  • scarecrow46290 I usually dislike re-recordings but that one has a distinct then-and-now-ness to it that intrigues me. I also find evaluating his latest ambient records in relation to the rest of his work to be difficult, because his post-prison black metal feels like an uninspired pantomime of Filosofem and can imo be dismissed on those grounds, but those two records are stylistically unique unto themselves and are evocative of the heroic in a way the rest of his work is not.

  • scarecrow46290 The ambient records and From the Depths are good. I also endorse his books and video content.

  • neekafat Journals isn't terrible and you'll find people here who are adamant that purpose is actually good which is weird but whatever

  • neekafat That Bieber album ain't half bad tbh, and Panzerfaust was mind-numbingly dull

  • manosg Hey Alastor, hope all is well. I've been jamming this dungeon synth album the last couple of days and enjoying it a lot. Since you're a much more experienced DS listener than me, your opinion would interest me, provided you have the time to listen to the album. https://thangorodrimsynth.bandcamp.com/

  • Kubrick Ah yeah I have a friend in film school at NYU whose favorite director is Kurosawa.. he's always telling me I need to see more stuff by him haha. I saw Seven Samurai a few years ago and I remember liking it a lot, but I'd need to see it again for sure to really form a full opinion on it since it's been awhile. I'll definitely check more of his movies out. And yeah I absolutely loved The Wind Rises... it's UNBELIEVABLY beautiful and a much more serious, meditative type movie than his other stuff.
    March 5 02:30 AM
  • Kubrick More stuff: Quentin Tarantino (Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill, Inglorious Basterds), and then just random of other favorites - American Beauty, Pan's Labyrinth, Hero, good horror films (original Halloween), Hayao Miyazaki films (The Wind Rises is ****ing amazing - should've won the oscar), Donnie Darko

  • Kubrick Thanks dude! Yeah been a Kubrick fanboy for while now... his movies are just perfect. Easily best director of all time, no question. In terms of other stuff I really like:- Darren Aronofsky (director) - Black Swan (perfect movie), Requiem for a Dream- Charlie Kaufman (writer) - Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (perfect movie), Being John Malkovich, Synecdoche New York- Paul Thomas Anderson (director) - There Will Be Blood, Magnolia, The Master

  • demon of surveillance Yeah that song definitely has the musical and lyrical qualities later found in viking metal. Now if only we could get a cover with vocals from Quorthon or Grutle Kjellson from Enslaved haha.

  • demon of surveillance Hmm I've always thought Manowar to be just lame cheese but I'll check it out, thanks!

  • KriegdemKriege Lol. I'm not from Germany, but I speak German. Krieg dem Kriege means war against wars. It's a famous anti-war book by Ernst Friedrich. He's the guy in my profile picture.
    February 8 05:51 PM
  • KriegdemKriege It might deserve a 4. I'll be honest, it's been a while since I gave it a listen. It's definitely a good album, but their best for me is a tie between Voimasta ja kunniasta and Verisäkeet.

  • YakNips Haha, thanks man. I get that a lot.

  • Raz0rGrind23 Love Moonsorrow bro. Saw them live with Korpiklaani and Tyr last September. Awesome show. Yet to be matched. I'm sure you've heard Finsterforst yes?
