  • Athom Minus the Bear - Planet of Ice, Pax Cecilia - Blessed are the Bonds, Ancestors - Of Sound Mind, Envy - Insomniac Doze

  • Rationalist Completely off topic but how could you rate Between The Buried And Me's Colors so highly when his vocals are god awful? I mean, I don't hate it like a bunch of other "it meanders, omigod" sort of thing, because they can craft some interesting stuff on occasion, but Tommy serves no purpose.

  • Nagrarok It will remain a matter of opinion. I've never seen them live, or heard anything beside Colors, but from on that record, the vocals are some of the worst I've ever heard. About the riffs, I did not mean as in 'exactly the same', but towards the end of the album, they end up sounding too similar for their own good.

  • captainhandicapable Personally, I really like that guy's drumming, idk bout you.

  • Nagrarok Pretty much my point mate, that post-rock has non-traditional structure. And yes, I know In the Court is great. See my 5 rating. I would rate Colors higher if not for the also very negative points that are recycled riffs and godawful vocals.

  • SeaAnemone this is really sad dude
    February 12 03:17 PM
  • Nagrarok Even post-rock has structure. Structure is not necessarily traditional song structure. If you look at the post-rock acts you mentioned, you'll see that they have definitely put some thought in how their songs flow and progress. Colors is too messy.

  • SeaAnemone hahahahahaha
    February 12 03:12 PM
  • Nagrarok 1. They have indeed no structure, which is always required in music. 2. The vocals are some of the worst I've had the displeasure of hearing, and 3. The riffs are recycled as hell. About the Doors, most of their song credits went to themselves, so I don't get what you're talking about. Enlighten me.

  • cirq thanks man! i like your taste as well...no homo
    February 12 03:41 AM
  • Rationalist Also, your stars of the lid rating is too low. You need to have it as a five. Now. And if you need anymore recs (particularly avant garde/emo/neoclassical/drone metal/vanguard black metal...) feel free to shoutbox me.

  • Rationalist ... post-hardcore based effort, buy Bedlam. If you want a more relaxed vibe, then Octahedron is for you. If you want something between frances and deloused, then amputechture is your thing. I think you would like Bedlam and Octahedron, but I can't say fo' sho'.
    February 12 03:24 AM
  • Rationalist ... I find it immensely overrated. Octahedron is good, but its like musical blue balls. Slow jerk with no pay. If you like relaxed stuff with quirks of progginess, then that's your fix. I got used to the full-blown, "this band is on meth" tmv and that disappointed me immensely. In short, if you like balls to the wall, omigod what the **** is the vocalist doing? Did he just masturbate on the fretboard? type stuff it's Frances The Mute that will get you off. If you want a more...
    February 12 03:22 AM
  • Rationalist I'll assume that you AREN'T progmaster85's alt account and try to help you out with some recs. Most people who enjoy De-Loused either hate Frances The Mute because it's so quaint and just ****ing inanely insane, or love it because it's so quaint and just ****ing inanely insane. Amputechture, imo, is one of TMV's most underrated albums. IDK I really like it. Bedlam is mediocre for anyone who knows what TMV can do. It reminds me of TFoT in a bad way, even though its still excellent...

  • qwe3 i would have recd a lotta old prog but you seem to have that covered.

  • couldwinarabbit No problem, just don't like people thinking I'm dumb. So if you like jazz have you ever heard of Hypnotic brass ensemble. It's new last year, really psychedelic jazz. It won my album of the year. If you like jazz check it out.
    February 10 02:31 AM
  • couldwinarabbit lol. I'm not saying Kind of Blue is bad, it's in no way bad. It's actually about as far away from bad as you can get. I was just saying when people put "kind of Blue" it's often because they have no idea what they are talking about and just want to seem smart. When the put Bitches Brew it generally shows they have listened to jazz to some degree.

  • TheSpirit Yeah, he's definitely my favorite guitar player of all time and one of my inspirations as a guitar player. He can just literally do anything and it's quite awe inspiring
    February 7 04:33 AM
  • TheSpirit Honestly, that's the only jazz-orienteted band i am familiar with, but I'm glad you enjoyed them.
    February 7 04:29 AM
  • TheSpirit np, tell me what you think of them if/when you get a listen
