  • Wizard Good list buddy. One thing though, why Angels and Airwaves? Seems like the odd album out on here.

  • Metalstyles I had nothing that particular in mind, but what you wrote sounds pretty kickass, so if you have something of that ilk lined up, I'm all ears.

  • Metalstyles Similar thoughts here regarding new music. Ever since I started working at a record store I've been really up to date with pop/alternative/even indie, and totally out of the loop with metal. I mean, I know what's come out and all, but I haven't managed to listen to most of what's sounded intriguing to me. Between work, socializing and other hobbies, metal's taken a backseat for me in 2014, which is sad because it is still undeniably my biggest passion when it comes to music.

  • Metalstyles Cool, cool. I myself am still looking for my true calling. I studied Estonian and Finno-Ugric Languages and Culture in university for 1.5 years, but it turned out that the whole "making correct sentences into even more correct sentences" thing isn't for me, and I quickly decided that I do not wish to become an editor or a language professor/decoder/lover.

  • Metalstyles No problem, same here actually. What's your profession?

  • Metalstyles Hey man, asking for a rec again. I've asked this before from some other Sputnikers, but they haven't been able to help me. Do you happen to know of any good dramatic post-rock/post-metal/ambient albums, that would sound like Mechina's song Actaeon? Since I'm not sure whether or not you've heard Actaeon, here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=olnzjtAmLvk

  • Metalstyles It's a mix of their new and old stuff. You could say that the melodies are written more like they were on Above the Weepies, but the music's faster-paced a lot of the time, like One For Sorrow was. I'm pretty sure you'll like the album a lot. "Lost To Night" is one hell of a great song. But yeah, if you come across anything that reminds you of Insomnium (or Ghost Brigade or Black Sun Aeon or basically any Finnish melancholic metal band) do let me know, I'm a sucker for that kind of music.

  • Wizard https://rateyourmusic.com/list/Wizardvh/journey_to_the_bleakness_of_the_soul__a_definitive_guide_to_black_metal/If you rec me bm and it makes my list, let alone a (*) next to it, I approve hahaha

  • Metalstyles Ok so I haven't listened yet, but I just put Griefloss on my ipod, so I'll be able to spin it on my way to work some day. Appreciate the rec! And on that note, my most listened to album from this year is quite an unpopular choice (at least around here I believe) - Insomnium's new one. If you've got anything from this year in that vein as well, I'm all ears. Really loving Shadows of the Dying Sun, dunno why others are complaining haha.

  • Wizard Really, really impress. Kind of like DSBM sounding but really jingly at the same time. Good fine buddy.

  • Wizard Not big into blackgaze but what the hell, you guys are always surprising me : ). Also, what exactly are classical bm vocals? Like Opera vocals or crappy gothic vocals?
    July 31 01:07 PM
  • Metalstyles Hey man, thanks for the rec, luckily tomorrow is a day off for me and I'll be sure to give that album at least its first spin then.

  • BloodMusic Hey there - actually these guys still have some copies of "Pirut" on LP.http://www.eisenton.de/shop/index.php
    May 21 09:41 AM
  • BloodMusic Hey there! No "Pirut" repress planned now, but we will be releasing a "new" album which is re-recorded versions of several old tracks - really beautifuls. It will be called "Muistumia" and be coming a bit later in the year, alongside "Aava Tuulen Maa" vinyl and sometime next year, we'll have the early albums on vinyl. :)If interest builds in a "Pirut" repress, we'll do it again on down the line in a year or so ... just have to wait it out!

  • Metalstyles Sup man, since we have almost identical taste when it comes to metal, I think you should give Hanging Garden - At Every Door a go. I really liked that album at the start of last year, but then I forgot about it for a while. Today I picked it up again and it totally floored me after I hadn't listened to it in almost half a year. Really cool melodic doom metal from Finland that is at times massive and at times just beautiful.

  • Yazz_Flute Yeah, it was some pretty chilling material definitely. I listened to it for the first time while I fell asleep last night and the beginning of "If You Call That Living" scared the s*** out of me.

  • patrickfannon Yeah, I listened to Eager To Tear Apart The Stars last year as well. I liked it a lot, but not nearly as much as Empty Bliss. There's just something incredibly special about that record. I bought it on vinyl from him. Did you see he's set to release another record soon? http://brainwashed.com/vvm/releases/the_caretaker_patience_after_sebald.html

  • Hawks No dude you can't your own reviews. But just post it on the earliest release date you see. It probably varies for different countries.
    March 26 12:21 AM
  • Hawks Save it in Microsoft Word. The mods will it since it hasn't been officially released yet. Unless you can find a stream.
    March 26 12:16 AM
  • sleepyhead just checked out your ratings and i must say almost all of them are spot on! Agalloch 5, both Alcest albums 4s, Shrouded Divine 4.5, Mantra 3.5, etc. so yeah, i'm pretty confident your list will rule...almost as much as mine :p
    June 14 02:18 AM
  • sleepyhead ok bro let me know when it's done. i'm close to finishing mine too, trying to make it as objective as possible but will probably end up doing 2 seperate lists (a personal one and an objective one!)

  • Thanntos haha, meant the singer is more emo sounding. Not exactly within the lyrical content.
    April 19 07:29 PM
  • shortone323 I'm curious as to how Jamies Elsewhere is "more emo" than A Day to Remember. Care to enlighten me?
    April 17 10:35 PM
  • Thanntos Thanks! :D I haven't d my ratings in a long time. My album collection exceeds two thousand, over a thousand metal though hehe. I have most of them rated on rateyourmusic.com :D
