  • PortalofPerfection I think I understand. Like the first three tracks are astounding and then it kind of just settles in and follows the same formula. Tracks are good but not as awe striking as the first three. The exception for me is the last track which is my favorite on the album and seems to sound a bit different. Plus it's not that long do I'm abusing tyne hell out of it. Trying to find the time to review it (and falaise).

  • PortalofPerfection Yeah the drums are programed, I don't know I like that they sound off beat a little. Production is definitely ameturish but that just adds to the charm for me. I get what you're saying though. That Obsequiae album though. Nothing ameturish about that! O_O

  • PortalofPerfection Falaise? Clunky? Sigh. I have such a love-hate relationship with this place.
    May 25 06:08 PM
  • PortalofPerfection Yeah there's this band called Falaise, two piece from Italy, shoegazy melodic bm, really good debut but I'm 99% sure if I write a review it won't do much good.
    May 25 02:40 AM
  • PortalofPerfection dooood the new Obsequiae is sooo gooood. Thanks for trying to get it out there, I'm sure the band appreciates it as well. Already ordered the CD and DLed the digital from bandcamp. Best thing I'll hear this year most likely.

  • Wizard Last year, I met Bruni at an Atlas Mouth show in London I told him my name and he said, "you and maybe two other people on this earth order EVERYTHING I release including snatching up everything in my distro as well!" He said he would throw me the odd demo once in a while (probably because I've spent $1000's with him over the years). I asked for the Leviathan demo and 2 days later, it was in the mail hahahaha I still bought the deluxe package from him.
    March 21 07:10 AM
  • Wizard I will be sure to have Chris Bruni email you personally to tell you how he gave me a promo of the new Bosse-de-Nage : P

  • Wizard It is post-metalish in one way but still bm through and through (kind of like Deafheaven how they disguise their bm with other sub-genres).
    February 25 10:07 PM
  • Wizard Oh **** yeah, song rips. Bosse-De-Nage are the perfect example of how to experiment with bm and not sound like a douchy hipster.
    February 25 09:57 PM
  • pedro70512 Sweet, I'll give it a listen! thanks
    February 22 08:16 PM
  • Wizard **** I love me some atmospheric bm.
    February 22 09:25 AM
  • Wizard Profound Lore has always been nice enough to give me promos for the past 5 years. Still want me to die in a fire?
    February 20 07:31 AM
  • Wizard You're looking forward to new Leviathan? Gotta say though, I've had a promo copy of it for a week and it's ****ing awesome. Chris Bruni is one cool dude.
    February 19 09:23 PM
  • Wizard Awesome thank you! And to rebuttal, I think it's the overly complicated controls of newer systems that bother me. I'm all about the 8, 16, and 64 bit systems my friend. You will never find more entertaining video games than that.
    February 15 10:09 AM
  • Voivod Yeah, that Graves album was a great find. I will probably raise my 3.5 in time to come so as to match your 4 :). Take care!
    February 14 03:30 AM
  • Wizard By reality escape, the games are too realistic to be of any fun. Weird concept but it makes sense.
    February 13 07:43 AM
  • Wizard Fair enough, sometimes I get burned out from how much music I listen to and it probably affects the way I feel about certain albums as well. But video games? I grew up in the old school era of gaming (Nintendo, Sega, N64, Gameboy). If you're giving up music for new age vids (ie. Xbox 360, Playstation 3), I'm going to call you a huge fag, those gaming platforms are absolutely mind crippling and do nothing but try and steep themselves in a sort of reality escape rather than just honest fun.
    February 13 07:42 AM

    October 23 10:24 AM
  • Wizard Ardour Loom is quite the amazing post blackened metal band too!
    October 20 07:55 AM
  • Wizard Hahaha I've had that album for a while and it's actually pretty damn amazing. I love the NWOBHM vibe they have going. The way they do those slinky, doodly guitar parts are ****ing awesome. It's like blackened psych metal.

  • Wizard Apparently his gf was a **** and tried to ruin his reputation. And True Traitors, True Whore is an amazing piece of bm.
    October 2 07:23 AM
  • Wizard Dude, listen to Krieg's "The Isolationist" and tell me they're filthy, sludgey bm isn't accompanied by the perfect guitar tone. And everything else by Leviathan is essential American bm to my ears. Recently it's been cool to rag on Wrest and Leviathan but for whatever reason this is, I have no idea.
    October 1 09:06 PM
  • Wizard Heard that split a week ago and it ****ing rules. Ever thought of checking out Krieg's newest album or to go even further, anything by Leviathan?

    September 29 04:53 PM
  • Evreaia The last 2 tracks ruin sooooooo much. To be honest up until track 7 I thought the record was a perfect mix of witch folk and black metal. And than those last 2 tracks almost ruin everything.

    September 24 07:27 AM
  • Wizard Perfect rating on new Darkspace. Album is overhyped to s*** and has nothing on the vast majority of upcoming bm that's been showcased this year. I've never been so overwhelmed with this much quality anything in a given metal genre.
    September 23 09:38 PM
  • emester you got any more great cascadian you can rec me?
    September 23 05:06 PM

    September 2 01:26 AM
  • Vakarian12 yeah I couldn't really get into the whole time travel thing, what stood out for me the most was the characters, favourites were Martin and Sol. Thought they were really well written. Endymion is a little more cliched and.. predictable, but it was still a really enjoyable read.
    August 31 09:03 AM
  • Vakarian12 Hyperion Cantos is a great series. Which book are you on? Still need to finish the last
    August 31 07:19 AM
  • osmark86 I hope you dig it. I think it's one of the better bm releases I've head this year so far.
    August 28 05:04 PM
  • osmark86 oi mate. have you checked out Schammasch - Contradiction? criminally under the radar this year.

  • Wizard I think I will ask you this question then...what do you think of power electronics? I love dirty/ noisy recordings ALOT!!
    August 24 09:19 PM
  • Wizard But it's so drawn out and not nearly as aggressive. Even the split they did with Sun Worship is kind of weak.
    August 23 07:32 AM
  • Wizard Dude, that Unru Demo is better than a 3, way way better. It's like Converge gone bm which ****ing rules.
    August 22 09:48 PM
  • Hawks I haven't dude, I'll have to check.
    August 22 12:51 PM
  • MoosechriS Hey dude, saw your comment on ptc about the arizmenda tape. It looks like the problem with the original sound was the tape dubs, ive got both tapes (original btc
    August 21 03:55 AM
  • Wizard The D-beat your hearing is the fundamental punk influence the entire genre was spawned from.
    August 17 09:49 AM
  • Wizard Great band dude. I don't hear the D-bear though, just some awesome old school atmospheric bm worship
    August 17 09:48 AM
  • Wizard Doesn't get more backwoods kvlt than this:https://www.google.ca/?gws_rd=ssl#q=cobalt ontarioBrought my guitar/ pedal/ headphones/ extension cord with me, sat out by the Montreal River and blasted some bm on a foggy morning.
    August 17 09:47 AM
  • Wizard Will give it a listen when I get a moment. Just drove 7hrs from a cottage.
    August 16 07:24 PM
  • MoosechriS it's a pretty lengthy comp though so i'll need a few hours free to do it all properly, which at the moment isn't much of an option with work sifts and a 4 month old daughter to look after. I'm due some time off soon though so should hopefully get the chance then
    August 16 03:50 PM
  • MoosechriS yeah the comp is cool, i picked it up for the 2 unreleased tracks that were on it as i already had the alone as owt and agbrigg beast demos from the original tape releases along with the old ways, once more comp. I'm hopefully going to rip the old ways once more comp for the blog at some point in the future once i get enough free time as it's pretty much non existent online apart from a rip i did a few years ago that may still be floating around.
    August 16 03:48 PM
  • Hyperion1001 haha everyone asks me that question, but no, i made it a long, long time ago (if you see anyone else on the internet with this username, its most likely me) because it was one of the moons of saturn and i thought it was sweet. however, i HAVE read the hyperion cantos but its totally unrelated to this username lol.
    August 15 11:51 PM
  • Wizard I've heard new Nachtmystium a few times and it's decent.
    August 3 08:03 AM
  • TalonsOfFire Cool thanks
    July 25 10:45 AM
  • Wizard I give up hahahaha it may sound like borrowed bm but it's played with passion!
    July 21 07:31 AM
  • Wizard But the production is much better and gives the album a more aggressive feel?
    July 20 03:50 PM
  • osmark86 yeah it's hella short. they should've made it 4 tracks at least.
    July 17 11:00 AM
  • osmark86 saw your soundoff on Dressed In Streams - The Search for Blood. that album sounds amazing.
    July 17 10:14 AM

  • YakNips I'm not sure, it's the word you used to describe Brand New
    July 8 09:48 PM
  • YakNips Hey, what's that amazing word you use to describe s*** that sucks? twaddle or bobbins?
    July 8 06:24 PM
  • Evreaia you have a dl link for that Disemballerina album by any chance?
    July 8 10:07 AM
  • Wizard I'm honestly stupid when it comes to uploading ; p.
    June 29 08:19 AM
  • Wizard At least you're willing to try out new music that might not be up your alley.
    June 28 07:02 AM
  • Wizard Hahahaha you obviously don't enjoy noise rock or any bands from the AM Rep scene.
    June 28 07:01 AM
  • Wizard I don't know where to upload, never done it before hahaha. It looks like I'm not persuading you anyways : p.
    June 25 11:07 AM
  • Wizard So I just listened to a song off their bandcamp and I was right, it's a s*** upload. Seriously, the album just has this visceral, raw anger to it. I promise, it ain't studio.
    June 25 07:42 AM
  • Wizard Totally agree with your rating on new Tombs as well. Kind of feel like they're digging in a little too deep into their comfort zone.
    June 24 10:30 PM
  • Wizard You have a terrible rip of it. I got my pre-order a week before it was released and fell in love with it and the production. I mean, listen to the last 4 mins of 'V: The Process of Self-Immolation' and tell me that doesn't get obnoxiously noisy throughout the repeating riff. It sounds like someones blasting out your ears. Kind of reminds me of the production Austin Lund does on Panopticon.
    June 24 10:29 PM
  • Wizard Wtf, that album is damn gritty dude. Listen again, I would rate er 4.2-4.5. Really, really tight songwriting, execution, and perfect production.
    June 24 11:17 AM
  • Wizard Hey, some more awesome bm: http://news360.com/article/244020270

    June 21 06:15 PM
  • MoosechriS hey dude, just seen you were after the forgotten spell rip of opening the skies... If you check on pervert the church it should still be there, i put my own rip up a while ago. Also the forgotten spell / nosvrolok split should be up there too which probably contains forgotten spells best material in the way of galaxis necro.
    June 21 06:11 PM
  • climactic thanks so much dude u rock
    June 17 02:20 AM
  • Rastapunk Thanks for the suggestion! I do like the new Isomnium but I get bored with the monotone growling after a while for now :P. I'm digging In Flames Jester Race too, don't know if it's melodeath :)
    June 11 06:04 AM
  • Crysis I love it, adds in a touch of something completely unexpected. It works in the context of the track as a whole because the entire thing is kind of a genre mind****.
    June 10 04:33 PM
  • Hawks I been busy as hell with everything my man. Haven't been on the site in a while. :[ How you been?
    June 9 12:14 AM

    June 8 09:36 AM
  • Wizard Dude, can you find me a link for Sun of the Blind - Skullreader?
    June 7 07:39 AM
  • sniper better is pretty subjective i guess but def different, clearer and more bassy. it's probably yr speakers try with headphones. it's not subtle u should hear the difference.
    June 5 12:38 AM
  • Wizard YESSSS DUDE. I was actually thinking that too considering Chris Bruni distributes most of his albums when they're released.
    June 4 09:16 PM
  • Wizard The first track on it rips so hard and fast and then kind of loses energy throughout. He would benefit greatly from a major label backing.
    June 4 07:08 AM
  • sniper worked fine, thanks dude very much appreciate it.
    June 4 02:23 AM
  • sniper lol i must have been shouting you at the same time. thank you dude!

  • Wizard Okay, so another high-five goes out to you for Fyrnask. I don't usually ask for rec's from anyone (I like to cherry pick from everybody's lists hahahaha) but I will come to you from now on regarding bm. Have you seen my monumental black metal list (possibly the biggest one on the net).
    May 25 09:04 AM
  • osmark86 Oi have you drunk in the majesty that is Ifing yet? Atmo bm done right with some delicious folky vibes. Excellent 2014 release.

    May 18 09:14 AM
  • climactic congrats on locating the secret lost opeth album
    May 17 08:15 PM
  • Wizard That Sun Worship album is like atmospheric bm of the year, hands down no contenders whatsoever.
    May 16 10:09 PM
  • Wizard Checking out a song now and I love it. Thanks for that.
    May 15 09:17 PM
  • Wizard If you dislike everything else you've heard by them, this won't change your mind. I love their more hypnotic stuff that represents the fundamentals of what great black metal used to possess. Check out this tune off Screech Owl and tell me you don't get lost in it's stomping madness:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j3PL_bpmVW8Crank that s*** with headphones, smoke a dooby and relax.
    May 14 09:05 PM
  • Wizard I wish I had the time to cover all my metal bases. Thanks for this!
    April 28 09:15 PM
  • Wizard Panopticon has a new album coming out?
    April 28 09:11 PM
  • Wizard Thanks for the tip for the new Swan album. And yeah, new Lord Mantis has metal AOTY written all over it.
    April 25 07:12 AM
  • Diamondize Yeah dude, as soon as I got done listening to it one time I already knew that I'm getting that on vinyl.
    April 18 01:41 AM
  • CaptainDooRight Thanks bro. I had listened to some of the tracks when it was previewed a few weeks back and I enjoyed. I'll make sure to give it a proper listen as well, in full.
    April 16 01:42 AM
  • Wizard Sound awesome dude. Thanks for the rec.
    April 6 07:59 AM
  • climactic wtf is that young sinatra thing and how does it even exist lol
    April 5 04:08 PM
  • Wizard Then you will like my newly posted review for it : ).
    March 27 08:23 PM
  • Wizard And bump that rating for "The Invisible Mountain". That album should send you into a hypnotic state of mind!
    March 27 07:43 AM
  • Wizard Gog - Ironworks, any other album by Horseback, that's about it. Totally unique band.
    March 27 07:42 AM
  • Wizard I have to apologize to you about the new Twilight album. It's my favourite out of the 3 because it takes a huge industrial turn rather than just pulling a simple bm approach. And wtf about the production that you and everyone else are complaining about. My rip has some serious umphhhhh to it and imo, it's perfectly grimy!
    March 21 10:28 PM
  • dragoth Haven't found the time, got one i'm planning, just need to do it
    March 7 12:03 PM
  • CaptainDooRight same here
    March 5 12:24 PM
  • CaptainDooRight Yeah I know. I just wanted to be clear that I'm repping Heero rather than the actual show
    March 5 11:03 AM
  • RoyalImperialGuard If that's the way you feel then you're missing out big time. Im guessing you don't jam Arghoslent or Grand Belial's Key? Occult Crypt's Exterminate is an excellent mix of melodic black metal and martial folk.
    March 5 07:32 AM
  • CaptainDooRight No it's Heero Yuy
    March 5 12:22 AM
  • RoyalImperialGuard Do you even Teutonic Brotherhood bro? Whatcha know bout dat early 90's bm life dawg?
    March 4 10:09 PM
  • Wizard I like that album quite a bit. Flows well and pulls hard at my heartstrings!
    March 4 08:58 PM
  • CaptainDooRight same here bro im more into the actiony stuff too and I almost turned it off but the story is pretty dam good and I hadn't laughed like that in a while so I stuck with it. def the perfect change of pace, i really like it, but yeah as soon as i finish im all in for the ACTION BABY :D
    March 3 12:44 PM
  • CaptainDooRight yeah man that's a pretty sweet show. I need to finish it too, I'm about half way through I think. It dragged a little towards the middle for me. I'm currently watching 'Welcome to the NHK' which is really awesome! also I'm watching Ergo Proxy and FMA, both awesome, I'm focusing mainly on NHK since its only like 26 episodes.
    March 3 09:35 AM
  • CaptainDooRight I just kinda lost my passion for it. I still love music more then ever tho. It just seems like a waste of time. I mean I like to make lists still though with albums I'd recommend to others (see my last ten lists) I mean it takes a lot of effort and work and I guess I just would rather spend all my time watching animes and creating music :D
    March 2 09:35 PM
  • DarkNoctus i certainly don't get the comparison but i still love you [:

    December 17 04:29 PM
  • Wizard I have it on cd and that's the best quality you're going to find. The cd and rip sounded similar. Sorry dude.
    December 11 07:26 AM
  • Wizard What band are you looking for a good rip of? Rahu?
    December 10 07:25 AM
  • Wizard I agree and some fools around here actually believe it's part of the recording.
    December 8 08:46 AM
  • Wizard Great find btw, a lot of amazing stuff from the Twilight Circle.
    December 6 07:32 AM
  • Wizard I laugh when people talk about production quality of bm when for the most part, all they're listening to is the s***ty rip of that song that was never intended to be listened to in that quality.
    December 6 07:32 AM
  • Wizard The only reason someone might have a problem with these good quality mp3s is that they've already heard the ripped tape version and decided in their mind that that's the only presentation possible for the music. However, I own the Without Circumference on tape and the quality is about the same as the mp3 (a little less compressed obviously).

  • SadAndHolyGlow I am a ba-NA-na!
    October 10 10:16 AM
  • SadAndHolyGlow Right, I read that on his FaceBook. That type of style mixed with black metal usually goes pretty well. Maybe he's completely dropping black metal, too, though. Who knows. He's really unpredictable.
    October 2 12:03 AM
  • SadAndHolyGlow Nice. Well, I LOVE Verwustung. BY the way, his newest and last effort is coming out soon.
    October 1 04:43 PM
  • SadAndHolyGlow Cool Verwustung ratings.
    September 30 07:43 PM
  • Jom I'm sorry that happened and I need to get to the bottom of it because you're not the first that this has happened to without warning. There is no staff log but I can investigate for sure... just, you know, in the meantime, don't blast entire discogs with straight 1s. Cheers

  • Wizard New Panopticon is perty good.
    May 28 07:22 AM
  • DarkNoctus it was more in the atmosphere and attempt at s***ty builds, and the production, at least the vocals in the new one are pretty inoffensive [:
    May 23 10:26 PM
  • DarkNoctus instead of being sugar-coated wittr it's now envy but black metal with none of the pissing about, i like it! [:
    May 21 10:15 PM
  • Wizard Fair enough. Are you trolling with that 5 cuz it certainly got to me hahahaha.
    May 11 08:41 PM
  • Wizard And you know as well as me that new Black Sabbath will be a 1/5.
    May 11 07:18 AM
  • Wizard But they're one of the best examples of atmospheric bm. I just don't like their last two album very much but "Forgotten Legends" and "Autumn Aurora"....classics dude.
    May 11 07:17 AM
  • Wizard Dude, Microcosmos it the greatest Drudkh album, 3.5 wtf?
    May 10 07:12 AM
  • BallsToTheWall Never even listened to the band. It's really just a inside joke for my hatred for hipster black metal.
