| Sowing fantasy draft 6pm EST today
| Tundra Hey, I'd like to copy and paste your review if Periphery III but change things slightly to fit Periphery V a bit more, would that be cool? There wont be any ill intent there, will be just for meme purposes.
| jimthefish try the new new Self Insert EP "philias", you'd might like reviewing it bc its this weird fusion of hip-hop, experimental and emo. my fav off it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cbIlkN-iFb0
| Treeman Hello! Is this the place to get my profiled or banned? thanks!
| Toondude10 Daniel Tompkins solo album, it's actually really good and I think you'll enjoy it: https://open.spotify.com/album/4Owqli40kcZiHP1svqtUAX
| polygonfiction Thank you!I'll give it a couple days and make sure my usernames correctly.Looks like it'sd on the forums (and I can post again), but my old name still shows up on the normal page. I'll keep checking back. Thanks again!
| polygonfiction Also, it seems my username in my comment does not link to my profile correctly. This is a bit confusing. Or is there any way I could my account and start over?
| polygonfiction Hello!I hope this is an okay place to ask - I'm trying to get my username changed, but I'm unable to post in the forums at all (I'm not sure why. I don't think I've ever used the forums before since I've been on this site). I'm not sure who else to contact, so I thought I'd try a staff member.I'd like my username to be changed to polygonfiction. Can you help? This way, it will match my username on the other main music website I use. Thanks!
| someone Okay ,I'll figure something out. Thanks for the heads-up.
| someone Hi, I see you are a staff member, so maybe you could help me or at least clear things out for me: I am publishing these little things on some albums (like little opinions) and when I go to Edit, they always lose their formatting afterwards. Is this just my problem or does this happen often and what can I do?
| e210013 By mistake I added the same band to the site today. I'm talking about the Swedish prog band Atlas. So, I beg you to it please. I didn't see that it was already added to the site. Thanks.
| e210013 I'm not sure if this is the right place to call attention to a mistake i find on Sputnik. Inadvertently, someone added an album in a wrong band. I'm talking about the Italian prog band Aries. I added the band some time ago and recently someone added an album to them which doesn't belong to them, "Welcome Home". It's necessary to correct that. Thanks.
| buffserker1919 Hey man! Loving the reviews. Hopefully this one compels you enough to do a review: https://open.spotify.com/album/5sJgr9AFRCo5aBEN9UQWYe?si=vdb8X5EeRNOyvQhx6EklzA
| Toondude10 haha, I figured you'd say something like that
| Toondude10 Hope you're doing well, been a while and I figured I'd throw you another rec. I think you might like this. https://open.spotify.com/album/2OZMqW5rQr6zUG06ZwfR6L
| TheSpirit Hey, no worries, I totally understand! No rush at all :] congrats on the move!
| TheSpirit Thanks for getting back to me! I just shot you an email :]
| TheSpirit Hey :] Hope you are doing well! I was hoping maybe I could ask you about what I would need to do to make staff next year, and some of the stuff that maybe kept from getting this time around. I have an idea of some things I need to work on, but just for a more solidified idea!
| Toondude10 I think it's better than their first album personally
| Toondude10 you wanted Ashe O'Hara back, here he is: https://open.spotify.com/album/43FKHRkNZufTQhruwb1Whh
| Toondude10 new song by The Mercury Tree https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r9ScTcdo1CA
| Sowing thank you for rec'ing Benjamin Clementine. Once-in-a-decade kind of release. All future recs from you will leapfrog my list to #1 and become a priority!
| DinosaurJones Yo son, Have you listened to the Nova Collective? It's a bunch of dudes from BTBAM, Haken, and Cynic. SOMEHOW I THINK YOU'D ENJOY IT.
| Toondude10 being the fan of Haken that you are, I think you'll like this https://fifthdensityband.bandcamp.com/album/dominion-of-the-sun
| DinosaurJones Probably One Awkward Fish, but it might change on more listens.
| DinosaurJones I'm probably in the same boat as you... might become a 5 in time, but I'm still only on my first listen.
| LizHanson Good morning! Like to read your articles. Want to see your reaction review for Taylor Swift's new album Reputation. She went too far with this record and I'm shocked.
| Toondude10 hence why I said "kind of" :P Ever listen to Leprous at all?
| Toondude10 I recommend Arcane Roots, they kind of have a similar style except that they'rebett er inevery single way.
| Toondude10 not a huge fan of the new Contortionist either eh?
| TalonsOfFire I've had a couple users recently asking if you were reviewing it, and me, so was curious cause I thought you had it dibbed and I wasn't planning on it, but I might try to write something up this afternoon
| Toondude10 oh hey here's another band that I discovered on a f*cking whim that I think you'd like. https://www.goldenmp3.ru/mycelia/dawn
| Toondude10 I've been fine. Just casually listening to music as usual. Been some good stuff coming out recently, and I've been constantly been bingeing on Mercury Tree. Just can't get enough of them.
| Toondude10 So, how have you been. we really haven't heard much from you recently.
| Toondude10 Well I'm glad you liked it regardless. They're definitely someone to look out for in the near future. Probably my favorite song by them is Mazz Jathy in their Countenance album. Fantastic instrumental.
| Toondude10 and check out Countenance, that album is fantastic as well.
| Toondude10 well it came out last year, but yeah had I listened to it last year it would've made it on my best of list.
| Toondude10 so here's something I think you might be interested in. It's kinda like if Thank You Scientist fused with Animals as Leaders in a way. https://www.goldenmp3.ru/the-mercury-tree/permutations
| Toondude10 well congrats on the move then. Hope you'll check it out soon, cause I really enjoyed it.
| Toondude10 did you check out the new Aryeon yet? It's a lot of fun.
| kascetcadettt here's a thread where you can discuss how fantastic it is to be a part of this moment: http://www.sputnikmusic.com/list.php?listid=174557 \\\ don't be scared to share the news with other guys in case i missed someone out and keep shining in the light of this beautiful rock n roll fireplate, god bless, hasanmedia represent
| kascetcadettt sieg hi it's-a me smooth brotha from the umpteenth block taggin' em trainz comin' from your favorite station, word on the street is (artuma is gay) my new album came out recently and if that's the last thing i ever do let it be, leavin' the link in your hands my man: http://poleyounger.bandcamp.com/album/go-daylight \\\ feel FREE to 1 it if u didn't like my agressive self promotion campaign, feel FREE to thank me if this album saved your life
| Nocturtle No I haven't had them wiped yet so help me out good sir
| Gameofmetal Sounds cool, will give it a listen sometime
| Toondude10 I feel like you would enjoy this. I've been jamming this band for a couple days now. https://persefone1.bandcamp.com/album/aathma
| Gameofmetal it's weird because im just not really wowed by prog metal often these days but there were moments that really floored me on this thing. some of it, like "sleeping ivy" is kinda like the fusion of pop meets prog that periphery never really got right
| Gameofmetal that disperse record is good huh? ive been super interested in that since stumbling on surrender on youtube, prob gonna jam today
| Rigma Yeah go ahead and the review please homie. Sorry I posted in the wrong thread, don't know my way around the forums too well.
| danielito19 also what's the deal with the word del ete never appearing
| sputstitution are there any places I can post where only I can see my posts? this seems quite difficult.
| sputstitution it was an original quote by arsmoriendi, I was having a laff.
| FullOfSounds Thanks for the early unban, I've learned my lesson about frogstomp
| danielcardoso hi dude. i don't mean any offense but i think banning sounds for "bumping frogstomp'd reviews" was a bit extreme lol. i spoke to him and he told me he didn't know it was a ban worthy thing to do. he didn't mean to 'upset' anyone, and he's learned his lesson so to speak lol. any chance you could reconsider? cheers man :]
| Jots oh yeah. oops, thx tho
| Jots any chance you'd be willing to do one of the user interviews for Archelirion?
| TheSpirit Hahaha, trust me, I have no intentions of treating her wrong!
| Toondude10 new Animals as Leaders, absolutely amazing imo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mst4a7ZEF28
| Snide Hey Atomic, it's Snide! Would you be down to jam my new album? - http://www.sputnikmusic.com/list.php?memberid=1075139
| LibGyps Check out Between the Buried and Me. The guitarist of Orbs is the bass player
| Tunaboy45 don't worry about it man, only till tomorrow anyway
| Tunaboy45 ban seems a bit harsh but whatever you're just doing your job, peace
| Toondude10 that's a shame, it's his best since Addicted imo
| Toondude10 New Dear Hunter and DTP song in one day!? today couldn't get any better
| Toondude10 i think you would dig this band https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UifrckJBjS0
| Stereochrome1 I'm guessing time just sorted it out, I'm not entirely sure. But regardless it worked!
| TalonsOfFire Would it be possible for that news article about the new Opeth song to bed, then I could post one with the real link? Or if you want to imbed it into the current one that'd work too I guess, here it is: /watch?v=LhqijfqecvA
| Stereochrome1 I'm trying to put a smaller one in there but this keeps popping up and I can't do anything - Duplicate entry '224683' for key 'PRIMARY'.
| Stereochrome1 Yeah I'm using jpgs and Not huge like around the same as needed for bandcamp art
| Stereochrome1 I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong on my end but I'm submitting album art for Traveler (MO) - Something Blue and it's just a white square but I see the art on my file
| Toondude10 I just feel like we're pretty much going to hear the same thing over and over again from them with the next few albums, though I'd say that's the biggest issue with P3. For a band that plays a genre considered to be experimental (for some at least) they sure don't experiment that much.
| Toondude10 Yeah Marigold is so good, though the last two minutes could've been cut. I just wish they did more songs like it, I enjoy their more melodic side than their heavier stuff.
| Insurrection Staff stream? I've had the promo for a while and their only condition was not to post reviews before july. guess it's just a staff-contrib thing
| Insurrection Hey man, just wondering if i can post my Periphery review to get the convos going. i figured since most of the album is out and the release date is close, just wanted to get your OK
| Toondude10 I'll definitely say it's not as awful as I thought it would be, there's actual good songs on it unlike the crap they released beforehand.
| Toondude10 you gonna review the new Periphery or are you going to leave it to Ins?
| Stereochrome1 Gotcha thanks, I was wondering what I was doing wrong
| GooGooGajoob Yo, have a listen to Eritherium's third album If You Feel Its Presence. I'm hoping it's up your alley with you catalog of metal reviews.
| hortanz hey thanks a lot, I'll make sure to check it out. I thought All Humans was a thing of the past for some reason. I do miss Fear Before but it's nice to see that Adam is still making music
| Sowing When I make the move to the Philly 'burbs I'll shoot you an email. You'll have to rec me some good bars tho, as I'll be new to the area!
| Calc I think you'd like this. It's like a more adventurous Scale the Summit and travis orbin's beastly self does the drumming. https://instar1.bandcamp.com/album/self-titled
| Toondude10 for a band that plays a subgenre considered to be experimental they don't really experiment much
| Toondude10 new Periphery song, it's sort of better than the last one I guess.
| Toondude10 I call dibs on the first review btw ;-)
| Toondude10 will certainly be bingeing on Dear Hunter tonight. Hope the new album is better than IV.
| Toondude10 that new Dear Hunter song oh my gaaaaaawwwwwwddddd
| Tunaboy45 Same here man I'm loving it, it's such a lean and tight album. I can see why older fans might not like it but as someone who has liked pretty much everything they've done I can safely say they've won me over.
| Toondude10 new Periphery song...zzzzzzzzzzzzzz https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pRHWxtYqwmY
| Toondude10 yeah from what I hear it's going to be similar to that of Addicted, if that's the case then I'm really pumped. Devy is at his best when he's over the top imo.
| smaugman If you haven't listened to early genesis, you should
| DinosaurJones Hey, breh, happy birthday. I can do that on Sputnik.
| smaugman i dont get it, you clearly like rush, why dont u listen to more old prog stuff?
| Toondude10 speaking of which someone already 5'd it
| Toondude10 eh true, I've already made mine anyways. I just hope they deliver something more worth my time.
| Toondude10 well there's going to be a ton of Periphery title jokes that's for sure
| Atari just did some research and I guess it's mike howe (vocalist from the human factor) on the new one. it's been 23 years since he was the vocalist, but he rules holy hell
| Atari well I'm only really familiar with their 80s stuff to be honest. I listened to the human factor the other day based on your recommendation and liked it, but need to give it more spins. but yeah this is up their with some of their best work of the 80s imo. needless to say, I'm going to be exploring some of their more recent releases since I'm digging this new one so much. rating and soundoff pending ;)
| Atari new metal church is pretty good! just a heads up because I know you mentioned you liked them before
| Sowing Cool. People have been awesome about keeping up with it, I'm loving it.
| Sowing hey, jw if you're gonna go a track today - no pressure/rush, but if you can't I have about the next 15 mins I could whip one up
| Toondude10 Don't know if you've heard of this band before but I think you might like it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=esKlUSFx4GM
| ExplosiveOranges Me and some other android users end up getting redirected to some adobe flash virus page every time we try to go on the forums.
| ExplosiveOranges Hey dude, is there something going on with the forums right now?
| TalonsOfFire Just wondering since yea I saw that you had it reserved, and I've always liked your Super Collider one a lot. I guess Doofus covered it pretty well though anyways.
| TalonsOfFire You gonna review Dystopia? That rating makes me a bit sad :/
| MercuryToHell Much appreciated man, Sowing gave me some mega cool feedback yesterday so I won't hold you to obligation, but if there's anything you can throw my way I'm always open ears and I seriously appreciate the offer!
| ExplosiveOranges yo, would you mind if i emailed you in the near future to talk about something?
| DinosaurJones PERHAPS I WILL TAKE YOU UP ON THAT OFFER EVENTUALLY.
| ExplosiveOranges Hey man, good on you for writing that blog post about David Bowie.
| Toondude10 and don't forget to check out Voices From the Fuselage and Good Tiger
| Toondude10 eh fair enough I guess, just thought you'd be interested
| Toondude10 here you go, it's got a killer performance from Daniel Thompkins https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4dDLVk383N0
| Toondude10 remember the vocalist that was on that one TesseracT EP? Well he has his own band now, figured you might be interested: http://www.kerrang.com/37510/good-tiger-stream-new-album-a-head-full-of-moonlight/
| Calc I mean, I'm not entirely sure if you'd like it but I would definitely check.
| Calc its by the ex-guitarist of exotic animal petting zoo and the band he has. I like it too
| Calc http://thepneumatictransit.bandcamp.com/releasessee if/how this grabs you
| Toondude10 here's some more djent for you, supposed to be pretty good from what the average says. https://play.spotify.com/album/1ItAS5PdZ6kmFxeKXMB6aT
| Toondude10 I thought the last two were great as well, but then again I kinda agree with that. I've had 'Here to Mars' stuck in my head lately, probably my favorite song off the album so far.
| Toondude10 It's definitely better than I was expecting it to be, that's for sure
| Toondude10 yeah it's pretty good, the second half especially.
| Toondude10 Since TesseracT disappointed you, might I recommend Northlane's new album to help you feel better? :-) https://play.spotify.com/album/6UMGTmdBYlMDGoXs1Xwhl2
| Toondude10 can't help it when Jon Mess is screaming "we all came here just to fap" lol
| Toondude10 Fair enough, I'm not usually one to bother with lyrics most of the time but ever since the new DGD I've been paying more attention to them.
| Toondude10 I like their poppier side when it works, it's just those lyrics in the first single sound like they came from Nickelback.
| Toondude10 I thought the first single was AWFUL and the second single was decent but they've done way better, and I really like Coheed as well.
| Toondude10 okay, I'm predicting a 2.5 for Coheed, maybe worse but we'll see. The second single was alright though.
| Toondude10 Coheed and Cambria I meant (apparently the shoubox doesn't like the ampersand). I guess it's either me or Arcade doing Trivium then. Can't wait for the new TesseracT though, hopefully the rest will be better than the first single.
| Voivod I agree with you; It's a good start for these guys.
| Voivod Hi man, the Act of Defiance album is streaming here: http://www.metalblade.com/actofdefiance/
| BallsToTheWall I expect my boy Kelvin Benjamin to have even a better year. Better conditioning, less drops, more experience, addition of Funchess, healthy Cam.
| BallsToTheWall Picking OBJ off the waivers after Cruz went down is the best life decision I ever made.
| TalonsOfFire Hey Thompson just wanted to drop this by you, very enjoyable progressive metal that no one's seemed to have heard of: http://www.sputnikmusic.com/review/67887/Mendel-Oblivion/
| ChronicSmiler Totally get you, man. I definitely felt a real sense of passion while listening. And that was pretty impressive pre morning coffee. :)
| ChronicSmiler Thanks for the pos on the review, man. Out of curiosity, what made the album a 5 for you?
| Calc thought you'd be happy about that lol
| Calc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=deOIXlZYbV0
| iswimfast Hey! Just a heads up (and a little bit of begging), but I applied privately to the site today and was just hoping you'd maybe help at least get my name looked at. I know in the past I've failed the popularity contest part of this process, and if you could get me at least spoken about I'd be super, super grateful. Thanks a ton haha.
| Britch2tiger Just a tip for listening to Rishloo, at least for me, you should try listening to their first album (Terras Fames) and work your way up. Eidolon is their concept album (more preferable than the other two) while Feathergun is their more polished album w/ some audible flaws.
| Britch2tiger If you like Orbs, then you may enjoy the hell out of an independent prog rock band from Seattle known as Rishloo. They're pretty good, and they just released another album online on 12/10/14. However, all their music can be found via YouTube.
| Friday13th Hey man, I'm doing an obscure progressive rock tournament list. Seeing as you're one of the few staff into prog, I was wondering if you could help us get it featured. Thanks.
| Ecnalzen Yeah, I'm pretty much in love with it, and I kinda thought they might be a one of a kind thing. I guess I will just have to wait for the new album they said will be out sometime next year for now. Thanks for responding, tho!
| Ecnalzen Do you know of any other bands that vibe on what Thank You Scientist does? Pretty much all of my jazz fusion-y stuff is instrumental, and I'd like to hear more of the vocal side.
| Calc I'm glad you like its pretty good imo
| Calc hey atomic see how this grabs you sometime http://kolchakpunkrock.bandcamp.com/
| elcrawfodor Good point, I guess I've just gotten so used to the .5 intervals that anything in that category I just slap a 4.5 on. In terms of Citadel, it does seem a bit unfair to me to hold it back from a 5 purely based on Portal of I, but I get where you're coming from. Actually, my main problem with the album was the lack of anything as good as "Forget Not" on there, so maybe I agree with you more than I realize.
| elcrawfodor Noticed you gave another 4.9, just curious what does that rating really mean for you? FiveLeaves did that for BTBAM's Colors and it's almost frustrating to see that rating even if you don't think something deserves to be a 5 haha
| AlexTM510 Hey man I think you should check this record out, maybe do a review on it? I think people would dig this pretty hard. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g6fnennF6Ec
| Apoc Hey Thompson, Gil from damascus here. please email me asap. we would like you to do an advance review for our new record. gdmorejon@gmail.com // damascus.nj@gmail.com
| NordicMindset dammit, if it wasn't for you i would have had the highest scoring fantasy performance this week
| Mad. Just sayin again man, that Anubis album is incredible, definitely worth another shot. Started off a similar rating for me then grew to like a 4.7
| Vats I hope you're right but I have a sinking feeling they're content to rest on their laurels now. I thought, having watched the drummer auditions, Marco Minnemann might've been a better choice as drummer cos he might've led them in an interesting direction, judging from the things he's done since then (especially with Guthrie Govan in The Aristocrats and in Steven Wilson's solo project). You're right when you say Mike Mangini was a "safe" choice.
| Vats Hey Thompson, How're you doing? Read your review of Dream Theater's self-titled. I thought this line from your review brilliantly summed up the whole CD: "...the band's relatively formulaic approach to anti-formulaicness". I was just glad they went back to E standard tuning on "Dramatic Turns", haha! Never thought the heavier style they tried to pursue since "Train of Thought" (mostly Portnoy's idea) worked with LaBrie's vocals.

| FearThyEvil Dude, no worries at all. I still haven't done my review either. I just recently got hired somewhere so i've been busy as s***.
| Voivod Hi man, I read your review about Opeth's latest album and I tend to agree, here's a little prog rock gem I was introduced to a while ago, I think this is where prog rock is at - http://agusaband.bandcamp.com/releases
| Mad. Awesome thanks man I'll download and listen ASAP and tell ya what I think
| SgtPepper I'm glad you did cause it was good review. It spoke to me personally just because me and my friends have brought up the same argument in school when we talk about the album (how Opeth seem to have "discarded" everything that made them unique for an outdated and derivative sound). and thanks, but you should take it. mines could take a little longer (so much homework, you know all about that though haha)
| SgtPepper hey tom. just saw you posted your opeth write-up. we pretty much agree (although i enjoyed it 0.6 more than you did lol), but since i already started writing, i was wondering if you didnt mind me adding one too by saturday night? i can wait a longer if you want. im in no hurry. the feature and flag rights are yours obviously since you were first.
