| MisterTornado W H A T. for some reason i thought you didn't have it, but had leyland's eager to tear the stars instead. i should have bought it right when it came out! its so expensive now =\ worth every penny surely but i'm unfortunately broker than a nervous man in a four dollar room. which makes me want to listen to the caretaker even more.
| MisterTornado are you, like i, on an intense quest to own an empty bliss beyond this world on wax?
| MisterTornado Ya I've been meaning to check them out too, he's got so much projects. It'll happen Pat.........one day ~
| MisterTornado That's beautiful Pat, one day we'll have a drink to that ~
| MisterTornado ILY more but that's totally cool we're eternal oh well
| MisterTornado yup yup, still need to check. anything for my pat ~
| MisterTornado ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ another classic patrick recommendation ~~~~~~
| MisterTornado soak 'em up all you want pat. say, what kind of films do you like?
| MisterTornado patrick! how ya been? will do, seen it floating around.
| Kiran i really love them as well, so that's great to hear dude! any idea if they're working on anything new?
| WeepingBanana appreciate it dude. i'm actually pretty behind on stuff from this year but i really liked the new Merchandise album. other favorites are the new Purling hiss and this psych-noise-garage-post-punk band Destruction Unit
| jefflebowski excellently timed recommendation there - about a day after i saw your post i starting reading really encouraging reviews of the new dodos album too...after listening to the tracks you posted i went and listened to 'no color' (picked one at random from the three) and loved it - it's poppy and melodic whilst still maintaining a certain rawness and grit similar bands don't have. looks like my listening schedule is sorted for the next few weeks, thanks!
| jefflebowski ...perfect from now on is, and there's nothing wrong with love sounds on first listen like it could be just as good, it's nice to find some indie that is good enough to interrupt my daily meadowlands rotation...and re: marquee moon, it's effectively the greatest guitar album ever made, and i highly recommend tom verlaine's solo stuff if you really like it
| jefflebowski yeah, i can sort of get how hearing laughing stock first would take the shine off spirit of eden, as the latter is essentially a dry run for the former, 'inheritance' is still one of my all-time faves though...with regards to built to spill they've always been one of those highly respected indie bands where i had one or two of their most acclaimed albums but never really listened to them seriously, but then i've actually been making an effort recently and only just realized how ****ing great...
| jefflebowski also a quick skim through your many 5's has got me listening to built to spill again, today just gets better and better...
| jefflebowski thanks very much dude, i could say the same for your good self! but yeah, while i suspect i wrote that talk talk soundoff in a post-listening state of hyperbolic glee, it's a stone-cold classic without a doubt - i see you enjoyed it too from the rating - if you're not familiar with their other stuff you absolutely have to check out spirit of eden, it's very similar to laughing stock if a tad less meandering and a little bit more straightforward
| MisterTornado ...and Greg Stuart - Dystonia Duos, Julianna Barwick - Nepenthe, Sean McCann - Music for Private Ensemble, and Benoit Pioulard - Hymnal. Oh very cool, lovely record. I hope your doing well too Pat, it's nice to see you again around these pages.
| MisterTornado It will come, but don't hold your breath. I need you alive. Autechre's Exai and Jefre-Cantu Ledesma's Devotion have impressed me the most this year. Some other great albums are Joe Panzner
| MisterTornado Have you checked out the new Phosphorescent? Have a feeling you'd dig the hell out of it
| MisterTornado I saw Sigur Ros live last week, it was mind blowing. Loving the new EP, the LP should be their best in a while. Mhm agreed, loving the hell out of the new Kurt Vile. It's kinda like a sequel to Jim O'Rourke's Insignificance.
| MisterTornado It's cool man. Sweet, hope you like 'em. Doom95@live.com
| MisterTornado Awesome, hope you like it man. Haha, that's understandable. In the meantime check out Rob Mazurek Octet - Skull Sessions, it's a fantastic mix of wild and abrasive jazzscapes that's weirdly at-home and comfortable sounding. Sounds like bulls***, but once you listen to it I think you'll hear it too.
| MisterTornado Hummingbird was pretty good, dug The National / chamber-pop vibe. You been busy with other stuff? Been listening to alot of new Free Improvisation stuff from 2011 and 2012, finding alot of hidden gems in that world (are you into anything like that, in particular free jazz?) I notice you've got Pet Sounds 5'd, so you NEED to check out Maston's Shadows. Came out recently, blend of '60s psych-pop and more modern chamber pop (Grizzly Bear, The National, etc). My favorite pop album of the year so far
| MisterTornado I hear from most people it's bad, but I've also heard it's great from others. I'll definitely watch it soon though, I need more Leland hymns and Gordon hollers in my life.
| MisterTornado Sure did Pat, what a show. Probably will watch the whole thing again soon, to pick up the pieces y'know. Do it, his album before in 2011 is just as good (if not better).
| MisterTornado Daniel Romano - Come Cry With Me. True country in 2013, I think your going to dig this.
| Trebor. You like David Lynch but not bjork :(
| MisterTornado Yeah you could do that, I'm sure your opinion of those 25-30 is still good!
| MisterTornado It's a wild ride mate. I'm a little ways into season 2, eagerly waiting for David's character to pop up!
| MisterTornado So I got the Twin Peaks Gold box set for Christmas. Man, hell of a show.
| MisterTornado Oh cool, glad somebody's getting some use out of those. Definitely, alot of potential there. Now if only one of them would put out an LP of that kind of quality.
| MisterTornado Mhm, alot of great unknowns on there. SELA (who I see you've already discovered), Contact Lens, 18 Carat Affair, and MJ Linckoln are really good beat makers roaming around bandcamp too.
| MisterTornado Mhm, that's a good way to describe it. He's got an album before it I haven't heard yet, probably good too (judging from the cover art). What albums have you been digging in 2012 most?
| MisterTornado Cheers Pat. I figured you'd dig Cemeteries, got kind of a twin peaks vibe. Keep trying new stuff out man, only way to stay vital!
| MisterTornado Oh yes, I'm a huge Jeck fan. Added his discography to the database actually lol. Love Stoke, brillant record. Something about the way he records is absolutely fascinating.
| MisterTornado Yeah the new Grizzly Bear is great, their best album yet. I haven't explored much Dylan beyond Highway 61, but yeah this new album of any grit and is just dull. I've heard the new Mono is pretty weak, probably will check it out eventually but right now I'll take your word for it. Will do mate, hope you like those recs.
| MisterTornado Ah yeah I know how that is, down to just weekends now since school started back up. That seems to be the big drawback for some of people with The Seer, the fact that it's long, but it all reaches such incredible heights from that length (addressing build up and atmosphere) that it's all too compelling to deny. I see where your coming from with Ocean Roar, haven't heard all of his stuff, but that darker and more atmospheric side of ambient folk intrigues me.
| MisterTornado As for a couple obscurities you may be interested in, check out Gimu - A Silent Stroll On Sombre St, which at this point in the year is far away and my favorite ambient release of the year. Quite reminiscent of William Basinski's tape loops if your familiar with those. Also see your into jazz too, so give King Tears Bat Trip's self titled album a spin. It's two massive, insane splices of free jazz that I think you might dug. Anyway, hope you enjoy some of these!
| MisterTornado Thanks for the words Pat, it's appreciated mate. A couple of high profile stuff you may want to check out: it looks like your a Bob Dylan fan so you'll definitely want to check out his latest (even though I really disliked it, with exceptions to the first and last tracks). It's getting alot of good reviews from fans so give that a shot if you like. Also see your into post-rock, and for that you NEED to hear Swans new album, The Seer. Incredible album, couldn't recommended it enough.
| MisterTornado Haha, damn. Thanks. I'd be down for that, I'll shoot you something soon. What a perfect setting to listen to that aye? Still need to pick up a physical copy just so I can stare at that cover art all day.
| MisterTornado If you do manage to find it, I bet you'll like it alot. Kinda sounds like me searching for Twin Peaks online. Nothing much, listening to all I can these days. How about yourself?
| MisterTornado Yeah I got that vibe too. Have you heard the new Mount Eerie yet? I bet you'll dig it, I think it's better than Clear Moon.
| MisterTornado Yeah I did, great album. Humid as hell, desert drone stoner jams.
| MisterTornado Their new album is fun, bet they were good live. Pumice - Puny, Pond - Beard, Wives, Denim (under Pond (AU) in on Sputnik), DIIV - Oshin,
| MisterTornado Ah hell yeah, album destroys. Listening to albums, you?
| MouseMan Haha I'm diggin the built to spill list. Those guys are one of my all time favorites.
| MisterTornado Oh, didn't know The Microphones and Mount Eerie was the same guy. Interesting
| MisterTornado Always been interested in checking out Glow Pt. 2, I'll have to commit to it this time. Is this early work better than the new album?
| MisterTornado Mount Eerie was good, liked the little ambient passages here and there. The occasional female voice threw me off a bit, but the rest sounded lovely. Have a feeling this one will grow on me, thanks for the REC.
| MisterTornado Haha, yeah it's not for everybody. "it's got fantasy lyrics and some electronic brush strokes." that made me laugh, I'll check it out. Haven't listened to Mount Eerie yet either, but I will asap. Might as well do it on the same day, since they both sound like they've got the whole folky thing going. Make it a folk day.
| MisterTornado Been wanting to give that Mount Eerie a try, sounded like a haunter.
| MisterTornado For the record, I don't think it's trying to be anything authentic. It's looking at two ideas and saying, hey let's push this somewhere new, and creates a new identity for the material altogether. But I often times bridging such contrasting elements comes off as gimmicky and pretentious to people.
| jredmond nice soundoffs guys. sooner or later i know a review will pop out of ya. birth that REVIEW DADDDDD
| MisterTornado MUSIC VIDEO! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6QJpY2VNP0E
| MisterTornado Time to check this one out Pat: http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/16452-kill-for-love/. I haven't heard it yet, but reading through the review briefly made me think of you
| mikeg1992 Hello sir. Saw a couple of your comments around sputnik and wanted to share my undying love for David Lynch with you. Also, you have good taste in music.
| MisterTornado s***, I haven't. Need to get my hands on that soon, where could I find that at? Hope you enjoy the albums (and can find them)
| MisterTornado Yeah it's a bitch isn't it? I've just got to try extra hard to find new stuff now, which ultimately sucks but's how it the cards are falling right now. Hm, top 5 ...I'll try and see what you've already listened to and take those out (The Caretaker, Grimes). Lotus Plaza - Spooky Action At A Distance, Chairlift - Something, Saltillo - Monocyte, Himuro Yos***eru - Our Turn, Anytime (on bandcamp), and Wiley - Evolve or Be Extinct. Give those a try.
| jredmond i was raised on classical nucca.
| Sowing would you mind writing a very brief (5-10 sentences) summary/soundoff for the song you chose for the sputnik playlist? i think the feature would look a lot better with writing. if so, please let me know and email it to sowingsputnik@gmail.com. thanks again for being a part of things!
| MisterTornado Ponyo loves ham lol. Check out Saltillo - Monocyte, album is quality.
| jredmond listened to burial and les discrets the other night along the hudson at 9pm. pretty cool, but not sure i'm on board with the 4.5 ave rating.
| MisterTornado Did you know if you go to this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LL998ajnjN4
| MisterTornado Wholy s***. Thank you for bringing this to my attention.
| MisterTornado Yeah Opus At The End of Everything is pretty strong, I know you dug his one last year so I bet you'll dig this one alot too. Yeah I know that feeling, I've done some catching up on last year's albums as well. Heard anything worth noting so far?
| MisterTornado Yeah it's been a bitch lately, but there is a way to get around a solid amount of the mediafire ones. Just type "site:mediafire.com [band name/album name]" into google and copy the link of the mediafire link while your still in google and paste the link onto a new URL. Hopefully that makes sense. ****, that's awesome man. So now you've got both An Empty Bliss and the new one? Christ, bet your vinyl collection is a ****ing art gallery.
| MisterTornado I agree, really only been listening to big name stuff recently. Yes you do, great little album. I'll shoot you a link if you need it, just tell me where to send it. And no I haven't unfortunately, but rest assured, it'll happen in due time. Actually watched Eraserhead today, ironically.
| MisterTornado Hey listen, even if I don't care for a particular album you've recommended, I still appreciate it. I'm always looking for new stuff, and I'm glad to get them. Yeah I agree, I think length had alot to do with it. I need to read that p4k review. And check out Chairlift - Something, nice little synth/indie-pop album.
| MisterTornado Symmetry was pretty good, though alot of it went in one ear and out the other. Interesting album though, nice to have in the background, as those electronics are quite soothing. The closer was quite nice, that one caught my attention most.
| MisterTornado Will listen to Symmetry sometime this weekend, that cover alone looks juicy.
| BigHans sorry man. I cant say I saw Alex Smith being the hero coming though
| MisterTornado Nice nice, I need to do that myself. So pumped for that album. Check out Todd Terje - It's The Arps EP and Celer - An Immensity Merely To Save Life
| jredmond "shelley's the kinda girl that'll make you wish you spoke a little french!"
| dnor I finished your David Lynch picture. You're welcome.
| MisterTornado Check out Observer Drift - Corridors, strongest album I've heard so far this year. http://observerdrift.bandcamp.com/album/corridors
| Thanntos Yea dude, Empty Bliss is crazy good. I wrote 'Bioshock' next to it on my list because it could totally be the Soundtrack to that game. Very classic 50s, eerie vibe to it, very similar to the OST. And yea I saw that he has a new release coming. Very pumped.
| STOP SHOUTING! thanks patrick! your soundoffs are very entertaining. you should write reviews as well.
| BaselineOOO I don't think you will like it, but if you want to give it a shot get Shouso Strip if you like jazzy rock and Karuki Zamen Kuri no Hana (Kalk Samen Kuri no Hana) if you like art pop.
| MisterTornado I heard about that one, sounded interesting. I thought the real Drive soundtrack was pretty dull, but this one looked like a different beast. Cheers, I'll listen soon
| MisterTornado Yeah vinyl is alot of fun, I have a player but the volume's ****ed so I can't really listen to anything on it. Patience is currently my most anticipated of the year, along with Ufomammut's two new albums.
| MisterTornado Awesome, glad you liked it. By the way ... http://pitchfork.com/news/44972-new-release-the-caretaker-patience-after-sebald/
| MisterTornado Ha, 'tis a nice one. And yes, try these; Loma Prieta - I.V. and Alcest - Les voyages de L'âme
| DayMan flyyy eagles flyyyyy. E A G L E S EAGLESSSS..stink :(
| MisterTornado Looking forward to your list mate. And yes, it's been a magnificent year, can't wait to see what 2012 has in store. Any albums your looking forward too? And ah yes, one of my very favorites of the year. Cheers!
| MisterTornado Are you going to make a best of 2011 list? I'd really like to see one from you.
| jefflebowski as per recent music, I'm afraid I haven't much to offer except what you've probably heard anyway - new wilco and st. vincent albums are excellent, Wild Flag by Wild Flag is a good one to check out if you're into intelligent yet straightforward rock. Wild Beasts - Smother is understated and very sophisticated pop, and New Brigade by Iceage is very promising post-punk, if a little raw and jagged. I also enjoyed Bill Callahan's Apocalypse
| silentpotato will do, probably will take me a minute to get around to but ill make sure to let u know
| MisterTornado \m/. It's his darkest yet, it's quite nice. And thanks for the RECs, I'm putting together my year-end list right now, but i'll try and get to those soon! Cheers!
| silentpotato well... funnily enough, i opened up my itunes today and noticed that i already have it downloaded. so yeah, ill listen lol
| MisterTornado Oh yeah I heard it early on this year, really cool album. There's some videos on YouTube of him doing it live in his studio, it's remarkable stuff. And I'll check out The Flashblub when I get the chance, cheers!
| silentpotato hmm, im really picky with post-rock, i find all too much of it is boring as **** and exactly the same as all the rest. am i assured that this will not be the case with this album?
| silentpotato yeah dude, came as a bit of a surprise to me actually
| MisterTornado Google search "[album title here] rar" or and download it from either mediafire, filetram, a blogspot website which has the link, or anything else really. Never had problems finding albums that way, I'd recommend doing that.
| jefflebowski sorry for spamming, i got a bit carried away....
| jefflebowski ....So basically i'd recommend starting with Repeater or 13 songs, and the argument - though they come at opposite ends of their career, you see both sides of the band - the mature, RELATIVELY subdued and melodic side, and the no less powerful, catchy punk side. After that, try In On The Killtaker and Red Medicine, then End Hits and Steady Diet. Happy listening!
| jefflebowski Steady Diet of Nothing, which is similar to repeater but more of a transitional album, In On The Killtaker, which is their angriest, most aggressive record, and a personal favorite of mine. Then comes Red Medicine, which is more loose, experimental and 'playful' than the previous, but still pretty abrasive and equally as good. Then you get End Hits, which is even more diverse and disjointed (definitely not the place to start), and back to The Argument again....
| jefflebowski *deep breath* and as far as Fugazi goes, they're my second favorite after mingus, so I'm glad you asked :). Basically, their early stuff (13 songs, Repeater) is a lot more hardcore/dub/punk influenced, though still markedly more intelligent and sophisticated than most bands at that time. As their career went on, they got more experimental and nuanced, culminating in The Argument, which is for me their best, most mature album, and actually fairly accessible too. In between this, you have...
| jefflebowski ....but I actually prefer Let My Children Hear Music, which is a little more orchestrated but marginally more accessible. Another good starting point, now i come to think about it, is Mingus Mingus Mingus Mingus Mingus, which is re-done, sometimes completely different versions of his 'ah um' era songs after he did black saint. Changes 1 and 2 are also good late-period works well worth checking out
| jefflebowski I'd drink to that! Anyway, as far as mingus goes, Ah Um is the best place to start - for his more traditional stuff i'd recommend Blues and Roots and Pithecanthropus Erectus, then move on to The Clown and Oh Yeah, which are both a bit weirder. After that, you get to his more orchestral/"big-band" stuff, which is generally considered to be his greatest period, though less accessible. The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady is the classic, and obviously a work of complete genius....
| MisterTornado Yeah I heard it, great album! Consistent as hell, not a single weak link. That was my first Nujabes album, so I'll definitely check into his back catalogue, it's pretty massively acclaimed here on Sputnik so it ought to be good. I think you'll like the Dale Cooper album, it's a pretty challenging listen, so tell me what you think after you've spun it. Haha, besides The Caretaker isn't exactly the kind of s*** you'd drink too, unless of course your in a desolate hotel.
| jefflebowski moreover, you dig Elliott Smith and have A Tribute To Jack Johnson at a 5, all you need is more Mingus and I'm yours
| MisterTornado I remember listening to that album last year and liking it alot. The only thing that comes to mind is Caribou, he put out an album last year that had some similarities too it.
| MisterTornado Haha yeah I love that movie, so great around the holidays. And yeah I really dug The Collective, wasn't expecting it to sound so ...lounge jazzy. Not that it really sounds jazzy, but there seems to be some prog-jazz type instrumentation going on in that album. Your right, certainly a grower, but as of now one of the best metal releases of the year. So drinking over An Empty Bliss? Well, the act of drinking itself is a bit of an empty bliss in itself.
| MisterTornado Alright I'll look into those. Good luck on the vinyl listen, should be glorious. And I'll definitely check out The Collective.
| MisterTornado Hey you were right, I ended up enjoying No Color the most! Some nice rhythms going on throughout that album, really liked it. Can't say the same for All Eternals Deck and Oh, Fortune however. Not bad albums by any means, I just don't care for the kind of indie folk sound they carried. Thanks for the RECs, keep 'em comin.
| MisterTornado Oh jeeze, I bet that cover art looks so good. Tell me how she sounds on wax!
| MisterTornado Yeah it's breathtaking, and that's a good idea. I'm sure it really comes alive after that. I've been meaning to hear the new Mountain Goat's album, and I will definitely listen to those ASAP, thanks.
| MisterTornado Oh my god man, that's awesome! I'm hoping to get it for christmas. I absolutely love the shining, and that ballroom sequence just gets a whole new energy every time I've seen it since.
| MisterTornado Do you mean We Stay Together? It's really dark, lo-fi, and droney under some blackened club beats. I think you might like it, definitely give it a shot!
| MisterTornado Yeah it's some kind of glitch, who knows. RECs: The Stepkids, East of the Wall, The Midnight Eez,
| MisterTornado If it makes you feel any better, it was a really high 3.
| MisterTornado Welcome back, my message about intrigue was longer, but it cut off the rest for whatever reason. I liked intrigue 1 best, it sounds like a VHS version of Terminator 2 Judgement Day. 2 has some good sounds throughout, it's just monotonous.
| MisterTornado Nah it's cool, I'll try and find it somewhere. I haven't heard all of his stuff on The Caretaker, but from the couple of back albums I've heard it's great stuff. Most of it's a lot darker than Empty Bliss.
| MisterTornado Yeah there's apparently going to be a forth volume released sometime soon that will complete the collection. No problem, I think so too. By the way, I recommend you check out Rich Aucoin - We're All Dying To Live, a really impressive indie-rock record that does a lot of genre-smashing, if your into that kind of thing.
| MisterTornado Oh cool, thanks man! Is that the latest one, volume 3?
| MisterTornado Ha, I'll just trap him inside of a mysterious blue box and keep him dreaming for a while
| MisterTornado Alright so the new David Lynch is pretty good don't get me wrong, but it's clouded with too much misdirection to keep me interest for 60 minutes. It sounded like he used the same ramshackle highway rhythm and guitar twang on about five of the tracks, though I enjoy his C-3PO-ish vocal enough to give it a low 3/5.
| MisterTornado THC haha. Looking forward to it, I've dug the songs posted up onto YouTube before hand.
| MisterTornado Looking forward to your reviews. I'm not too familiar with the genre, but they sound interesting, I'll check them out thanks.
| MisterTornado Though if you want to give it a shot, I'd back you up 100%. I'm sure you could come up with something good!
| MisterTornado Thanks, but I wouldn't know what to say about it. It would require a hell of a lot more listens than the single one I gave it, and it clocking in at an hour and a half, I would be giving up some valuable time where I could be listening to other albums. I don't mean it as disrespect, it's just that I don't think it would be worth it, as I could see a legitimately positive review of Lulu being drowned by a bunch of faceless trolls.
| MisterTornado Damn, I think Lulu is great. At first I wasn't liking it much then I got around to track 4 or so and really got into it. It's a pretty unique listen, sort of reminds me of Captain Beefheart in a way.
| MisterTornado I'll listen to Lulu soon. I can understand your opinion of Disasterpeace, the whole 8-bit sound isn't for everybody. Glad your liking Causa Sui, it's criminally overlooked.
| MisterTornado Oh really you liked it? I hear it's just about the worse thing put out this year, but since you said your digging it, I will definitely give it a spin. I heard The Sea and Cake and I liked it alot! It's so modest sounding, and I like that alot. Hope you like Pure X and Casua Sui!
| MisterTornado Oh yeah the new Tom Waits is really great, have you heard it yet? I'll check out your RECs real soon, thanks! My RECs: Oneohtrix Point Never - Replica / Causa Sui - Pewt'r Sessions 1 / Pure X - Pleasure, enjoy!
| MisterTornado Glad your enjoying them so far. And haha it's not your fault, it's just not my kind of genre, though the album did have some pretty intense moments I dug.
| jredmond some miles davis aye? brings me back to the days of music and arts... Ill have to listen to the silent way again bc I see i havent rated it yet.
| MisterTornado Hip-Hop: Apollo Brown - Clouds, J.Rocc - Some Cold Rock Stuf. Electronic: Disasterpeace - Rise of the Obsidian Interstellar, Omar S - It Can Be Done But Only I Can Do It. Post-Rock: FareWell Poetry ? Hoping For The Invisible To Ignite, Disco Inferno - The Five EPs. I haven't heard that album yet, frankly I don't listen to post-hardcore. Though I'll definitely check it out.
| MisterTornado I'm new to Mark McGuire's solo work, was interested because I really liked Emerald's Does It Look Like I'm Here. Get Lost is alright and has potential, it just gets lost (no pun intended) in its monotonous acoustic atmosphere. But, I still recommend you give it a listen, you might like it.
| jredmond yea man, i listened to it 3 times. I could see how the green would help. But the "soulful auto tune" is executed way better by bon iver, or even sufjan. It just comes off as annoying on that record
| MisterTornado Haha, yeah that album is fantastic. I believe I found it on a rateyourmusic list someone made, though I don't remember exactly. Glad to hear your enjoying it though!
| MisterTornado Oh yeah? Glad to hear you enjoy the album. Did you pick it up on vinyl? I tend to listen to the album most around 12am - 6am. It's atmosphere just tends to work brilliantly around those dazed hours. And yes, that is indeed a young Stanley Kubrick.
| luci Thanks! My top 5 are James Blake (aoty), Ravedeath 1972, Sit Resist, A I A, Black Up.
| luci It's her best imo. I'm really pleased with it.
| taftie12 :PThe Electronic Anthology Project just takes the soul out of the songs. It was a fun and adventurous side-project, but I just don't think it turned out too well.
| jredmond new fang island album in the works, aw thiyt. cant wait for mt eerie
| KILL hardly listen to any new metal i mean i listen to s*** from the 70s 80s and 90s you know the true m/ s*** but my fav metal albums are death - symbolic, death - human, atheist - unquestionable presence, cynic - focus, heathen - victims of deception, judas priest - sad wings of destiny, megadeth - rust in peace, megadeth - peace sells, strapping young lad - city, anacrusis - manic impressions so yea check all those out they all rule hard as ****
| clercqie I just can't get into metal at all, actually :/ I love Bon Iver's new record as well, The Antlers were just decent I thought... Will def look up the rest, as I've heard a lot of good things about them :) But man, you have listened to a ton more albums than me already this year - I'm impressed
| clercqie I know, everyone who says there is filler on Exile is out of his mind. This year? Well, David Comes To Life has proven itself to be one of my fav albums of all time already. And otherwise Arctic Monkeys, Swarms and Amatorski have all released superb material :) And on September 20 dEUS releases Keep You Close, which could very well be my aoty ;) What are your favs so far?
| clercqie Just saw your Exile on Main St. soundoff: Right on, man!! :D
| jredmond yea man, when im not closing deals at work i can get away with listening to my ipod while working. I've made it a goal to try and get through all the albums ive collected the past few years.

| henryChinaski I'm flattered by the positive comments regarding my user name or avatar lately, thanks man ^^. Yeah B. Hicks was a genius, i guess he'd have enjoyed Sputnik. I'm currently reading Love All The People (by Hicks) which you might be familiar with. Such a great book. As for records of the year: Fireworks-Gospel; Defeater-Empty Days

| luschlotz Thanks for the WU LYF link! although I hated it. . . Vocals are the best part of the album, and they dont exactly shine. . . Well, guess Im the one who missed the chance to like an awesome album, it just didnt got to me at ANy time. THANKS AGAIN!!!!

| AtavanHalen Saying someone has a good taste in music is just a roundabout way of complimenting yourself. Loved new Death Cab, need to give it more listens.
| Chrisjon89 I haven't yet but I've been planning to. He's on one of Joanna Newsom's albums. I'll have a listen to it and get back to you. And Bon Iver, Bon Iver is now nearing 4.5.
| Chrisjon89 Besides the new Bon Iver, also been listening to For Emma alot. I started listening to High Violet by The National again. Alot of Kate Bush. Nothing too out of the ordinary. I've heard good things about The Middle East.
| Chrisjon89 I'm listening to Bon Iver, Bon Iver for the first time (survived the leak!!). 8 songs in and so far I'd peg it at 4 with massive potential to grow. From memory I felt the same about For Emma.
| GamemakerPW Hahaha, the last time I listened to Visitor I was in a pissed off mood at work. I've listened to it 3 times over the span of 3 months. Oddly, 2nd time I enjoyed most. I'll for sure give it another go soon though.
| IAmKickass 'Bastard' are one of the only albums in the world I've tried over and over again to listen to fully and failed every single time. The only song I can stand is Yonkers, an absolutely awesome song.
| GamemakerPW Thanks for the recommendation! I checked out The Recordings yesterday, enjoyed it but from what I've been reading it looks like I'll like their LP even more so I'm excited to get to that. But right now I can't stop listening to the new Frank Turner album, you heard that yet? dude rules
| GamemakerPW Thanks man! Love how you described that "album rating game blog" haha but really appreciate the feedback. Yeah I thought about how I could post it on here but I don't really know where or how I'd do that. Plus some people might get mad that it's not an actual album review. But anyway, yeah I've tried to get into Fleet Foxes but I just can't. Wish I would have done a better job on there explaining why I don't like it, but oh well I was happy with how it turned out for the most part. Thanks again
| GamemakerPW You seem like one of the few people that really likes to talk music on here, and we seem to have similar taste. I did an album comparison by category on my blog for The Antlers, Wild Beasts, Manchester Orchestra and Fleet Foxes and thought you might be interested, it's pretty long but if you have time to read it please do and let me know what you think, thanks. (This is the first time I've written about music) Link: http://ratingsandwriting.blogspot.com/2011/05/album-wars-may-2011.html

| Chrisjon89 No worries man. I spent about five minutes trying to figure out what I said. AOTY for me so far is probably PJ Harvey's 'Let England Shake', although I've been mainly listening to older stuff and have only rated 3 albums from this year. Maybe Bon Iver's will top that but I'm holding off listening to it. Also gotta hear the new Fleet Foxes, with Thrice, St Vincent and the Mars Volta supposedly having albums on the way. What about you? Is Bon Iver your number one so far this year? Take it easy

| mothercountry I have not seen lost highway. In fact, I don't think I've seen a lynch production other than 'Peaks'. I hope to finish Peaks in the next month, got a handful of episodes left. I'll put 'highway on my list. I love lost and really had no gripes with the show. Which I think stems from me watching all six seasons in less than a month. People that followed it for over half a decade, I could see them getting mad. Being strung out for that long. Have a great memorial day weekend buddy---
| mothercountry Speaking of spoiling the show, the guys here were talking in the Lynch 'lost highway' thread... Voila leland's name comes up and I hadn't even started watching the show. It doesn't really matter because I consider it in my top 2 favorite shows of all-time, along with Lost. If you got to episode 13, you only needed to watch one more to get to the revealing, I believe. I've watched 22/30 episodes so I'll be finished soon. I'll be sure to check out Mt. Eerie--
| mothercountry Bob is the guy who possessed leland, make sense?.. Anyways, the new Bon is superb. The 4 was an initial placeholder after 2 listens. I listened again today, I'm gonna bump it to a 4.5. It will be very hard to beat for AOTY.

| climactic amira venera landscape bored the hell out of me to be honest. blackwater park's my fav opeth album though. as for recommendations for more proggy metal, get cynic's 2 albums "traced in air" and "focus". and also animals as leaders self-titled album, it's insane instrumental stuff and you'll definitely like it
