  • WashboardSuds It's all good, don't check here a ton myself. I actually just recently grabbed that Octex album and I've been really enjoying it. The rest I'll start digging for tonight, really appreciate the recs man.

  • WashboardSuds sup Hyperion, what are some of your favorite dub techno albums? I have most of the essentials but right now I've been really digging Echo Delta - Blue Eon and Sraunus - Novella. your taste in electronic seems to be pretty similar to mine so thought I'd ask what you were into.

  • TheBarber From since the first time I joined in 2011 your reviews, lists and weird presence have made me discover soo much incredible music I couldn't imagine even existed as well as often given them a voice. The first time I jammed Zones Without People on dusks roads in the passenger seat, shortly after reading your interesting mess of a fanboy review, I basicaly got what can only essentialy be referred to as a moment. I'm grateful to you, may the ether be kind to you as you shove away lad

  • Jade Love ya bud. Hmu on Facebook sometime if you'd like to catch up. Currently deactivated but I'll be back eventually : )

  • Maniac! That's awesome. Hopefully I can move in with my wife sometime in the next year or two. We've been stationed on opposite sides of the country for the last 2 years.

  • Maniac! Can't really complain. Living comfortably with a roof over my head. Living in DC now. How about yourself?
    June 11 10:45 AM
  • Maniac! I just wanted you to know that your list exposed me to that Caretaker album, which is the kind of album I've been looking for for a long time. Thanks for that. It's fantastic.

  • EyesWideShut you a real 1 Hype
    June 10 08:34 PM
  • Kman418 their studio albums are still pretty good too, just have a totally different appeal and are way less revolutionary and boundary pushing. but im really glad i got into them cause it kind of opened my eyes to how those same elements can exist in non electronic genres and how in the context of rock and blues and folk they can create an entirely different experience
    June 10 08:01 PM
  • Kman418 don't even bother with their studio material, just check like live/dead if you're at all interested. but like honestly so much of what they did was really in line with that same approach to music, especially their earlier spacey stuff and the stuff they did live that was literally just straight noise experimentation
    June 10 06:50 PM
  • Kman418 have you ever listened to grateful dead?? i know they're like totally off from what you're usually into but ive been listening to them a lot more recently and i think they're something you might really enjoy, especially off your description for rifts and different trains in that list. it's weird i honestly think a lot of their stuff is way more comparable to ambient music and general noise/soundscape experimentation genres than it is to most rock and folk music
    June 10 06:48 PM
  • parksungjoon any chance i could send you a short youtube playlist of allegedly techno music and you could give me some similar recs?

    March 25 01:22 PM
  • Hawks Hell yeah bro they're so good.
    March 22 07:01 PM
  • Kman418 tough question to answer just cuz they have such a diverse catalogue. i'd say feels cause i think that album has some of their most inventive textures and there's a lot of soundscapey ambient type stuff on it so i think u would appreciate it. idk if you're into folk type stuff at all, but if you're willing to try something a bit more out there spirit they're gone or sung tongs might appeal to u too
    March 18 02:35 PM
  • Kman418 do u listen to floating points at all cuz he's like the best electronic artist ive found in maybe a year

  • JohnnyOnTheSpot thanks for the in-depth response, man. i guess my challenge comes with trying to be concise while still elaborating enough. finding that balance. if i try to make each idea one paragraph, i fear the review will just get overlong (not that I'm disagreeing with your point - it's just one of those things i've been struggling with). i'll try and tweak my approach a bit on my next review and see if i can make things just a bit more comprehensive.
    May 29 08:38 PM

I really dig the setup you have for your library, any chance you can give me a hand in making something similar? rn I have only the coverart preview and the main list of music in a dark blue background but that list of artists you got on the left side is perfect

    April 28 06:48 PM
  • Let Hey man, I don't know if you're into any kind of noise music, but I listened to Shock Front by Converter the other day and it's like the techno (but not exactly techno, kinda IDMish) album I've been waiting for my whole life. Like holy s***, this is the kind of thing I want to bump in an abandoned warehouse at levels that will guarentee tinnitus. It's a punishing mix of beats and layers upon layers of noise (though not too harsh) and occasional synths. T/t is bananas

    February 8 07:05 PM
  • Gyromania it.* after several repeat plays i've found a lot to like about it. there are some gorgeous melodies buried underneath all those drum sounds, like in pen expers. but i think the real gem of the album has to be uviol (if that's how you spell it). will prob avoid that thread for a while out of embarrassment lol
    January 30 09:46 AM
  • Gyromania you're right, it is definitely fun. however, i always feel like i'm walking on eggshells when it comes to not just overtly disliking something, but challenging why other people seem to think it's good, because conversations on sputnik tend to devolve into petty fights after enough time. not to mention these things are purely subjective, so it might give off the impression that i can't handle divergent opinions, which isn't the case.all things considered regarding that album, i prematurely judged
    January 30 09:45 AM
  • Gyromania yo man, sorry if it seemed like i was attacking you in that autechre thread. was just having a really bad couple of days. i'm actually pretty embarrassed to admit that after hearing it several more times, i think it's pretty damn great.

    December 2 12:24 AM
  • Deviant. I go back and forth on it to be honest. Even when I only like it more than I love it it's a solid 4, but I just don't see it as being one of the best of the year. It's a weird release were if I listen to it after a week I think it's amazing. But then if I put into heavier rotation I start to notice all the flaws and wish it was more than it was. Surprised how cohesive it is though; he very much went for an actual album, and not a series of generic club tracks
    December 1 08:20 PM
  • Keyblade I haven't. It sounds really damn good tho, and is exactly the type of gaze I've been craving lately. Sweet find yo

    October 21 11:20 PM
  • Kman418 IT IS i was actually really surprised i didn't go in expecting much but it really impressed me.... it's a lot less directly scary than most modern horror films but like its so subtle and the atmosphere is done so well it's still super super tense the whole time. especially the last third of it in particular like the last 30 minutes had me ****ed up. but yeah it's definitely worth checking out, especially if you want something unique when it comes to horror

  • EyesWideShut dude, check out this film called Wake in Fright.. its not exactly a horror flick but like a savage road movie through the Outback. Donald Pleasence is actually in it. I think you would dig it.
    October 8 01:15 AM
  • ExplosiveOranges Eh, true. I didn't like Halloween as a kid, but it eventually occurred to me that free candy and chicks in super kinky costumes is pretty ****ing awesome.
    October 7 09:37 PM

  • Deviant. Was actually kinda surprised at how "modern" some of the entries were, and then wondered where Clark was gonna make an appearance (even though he didn't really blow my mind until the mid-00's so I can see the exclusion). I know maybe half of the stuff on there, the other half is either a mix of being familiar with the name only, or just never having heard of them. Comprehensive though; guess I got some downloading to do!
    September 25 12:33 AM

  • JohnnyOnTheSpot hey man thanks again.
    September 22 09:50 PM
  • JohnnyOnTheSpot definitely, probably won't submit it until right before release anyway. I know you don't really like conversational reviews, but I tend to enjoy reviews that read more like that, so I'll probably make a couple personal tweaks. cheers
    September 21 08:31 PM
  • JohnnyOnTheSpot ok I just figured out how to view those 'highlights'... ughanyway, I did a bunch of editing and sorted out the issues. would you like to read the improved version? only if you aren't busy
    September 21 07:54 PM
  • JohnnyOnTheSpot On the flip side, were there some parts you thought were really good that I should utilize more throughout the review?
    September 21 06:52 PM
  • JohnnyOnTheSpot Yeah you're totally right man, thanks for sorting me out
    September 21 06:19 PM
  • JohnnyOnTheSpot I'll definitely add some more meat to the description of the actual album, but it'll be tricky without resorting to lame buzzwords. And yeah the conclusion is still lacking
    September 21 05:23 PM
  • JohnnyOnTheSpot sent. thanks man
    September 21 05:07 PM
