working a bit on a doomy/bm release myself, but knowing me it'll take a long ass time before I'm near completion. baby steps, baby steps.
    October 1 03:51 AM
  • CaptainDooRight I listened to the song. It's amazing! But, you said guess who it is. Is it you? Maybe I'm a little confused.
    October 1 01:29 AM
  • Gmork89 Dude, did you really hear the new Blut Aus Nord and rate it a 2.5??I have high hopes :(
    September 30 12:02 AM

    September 27 03:08 PM
  • CaptainDooRight Awesome! I really appreciate that specific feedback. Those are some very useful pointers and I'll definitely take them all to heart and work on those. Yes, composing effective transitions is super hard but I'm really trying my best. I'll keep focusing on that. Thanks again bro!!

    September 15 02:26 AM
  • Artuma no worries dude
    September 15 02:25 AM
  • pedro70512 may as well if you're up for it. I've put enough work into this thing that it's worth asking you for a second take :]
    September 15 02:24 AM
  • Artuma holy s*** this is great
    September 15 02:14 AM
  • pedro70512 it was a little fast so I slowed it down by 10% and lowered the pitch to get a darker tone. the emphasis on words like "mist" and "merely" was a little awkward too. if you'd like to do another take that would be fine...it's your voice, and real

    September 9 08:45 PM
  • Wizard Please, please, please give me the link for the new Darkspace!
    September 8 09:50 PM
  • minty901 to be honest i don't even know, not being much of a fan of theirs at all. they did play forever lost which i like from AIV,AIB. and suicide by star. but thats the only album i know so all the other songs were new to me. echoes was probably the best. i think they played a new song or two. the lead guitarist/keyboardist was the nicest guy, he came down to the front while packing away and asked people what they enjoyed, and if they wanted any momentos.
    September 3 05:12 AM
  • minty901 just got back from arctangent festival. saw god is an astronaut and they were incredible. really rocked it. one of the best bands of the weekend honestly. thought you'd appreciate that.
    August 31 10:49 AM
  • osmark86 sweet! I use a UX1 but it's a bit of a bitch to get the tone to sound right and not buzzy enough. I'm sort of used to producing electronic stuff, but this is a whole new ballpark for me with guitars and distortion. I suppose that's how it is though, plug n play, waste the day away
    August 6 01:49 PM
  • osmark86 so I've never tried the whole bedroom metal shindig, but I'm sort of getting that creative spark to get and make a couple of songs. how do you record? do you use guitar impulses and that junz, or do you have any other tips? PS. listened to Of Solitude and Solemn again and it's solid stuff!
    August 6 10:35 AM
  • BMDrummer Why the Neurosis hatred? :[
    July 22 12:37 AM
  • OmairSh You don't actually have to believe in the rating :-D. Anyway what up?
    July 17 10:35 AM
  • OmairSh Okay okay you've had your fun, now increase your WS rating. The average of 3.9 hurts my eyes :-(
    July 17 12:20 AM

    July 7 11:39 PM
  • PortalofPerfection Yuuuus my pos is ready
    June 12 03:32 PM
  • PortalofPerfection What Atari said. Also, who are these tools giving it 2s and 2.5s. Nothing average about this. I could even see as low as a 3 if this sorta folky stuff really isn't your thing but the execution on this is just too tight to be anything less than good. I'm pretty sure you felt the same way about the Gris album from last year
    June 12 02:33 PM
  • Atari you should review the new saor
    June 11 01:25 PM
  • PortalofPerfection Well it's probably the most simplistic track but it seems to come at the perfect time to give you a break from listening through so many different layers for so long . Plus it's catchy! ? so when's the review coming??? ?
    June 9 03:49 PM
  • PortalofPerfection I actually feel like each track is better than the one that proceeds it, the album just gets better and better all the way to the end
    June 8 06:29 PM
  • PortalofPerfection Pillars is soooo goooood ?
    June 8 06:26 PM
  • PortalofPerfection Favorite track?
    June 7 11:50 PM
  • PortalofPerfection It was Roots for 5 or 6 listens (of Aura) but I'm going on 10 and now it's neck and neck. I think Aura will overtake it, the way each song progresses just blows my mind
